With Hindsight, i don't think the t shirt thing (and it's reason why) was the main reason why we split. it was just a pretext for the inevitable. we did need a break cuz we toured non stop. and by now we'd have a few more albums out, no doubt, if Stiv wouldn't have gone elsewhere. R. I. P. xxx

Just to set the historical record straight, Stiv had the wrong information and the advert on his T-shirt was never an ad looking for a vocalist to replace Stiv in the Lords but was in fact an ad placed by new band Kill City Dragons which included Dave Treguna, Danny Fury, and Steve Von Saint looking for a vocalist.
@evangeline77x8 ай бұрын
That's not true, Dave Tregunna and Brian James have both confirmed that the ad was real. Although Brian James insists that it was Stiv's idea to hire someone and the ad wasn't seeking a permanent replacement but was instead just looking for a singer to fill in for Stiv temporarily on a European mini tour. Billy G. Bang from KCD has confirmed he was the original candidate initially chosen to fill in for Stiv (AFAIK neither Brian James or Dave Tregunna have ever said whether this is true or not, both just say that no one could have replaced Stiv so the idea was scrapped immediately after holding auditions). If that is true than Billy G. Bang is also likely the reason Stiv found out about the ad and auditions, because according to Billy he didn't want to accept without Stiv's blessing and tried to reach him through an unnamed mutual friend. Whether that part is actually true or not though has never been verified by anyone other than Billy.

I was lucky enough to be at this show. 2nd time I'd seen them. Over 30 years and more than a thousand gigs later, this still remains one of the best I've ever seen. There was a strange atmosphere in the crowd after the show. Like everyone was trying to work out if exactly what they'd just seen had really happened. I don't suppose there's a full length version of the show out there?

@@cathsalazar9930 Really? Stiv was a lovely guy but he was also very small, looked perpetually wasted, he was skin and bones, usually stoned on smack, very self-destructive, he had a death wish (unsurprisingly his first band was called Dead Boys, as the documentary film about him that came out 2 years ago...) and had "I'm trouble" written on his forehead in invisible ink (that I could read, nonetheless)... But he knew Latin, he was a gentleman and always very good to me (I was only 19 - 21); he would have been the first to say to you: "De gustibus non disputandum est" (Latin for "Taste is taste"). At gigs he'd often say to audiences: "Dominus vobisscum" (Latin for "May the Lord be with you", emphasizing the "vobis" (with you) and "scum" - which doesn't require any translation... Incidentally, often people who knew Stiv say that we look alike... but don't get any ideas... lol!

On Stiv's T shirt was a copy in felt tip pen of the ad the rest of the band put in Melody Maker for another lead singer without Stiv's knowledge I don't have a better copy of this photo.

@bonezzone7 жыл бұрын
what does the shirt say?!!!!
@jimmyjazz25047 жыл бұрын
Hey Zumi the T Shirt was Stiv's attempt at replicating probably in felt tip pen a copy of the ad placed in an English Music press weekly by the rest of the Lords advertising for a new lead singer unbeknown to Stiv. This situation arose due to Stiv's propensity to cancel gigs/tours because of what the band considered his dubious back problems when the rest of the band wanted to tour and make money sell records etc.The above gig at the Astoria in 1989 was the last show Shiv played with LOTNC. He died a year later in Paris on the 4th June 1990 without speaking to the rest of the band. JJ

@jimmyjazz2504 Жыл бұрын
@@mjh5437 No, although I know a girl singer was considered from those who did audition. I don't think it was a real idea to replace Stiv just the band showing that they had enough of Stiv's excuses not to tour and as it turned out Stiv took the bait and walked, never to return.

Yes.. Stiv had pretty bad cirrhosis of the liver at this point, so he very well may have just been sick.. I don't think he was doing dope anymore though, most people close to him around this time have said he had cleaned up in the final year/2 years of his life.. Dee Dee Ramone (who is obviously not a reliable narrator, so take this with a huge grain of salt) said that when he visited Stiv in Paris during the ill fated Whores of Babylon sessions, that Stiv was completely sober the entire time with the exception of wine he would drink in the evening and get completely plastered off a single glass (a telltale sign of advanced alcoholism/non-functioning liver).. Whether that's true or not obviously I can't say for certain, but it seems from all available information that Stiv was just not a well man at the end of his life.. Also, he vomited pretty regularly, lol. Especially in the Dead Boys and early Lords era, there are tons stories of him just vomiting out of nowhere, onstage, sometimes on people, choking himself until he vomited etc. (bulimia can also be a symptom of chronic alcoholism). So it wasn't an out of the ordinary occurrence.
