I grew up in Kansas City Missouri in a suburb named Gladstone Missouri. I, along with my best girlfriend, when we were old enough after graduation we would just takeoff and go riding to places like Sedalia, Carthage, Kirksville, Black Water, chillicothe…Warrensburg… the little towns around the lake of the Ozark, Osage Beach…. We would just get in the car and go find some places to eat and talk to people and learn about places we never thought about going before graduation. It was really interesting,

Warrensburg is famous for a dog named Old Drum, who was shot and killed by a farmer and there was a trial at the courthouse about it. Today an image of Old Drum sits on the lawn at the courthouse.

Southwest Missouri claims a very rich cultural heritage, with painter Thomas Hart Benton being the best-known of its many artists. Carthage was the hometown of the extraordinary Classic Ragtime composer, James Sylvester Scott (1885-1938), whose radiant piano works I've been performing for many decades. Joplin was home to Percy Wenrich (1880-1952), who also wrote fine rags, but is best remembered for his popular songs such as "Moonlight Bay" and "Put on Your Old Grey Bonnet."

When I was just a little guy, my Dad decided to stay in the same motel featured earlier in your video, right on Rte 66. That night, one heckuva thunderstorm went through the town and I can still remember the fear that storm engendered in me. If anything, my mother was more afraid than I was! Dad slept through the whole thing.

Hi Joe; Yes I also watched Marlin Perkins animal show. I really liked it when I was a kid. And they went to Africa and it was so interesting. And thank you for letting us know about him being from there. I learn so much from your travel videos. Oh and in Joplin the "Barrow gang" was not suspected of being who they were. The cops were totally unprepared. The suspicion was they were bootleggers as the sign there says. So actually the cops went there initially to ask the renters (the "Barrow gang") to stop being so noisy and also to find out for sure what it was all about. It was sort of strange that Bonnie and Clyde being there, the possibility never crossed their minds. Of course communication was a lot less up to date back then.

The First Battle of Bull Run (what it's called up North), was the first "major' battle of the Civil War. The Battle of Carthage had maybe 5,000 total troops, but the First Battle of Bull Run had some 70,000. Hi, just subscribed. I'm resident in the UK, England actually, your videos are so good, really informative. They allow people like myself to have a taste of the United States which would otherwise be impossible, I really enjoy not just the actual tours, but the way you present them too, they're real eye openers when looking at how some towns have degraded, it shows how the lives of people completely change when major changes take place such as a single industry closing down. The abondoned homes, they're a crying shame, hard to believe those were worked for and owned then left to rot because there was simply no other choice, very sad. Anyway, just wanted to let you know how appreciated your efforts are, I'll keep watching them, several times over sometimes, may thanks and take good care, regards, oh, I forgot to mention, on a lighter note, it's funny to see that although some places are not what they once were, there always seems to be a grandioso court building, brilliant.

So I got to see tv in " LIVING COLOR " ! My grandfather died about a year later. But he was able to see tv in color . about three years later the could afford to get a color set in our home . so on this fathers day it means so much ! About 42.000 for a small home in Lamar, MO. I didn't find that exact one. Nice little home though. You found a guy who loves his job, history, and has a heart for the place he works. I love that he was so willing to show you around. $93,000 for the Carthage home.
