Starting classes mostly just determine starting stats and gear....not a big deal, like most Souls games.

Advanced classes, yes. They are only advanced in the sense that it will be a bit of a harder start for those who didn’t play other souls-like games. Dark Crusader is only available for deluxe preorder from the start, but the base 10 classes are there for everyone

They consider dodge rolling and applying status effects "advanced".

It is unless you're okay with getting one-shotted by having no defense. That's a really strategic play style. It means you actually have to do a bit of reading about how the status affects work and such. Some people don't wanna do all that and definitely don't wanna be able to die in one hit.
