As a farmer and herbicide user I use seed oils to reduce the amount of herbicide needed. The methylated (MSO) product will solubilize the cuticular waxes and enhance the transport of herbicides.

Most consumers do not appreciate how much effort, cost and time it takes to plant, grow, harvest and process so many of the food products we use everyday. Thank you for such an informative video that was enjoyable to follow and gives us a good understanding of how those yellow flowers are made into so many products.

MLB baseball players will use them or used to use them instead of tobacco! It was a thing , back in the day! I remember getting, roasted seeds and peeling them individually! When I was a kid. I can still put a pouch of them in my cheek , and work the shells off , spit the shells out and eat the seed!!😅😂

David and Frito- Lay ( PepsiCo) sell them in snack size in the US. Other companies as well!! You can get them with almost as many flavors as potatoe chips! E bay David !

@far_outlook , maybe read both of my posts! Sun seeds come in as many FLAVORS as potatoe chips. You can Google (David) snack foods and Frito Lay. I was eaten sun seeds probably before your momma and dad got together!

The visual labels are in Russian, and the identical pronunciation of "sunflower seed oil" with a slight hiccup on the accent means the narration is a robot

I really wanted to see how the seeds were shelled. Not all sunflowers are heliotropic I believe.

Harvesting millions of tons of sunflower seeds for oil production is impressive, but what about the environmental impact of such large-scale monoculture farming?

Farmers need different harvesters and sometimes tractors for different plants. Also different storage methods. So it’s easier to grow what grows best in your region and invest in the equipment to plant, maintain, and harvest. Equipment prices necessitate growing as much as possible on owned and leased land to recoup the investment of the seeds, fertilizer, fuel, equipment, and time. A large farm can easily spend 50k for seeds alone. Growing multiple plant species is a risk considering the farmer goes “all in” for their yearly income on his crops.

@@blauer2551 Farmers need specialized harvesters, tractors, and storage methods for different crops. It's more practical to grow what's best suited to their region and invest in the necessary equipment. Due to high costs for seeds, fertilizer, fuel, and machinery, farmers need to maximize their land use to recoup these expenses. With large farms spending up to $50k on seeds alone, diversifying crops can be risky as their annual income depends heavily on their yield.

You're right, large-scale monoculture farming of sunflowers does raise environmental concerns. Excessive water usage, soil erosion, and reduced biodiversity are all potential downsides. Sustainable practices like crop rotation and cover crops can help mitigate these impacts.

That's an important question to ask. But we can also consider the benefits. The pollinators have source of nectar. They are beautiful.

Well lets get down to the nitty gritty!! Oil, i dont know about! So many oils from seeds lose there nutritional value if not processed correctly!! Sunflower seeds when broken down by chemicals, have a few chemicals that if you eat 10 lbs. of them you will experience an acid trip!! ?? 10lbs.😂😅 But your body also needs these chemicals to think clearly. ,, if,, or does the human body need some of these foods to maintain an equal librium?
