Watching this because I'm adopting a baby beardie from a breeder that didn't sell at a reptile shop because he's a bit feisty. It's also going to be my first beardie, but I cant wait to have him. Hopefully he calms down when he gets older, but until then, it should be fun!
@Dragon_Whisperer2 жыл бұрын
Just work with him two or three short intervals everyday and it won't take long at all. You just have to be consistent and make sure it's daily for short little sessions. It's a lot easier when they're small LOL

This was very helpful. I just got mines last Saturday it will be 2 weeks this Saturday & when he opens his mouth I back down but I like how you show her that you’re boss. I am going to try this method tomorrow. I haven’t been able to pick her up because he runs away & open her mouth.
@Dragon_Whisperer2 жыл бұрын
As long as you do that technique two or three times a day for five or 10 minutes at a time, you will train it out of them really quick. You just have to be consistent and work with her everyday. Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel

Thank you! My baby is exactly like Kaos and I had no idea how to work with (him or her). When I first got him he was sooo sweet, after coming home from the vet he was a monster. I was putting my hand in the tank and resting it on the bottom and stayed that way until he closed his mouth. Once he closed his mouth I would take my hand out. I will definitely use your method. My baby is missing part of his tail, I hope there is enough to hold him. I adopted him also.

How is your beardie doing now? I got nervous when you said he was missing part of his tail 😞 sometimes that could be tail rott and ultimately leads to death if untreated
@billyss2k Жыл бұрын
mine is not in that level but he tryies to run every time i go to grab him from the front so he can see me he doesnt mind that much peting him in his beard but he runs very easily should i purseu more interactions with him and how??? because when i put him on me or keeping him in my hand he is calm but the moment i let him on my lap and try to pick him up he runs btw he is like 3- 4 months old he likes being fed by my hand and he doesnt get nervous when i aproach him only when i pickk him up
@Dragon_Whisperer Жыл бұрын
That is just because in the wild one of their biggest predators are birds grabbing them from above. Anything's coming from above triggers their instinct to run. They will get more used to it over time but it's better to try to pick them up by putting your hand underneath their chin and sliding it up their belly. The more interactions the better but approaching from above will often even calls adult dragons to run. It's just a natural instinct. Thank you so much for supporting the channel

I’ve had my baby beardie for 4 weeks. And it started off nice but now. It’s mean open mouth and hissing. I’m trying to work with him. But no luck yet any ideas
@Dragon_Whisperer8 ай бұрын
I have one doing the same exact thing right now. Persistency and consistency is the key and using food to Tong feed and lure him onto your hand or arm is a great way to try to bridge that Gap. Often it can be Territorial and they will not be like that out of the tank but they can be very fast and run at that age so just be careful
@Dragon_Whisperer8 ай бұрын
I will also sometimes Place greens or vegetables they don't like in their mouth when they're openly hissing. That can be a good deterrent as well
@Earth2McKay8 ай бұрын
You probably need to give it more privacy. More climbing space and all around more places to hide. I've only had my beardies get angry when other people or a dog is around for a long time. It gets spooked and uncomfortable. But will quickly calm down and get over it after he feels safe again. It's husbandry plays a major roll in bearded dragons attitudes

Mine is 11 weeks old, Hypo zero. She wont let me hold her, when i do I have to have a light grip on her tail. Mine also nips at me, idk what to do just got her 3 days ago. How long till she warms up and is docile?
@Dragon_Whisperer3 жыл бұрын
If they are born with that attitude then they will always have it unless you came it out of them and really the only way is just to not let them get away with it. Every time they nip it's you or open their mouth and you back away or put them up then it lets them know that that behavior worked and they will continue. You will probably have to take a couple of small bites which don't really hurt at that age but you literally have to show them that biting you and behaving that way is not going to get you to put them down and it's not going to get you to leave them alone. Once you get past that point then all the defensiveness will stop and their whole mindset will change and they will become docile and calm. Also with this more you need to constantly hold them and interact with them at least every other day or they can revert back to this kind of aggressive attitude but the same negative reinforcement and showing them that it will not work will quickly break them right back out of it though. The key is to be consistent and make sure they never think that behavior got them what they wanted. You should try to work with holding them until they have stopped the nipping or biting and then continue to interact with them for longer periods of time after they have stopped this behavior before putting them back in their enclosure. A lot of times they will display this behavior in their enclosures because they feel they're defending their home but will act completely different once you take them out and put them on your chest or on your shoulder.

My baby is super aggressive too 😢I wish she would calm down… Im having a hard time with her
@Dragon_Whisperer2 жыл бұрын
They always do but it definitely requires consistency and working with them for 5 or 10 minutes two or three times a day. If you stay consistent you can actually break this behavior in just three or four weeks most of the time. They are very smart animals and as long as you show them it is not going to get them what they want, they will learn!
@joannehintze2023 жыл бұрын
I'm getting there with the baby. Still when I go into the tank he's still aggressive, mouth open wide! If he had tonsils I'd be able to see them. He will eat worms off my finger and take greens from me. When I hold him he wants to get away but I can calm him a bit, the finger in the mouth works perfectly, he lets me stroke his beard and pet his back, so to me that's progress. When I take him out it's just a short period and he gets a little antsy and I put him back. My daughter got him to climb onto her hand and he stayed there briefly. I tried that as well, as fast as he got on he got right back off. I just wanted to let you know how we are doing.I have a couple of questions, I feed him some worms this morning and then he got back onto his branch. I was not near the tank, I was on the other side of the room, he "waved twice" what does that mean? My other question is about worms. I bought horned worms, he loves them but they grow so fast. What size worm is too big? He bit the horned worm kinda in half and I just got an order of Super worms that are big, he ate three yesterday but I was nervous about the size.
@Dragon_Whisperer3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the update and it sounds like you are getting there with the taming down. The use of food is definitely one of the fastest ways to build trust. You don't really need to worry about how big the superworms are, they kind of eat them like spaghetti noodles and the size is not really an issue. Hornworms do grow fast and as long as the hornworm isn't so big it's scaring the little dragon, they can eat them up to a pretty big size because they're pretty much all soft tissue and nothing that can impact them so if they really want to try to take down the big gigantic fat one and not even eat it all that's fine too LOL Dragons have the ability to store food in the pouch of their beard almost like a stork so there's not a whole lot of chance of them choking. The waving is a sign of submission and Dragons will sometimes do that when they see something bigger in the room or just to show their owners that they are submissive to them. It's actually a good sign and you should try waving back to it next time it does it. Sometimes you can get your dragon to repeat the behavior back and forth with you. It's one of the ways that bearded dragons communicate dominance and submission to each other. It's usually only displayed in females and especially during mating or when they see a male but even males will do it when they are encountered by larger creatures or larger dragons in the wild
