Reminds me of Tekken 6 Steve; he was considered to be mid/low tier at the start. But then they changed the hitbox of f,f,2 to hit a bit lower to the ground, and that single change turned him into a top 5 character in that game. lol

THANK YOU. I've been explaining the whole Johnny dash vs Preemptive button interaction to my johnny main friends and why its so annoying to play neutral against johnny, but they just don't get it. If you try to react to dash, you're going to get smoked - its so fast, by the time you reacted with an option, they'll have counter hit you for reacting. You need to preempt in neutral vs Johnny... who's mist finer conveniently gets a pretty good conversion off of counter hit. Debatably, you could react to dash -> grab in time (15+2 frames)... which then gets smoked by dash -> ensenga, which hella hurts this patch with the ensenga damage buffs.

I think the dash changes are fun and make the character feel really slick (Johnny main, I know), so I'd be sad to see them reverted. I'm thinking his MF cancels being more minus might be a good start, so that the situations where the opponent can take action are more pronouncend. Also, raw vault-deal needs to be more negative. That shit is so scrubby.

Meanwhile Johnny already had good neutral, buttons that cover 75% of the screen, good conversion ability and pressure, the only bad thing was the slow dash really Slayer's dash also sucks for mobility (not the crossup function during pressure) but nobody says he's bad

People def overreacted and said that he was real bad back on launch in season 3 and whether that's because everybody expected xrd johnny to come back or if it was actual power creep and small inconsistencies for johnny within strives cast is hard to tell. People knew johnny had strong stuff but he did legitimately need to work for it in order to gain access to it. Arcsys made johnny have actual weaknesses but he had some slip ups like k mist finer never being used when s mist finer was there and his f.s. 5h not converting cleanly. They fixed those issues in the season 3.9 patch and gave him the better forward dash and he seemed to be doing great, there was distaste for the character for sure but it wasn't as bad as it is now. I truly feel like season 4 was the tipping point for most people towards johnny. If you zoned against him before you cant anymore since mf is anti projectile, ensenga got a huge damage buff (40 to 80) which is odd since ensenga was already a good special and the range buff on k mf means that at the range it should be used most characters in the cast cant really punish it cleanly. Why arcsys made a character with actual weaknesses in the start and then overtuned him beyond belief is absolutely mind boggling but it def adds to the rhetoric that Arcsys has huge favoritism problems for character balancing.

Most Strive players never touched any GG so not sure about Xrd expectations. He had some very significant weak points, so yes, he wasn't strong or consistent enough. He keeps doing of his weak spots like breeding susceptible to low profiles so he's not an invincible superman, just very-very good

Fwiw he has a slight issue with dash block but the speed required to make it his problem is so high only a couple characters get to interact with him that way. I always did believe Johnny was an underperformer on launch due to how awful his defense and disadvantage were, but I did believe he would land in mid tier at some point before 3.5 because he is a very high skill ceiling character, and those take time to find their footing after release. He got a ton of crazy buffs that I don't believe he actually needed except for MF having a stronger counterhit value. As a Johnny main though, I honestly cannot complain too much.

Then this tiny patch happened and I didn't wanna play him cuz now he's top tier and that hate is back in force. LK you explained his xrd MF changes but not the dash changes? Okay time for some boomer shit. His dash was 18f too in old games. It was also a FRAME 1-14 LOW CRUSH. It also canceled into actions on f13.... including fd. Which let's you dash again. And mind you his dash had a jump cancel the entire way through. They just added xrd dash took out the low crush AND THE EARLY CANCEL. The fact people still think that vanilla strive dash was okay is beyond me. Especially when slayer comes in right after with crossups dashes lol
