I was inspired by your videos and got my first Bd Aurora one year ago. I got her from a pet shop. She was the tiniest thing there. The employees there told me not to handle her for a month. I did the opposite. From the moment I got her I worked with her. From letting her chill on my shirt. To sleeping on my index finger (that was her fav spot). Every other day I would try something different with her. Now one year later she’s calm and extremely friendly. She doesn’t mind being held at all. But when she’s gets tired of being in your hand she will climb up your shirt and relax on your shoulder. Bath time was the hardest because she didn’t like water at ALL! But now she has no problem with it. You just gotta give it time and have a lot of patience.
@RomulanShip5 жыл бұрын
One thing I picked up on was that the guy who messaged you said he had the dragon 4 days - it's usually a given that you allow any reptile a week to settle down in their enclosure for at least a week with minimal handling. Have some patience, the dragon will come around.

I've been a reptile enthusiast way before it was a thing! Late 1960's early spring searching for snakes sunning and salamanders that didn't to need to live in concrete run off ponds. Anyways have a young lady named Lizzy a Beardie. She was 8 months old when we adopted her, so she's 2 now. She was perfectly fine and social until I became ill and spent a week in the hospital last December away from her. I was not able to interact with her until April of this year, she is the one pet I kept in hopes of not triggering Asthma/COPD again. Many of my family do not share my love of reptiles and I know she went 4 months with no interaction aside of food/water/basic care.. Now, Lizzy is openly aggressive and fearful. Just breaks my heart. I have completely started over with her. Trying to find any and all advice from experienced keepers.

I rescued my bearded dragon almost two months ago (he was full grown, wasn't handled much) and at first the only way he'd let me hold him was to have him lay on my forearm with his head close to my hand and then his legs straddled my arm and his tail was supported that way too. If I tried to hold him with just my hands he would flip out. Now I can do just about anything to him and he's just happy to be getting attention from me lol your videos helped me so much!!
@wall.daisies29524 жыл бұрын
My biggest question is when you're holding them and they try to squirm/run away, should I keep trying to hold him and work with him until he relaxes, or should I put him back in his tank? I want to respect him and his space, but also want to train him to be more relaxed. I'm a little confused about that part.

BEST information ever, just adopted an 8 month old and I've been doing this even before seeing this video but I like your suggestion to let him (when he wants out) to climb to your arm to get away from the water. My beardie tolerates the bath, he only tries to run out of it a couple of times but for the most part just sits there. then I touch all of his body, his legs, feet, chin, stomach so that he sees, "oh this isn't so bad"

My beardie at first was squirmy when I held him he's about 6 months now and he eats outta my hand now and let's me hold him regularly he's become my friend now not just my pet I do everything I can to make sure he lives as long as he can I was scared about everything in the beginning but my guy eats sheds he's alert active doesn't always eat veggies but overall they are pretty simple to tame

My sisters just got bearded dragons and they are so calm and sweet and also little. I got one today that I adopted, his name is Draco and he’s AGGRESSIVE, I can move things in the enclosure on the opposite side but if I get anywhere near him he will open his mouth and hiss, he does bite every time he was handled before so I’m to afraid to pick him up, but I want to give him love!

I brought my dragon 2 days ago, and he was in my hands standing then jumped and crawled on my shoulder. I was in awe but confused because didnt expect him to do it so soon especially due to him being 2-3 months old 🤣❤️. Now he's kinda shy though so I try to let him settle first

My bearded dragon is 6 months now, she’s quite the character! But she’s so skittish. She’s quite confident once she’s in my hands but picking her up is the problem. I’ve mastered the picking up part but she just doesn’t like my hand coming towards her. I’ve tried different ways and I even just tried touching her or just leaving my hand in the viv but she’s just not improving. I feel like I’m just making it worse because a few times she got skittish in my hands and I think I went a bit over board trying to calm her when she was trying to get away from me. I’m gonna back off a bit, I still hand feed her and she’s fine to grab it. She’s licked my finger a few times. I know she knows who I am now and stuff but I just don’t know what else to do to bond with her. I know it’s gonna take time… I have to be patient and practice my handling and approach. She attacks the feeding tongs because she thinks there’s food, she’s a bit of a klutz lol. I love brenny and I just want to give her love and not stress her out.

yes! reptiles like chameleons may be much harder to “tame”, but any handleable reptile is the same. you just have to constantly hold them and give them attention and get them used to it and they’ll be better tempered. you just need to have the time to do it.

my dragon is 7 months old, her name is pepper. She loves to be wrapped up in a soft cloth. So at bath time I wrap her up and I hold her with with one hand in the water and let her soak that way. Than I slowly remove her from the cloth and i use a soft brush while still holding her and i run the brush over her body, than i will wrap her in a soft dry towel and dry her. By the way, she hates baths. but a mom has to do what a mom has to do.. someday Pepper will enjoy her bathes but until than, this is what I have to do.

Also what you want to do is to have your beardie be calm when you handle it and if you want to know a secreit it is that when they are abit tired have them sleep on you and let them be with you when they are sleeping that way they will bond with you quicker it works if you are calm and if you are warm and they are tired then ust put them in your belly,arm on your shirt and let it snuggle with you =)

I handle my beardies daily and make sure they get everything they need every day and it is important to handle them when they are new i usually handled my new beardies when they where given a bath or when i had yummy insects or yummy fruit for them so they recognise that when they are being handled they get treats and gets to be out of their enclosure and i now have 5 well behaved beardies with different personalities but they are all handable and no one bites even strangers as trhey know that biting is a no no =)

@ syleint Between the bearded dragon ( if you go to a pet shop or breeder) and it’s setup I spent about 300 or less. I got my Bd from a pet shop so I spent around 60 for it I think. You have some pet-shops that have setups that comes with some of the things you would need to start you off. You would just need to buy food and the rest of the things you would need. But I can’t give you an exact price. You would have to look around and compare prices. You might find some deals or find somebody who has used enclosures that they are trying to get rid of. Facebook market place has some. I don’t know if this helped but I hope it does.

I just got mine and it was around 500 bucks. I bought a $250 set up 40 gallon tank and already had to put in different bulbs. I had to get a 30" uvb light plus a 150 watt intense basking bulb and under the tank heater. The crickets with cricket food for pumping them with calcium and other vitamins beardies need. You also have to get something they can climb high to get good basking spots. Then a digital laser thermostat and interior thermostat and humidity readers. You also gotta buy some veggies. It's a process

Yeah I have a girl too she really claws me up I even bleed sometimes but she only claws me up when I try to put her back in her terrarium, give her a bath or when I’m not holding her right. And maybe your beardie is a beardie that likes to explore like mine. You can try this: go to a room in your house where she can’t escape make sure there is nothing that could electrocute her and that there is not to much furniture. Tip: take out stuff like carpets because beardies tend to poop when you take them out to explore in my experience. Hope this helped ;)
