My take on this video is, that the filmer needs to interview residents of the area in which they are interviewing, and not just video and give his view points... videos like this only gives a much negative take on the city and the people of it... Allendale is not a dangerous neighborhood, and it's population has decreased due to political mandates, which has caused residents to move to other ares... Allendale and the bottoms are old historical areas, which the government has torned down, for their own financial gain... You need to dorsal see Shreveport and actually interact, to really know about this City...

I’m a resident and was born and raised here and I remember when I was a kid and this city looked nothing like this. Our economy was booming and everyone was making money. We had General Motors, General Electric, liberty glass, shell plants, and a host of other high paying jobs including the casino’s and now our economy is pretty much non existent. I’ve watched this happen and no one is doing anything about it and it hurts to see your city just crumble under bad leadership

They’ve sold all our industries to other countries plus, our laws are so screwed up that lawsuits are rampant against companies for stupid stuff allowing people to win their case which causes business to have to close. Then there’s the taxes on these businesses. Oh boy, that’s a whole story in itself. No one wants a business here. If the crazy taxes don’t get them then the crazy lawsuits will. Change all this and maybe all towns will begin to prosper in Louisiana.

As a resident of the city, it is interesting to see it from an "outsider's" point of view. The development here has taken place away from downtown. I am in southeast Shreveport and it looks nothing like where you were driving. However, some of my family lives a few blocks away from where you were in Allendale. We are getting an Amazon that is built and soon to be up and running. Prayerfully, it will bring more resources to the city. Thanks for providing your point of view. Maybe some of our city leaders can view this and it will motivate them to continue to make changes to the downtown area.

I had been to Shreveport/Bossier City many times to gamble. Also, visited a small car company in the suburbs a few years ago, and it was in a nice area. I had never seen the neighborhood surrounding downtown, though. I was surprised and shocked when I saw it. I had always assumed the gambling made the city prosperous everywhere.

I work there several times a year from Texas and never had a bad experience with anyone. Ran into a few trying to scam me, but the majority are good people. Treat them with respect and they will return it. There was once what appeared to be a gang hanging out near an area where I had to do some work. I asked them if they minded moving just long enough for me to do the work I needed to do at the location next to them. I was spraying some chemicals and did not want any to accidently blow onto them from the wind. They thanked me for looking out for them instead of ignoring them and spraying anyway. I follow the rule of do unto others how I would have them do unto me. If somebody is agravated or not repectful I just leave them alone. Never had a problem. I do pray for the area and on occasion when the Lord moved me to do so prayed for some of those that were in bad situations and helped them the best I could. Now each year they see me and know me better. They wave to me now when I come to work. Shreveport has its problems like all cities do, but the people are good.

There was a shooting there just today at the walmart over on barksdale hwy, i showed up literallyinutes after it happened. We got bloods and crips down here and its one of the first cities to ever be inhabited by blood and crip gangs back in the 90s. My dad had some friends whos cousins were younger than 18yo that were shot in drive bys trying to leave the gang scene.

I have a couple of friends, good decent people...2 different homes, the county (government) seizes them unfairly. Its all about cou try codes. Also, insurance codes if you're still paying on the mortgage. Most places in our cou try have added newer codes to all real-estate. IF a perso. Is just barely scraping by or gets sick, looses their job, then they cant fix, keep up on all the codes. The county begins fining $ 500 for each code violation, every 10 days, plus interst that fine. If it's a fence too close to the public sidewalk, a leaky roof, rotten wood, trees that might fall, degreed in the yard, loud parties, or just not insured they get a fine for each one...every 10 days. Too many loud noisy kisdisturbing neigh orsconstantly or too many animals, also c as n be reasons. 10 days and little money if one has been sick or in surgery, isn't enough time to find handy man and get more money. Itadds up to $20, $30,000 OR MORE WITH SEVERAL CODE FINES EVERY 10 DAYS. THEN THEY CAN LEGALLY SEIZE PEOPLES PROPERTY. THIS IS SO WRONG. THERE mustbeanotherway to do this and help people. You should have gone down Fairfield Avenue and seen the stately historic homes in that area. You were so close to the first Shriner's Hospital for Children in the US, established 1922. Instead you showed us Louisiana Boardwalk and Horseshoe Casino. You ate at Beaujacks when you could have eaten at Herby K's or Fertitta's...both historic and "in the shadow of downtown". You could have mentioned that many people think Municipal Auditorium is haunted. You could have shown the historic cemetery across the street from Municipal Auditorium. I actually can explain the giant dog statue at 10:39 (Shreveport resident here). So that building is an old fire station (hence the dog being a Dalmatian) that was converted into an arts building by two local animators. It's also used to show short films for a film festival we have every October.

He was never caught. His mother was on drugs and had been for quite some time. We reside in Galveston Texas. His sister never kept in touch with the police and the Case. It's a Cold Case Now. I worked in Shreveport for a few weeks this past March as a security installer for an Armored car company. This once bustling rail hub is nothing but a sh*thole these days. Prostitutes & drug dealers roamed the hotels I stayed in. There was the constant sound of police sirens & I felt like I was back in the war zones of my youth. That area that you went in close to downtown is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Shreveport. That was the red light district. Prostitution used to be legal way back in the day. The neighborhoods were segregated. That is called the bottoms.

Thanks for this one. I was just back a month ago for my 50th high school reunion in Bossier City and drove around Shreveport. I lived there well before the casinos came in and nearly the entire Old Bossier was razed for whatever reason (I think it was Red River Chevrolet that purchased a lot of the land). I was dismayed by the blighted areas of old Shreveport. Almost every area dating from the 1920s and early were completely abandoned and decayed. I wandered around the old cemetery and the very small Victorian area 'mansions'. Truly sad. That said, everyone I know there lives far, far away from the blighted areas in calm, serene neighborhoods. My brothers both still live in the area; my middle brother made his fortune by buying up dozens of small houses in Shreveport, fixing them up, and renting them out.

I been complaining about that road for years because I have to use it to bring my trailer to the back of my house. I guess after your video now they are fixing the road. Appreciate it. Shreveport is set to become somewhat of a regional transportation hub with three interstates coming through. In addition to I-20, there is the I-49 extension north to Kansas City and I-69 will come through town. There will be more cross-country traffic to capitalize on.

That I-49 extension should've been completed long ago all the way down to the Texas state line to tie into US 59/I-69. The city of Shreveport lacks the gumption to bulldozed the slums in Allendale for the ROW and the state is too cheap to acquire the ROW from I-20 down to the state line.

I know someone who was born and raised in Shreveport, he is 72 yrs. old white male. He told me terrible things about it, and this was in the 1970's. Their law enforcement/sheriff was downright cruel to non whites and the poor. This man he knew, a high up in the law, also operated a grocery store. He traded cigarettes for taking advantage of young women. There was so much pimping of people done, men, women, black and white. Old houses in the rough part of town were very cheap to rent, there were flop houses where people rented rooms by the day and all sorts of terrible things occurred. Now, in this modern era about to be 2023, Shreveport pays the law that operates the jail system by the amount of people incarcerated. Yet education for youth is about the lowest and worst of any state. So, it pays to encourage criminality there. Also, the highest law enforcement in the land, of which I will not mention but it is part of our national government, uses Shreveport as a base in which to hold stings that net thousands of arrests for vice. They especially enjoy luring people to travel from Texas, the stings are very elaborate and sometimes weeks are taken to convince someone to travel from Texas, in order to arrest in Shreveport because they can compound the charges to interstate violations. I think it is a felony to cross into Louisiana from another state if you go there and are caught in a sting. Shreveport has embraced boat gambling and vice stings as their main source of revenue. I have never set foot in Louisiana, and I plan to never go there because I refuse to support such an atrociously inhumane state that refuses to properly educate it's children with decent schooling.

I debated leaving a comment, but I feel like I must because of my history with Shreveport. Long story short, my single mother moved my brother, sister and I there in 1972 (I was 2yo). We lived in the S. Highlands area til about '82, then moved to the Highlands "historic" area. Throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's Shreveport was a great place to live. Not a very rich city money wise, but rich in many other areas, history, culture, etc. After college, I moved back to S'port and worked there a couple of years until I had had mentally enough with the place and moved to Nashville in '95. By the mid-90's, you could really start to see and feel the decay of a once vibrant city. Many of my high school friends began to move away, primarily to Dallas down the road but several also decided to stay in the general area. While visiting there, I really hope you were able to see some of the other actual lived-in areas of S'port. The further you get from the city core, the city begins to perk up. All in all, my time there long ago was a lot of fun but I won't ever regret getting the hell out of there. The main reasons for leaving were the sheer lack of career options and crime. The corruption of politics in Louisiana make the fed look like angels. There are sh*tholes all over America, but S'port ranks higher because it represents how much a once great, highly rated, vibrant, bustling, small city can turn to sh*t when you have extremely poor local and state government. If you're familiar with the term "white flight", thats not exactly what happened here. It was actually "purchasing power" flight which included MANY background and ethnicities. I have alot of great memories of growing up there, but for many, that's not an place you want to really stick around in by your mid-20's. If you do stay, more power to ya, have fun and be safe.

I lived in Bossier City from 87-01 I was there when the boats first arrived, back then people were worried that crime would increase and from what I've heard and read it has increased. Thanks for the upload

I live within 60 miles of Shreveport and catch the local news. Every day there is at least one murder. It has grown progressively worse. My wife has to go there for post-op cancer treatments. The problem with Shreveport is not guns but the absence of daddies in the homes. Most murders are committed by young men who have no male parental guidance. Being an occasional visiting sperm donor does not make one a daddy. I live in Texarkana, and it seems to be trying to catch up with Shreveport on murders. My daughter has changed her route home from work due to the fact that she was almost in the middle of a gang fight several months ago at a traffic light.

Most houses downtown look like that because of zoning. If that area is re-zoned to be a business area you cannot update or renovate the residential home. You have to either sale it to a business, turn it into a business or let it rot. When they rot there’s not guarantee that the house will be knocked down for a business to be put there. So it essentially turns the area into a grave yard of houses and/or really poor living conditions because you cant fix anything. Resulting in depreciation of property value which eventually leads to the area being deemed “bad or ghetto”…it’s a cycle

If you want to see a really rough area of Shreveport, LA, take I-20 to downtown Shreveport from the airport, then take Milam Street heading SW out of downtown. Follow Milam Street through Ledbetter Heights (aka The Bottoms) until it turns into Sunset Dr. near Cross Lake, then turn left heading south on Jewella Road. When you get to US Hwy. 80, aka Greenwood Road, turn right heading west. Shortly ahead take a left heading south on Broadway Ave. Take Broadway down through one of Shreveport's roughest areas known as Mooretown until you hit Hollywood Ave. and turn left heading east. It will take you eventually to I-49 which you can take north until it intersects I-20W heading back to the airport. You will definitely see some really rough areas on this little tour. I lived in Shreveport from birth until I left for college following high school graduation. I have driven through these areas many times and they were rough as could be back in the 1960s and I'm sure are the same if not worse now. There are some very nice residential areas of the city in South Highlands, Broadmoor, Pierremont, Spring Lake, and out on Cross Lake. Nice developments exist south of the city limits down Ellerbe Road. So, it's a mix of residential areas from poverty stricken areas to the prosperous. Downtown Shreveport has pretty much become just a legal and banking center with few retail business establishments. Criminal activity, particularly gun violence, continues to be a difficult problem for the authorities to handle.

Watching this video now. As a lifetime resident of this city, I know it's from a while ago but I would've loved to give you this advice: the nicer areas of the city are not close to downtown. Also downtown has essentially nothing to do and is basically half empty other than corporate businesses (accounting and lawyer firms and the banks they use). Lots of the city is poor but you definitely went in the worst areas.

I don't blame the leaders of Shreveport for the abandoned houses. What do you want them to do? Go in and clean it all up and rebuild them so the people living there can trash them again? Shreveport native here, lived there for 25 years. As some have pointed out, it's fascinating to see an outsider's perspective of the city looks like. When I brought my husband to the city for the first time he made the same exact comments, and even related it to a town in Mexico that was of the same quality. It's honestly embarrassing to see that the city hasn't changed a bit since I left. Shreveport may have been great in its hayday 50 or so years ago, but as someone who has lived there through a slew of recessions and changes that have made the town look this way, it's been nothing but downhill. Obviously, if you go to places like Highlands or Youree the town would seem more lively and developed, but a lot of people's first and only interactions with cities are their downtowns, and unfortunately, Shreveport/Bossier's downtown areas have been lacking for decades. There are only a handfull of reasons people even end up in Shreveport in the first place, 1. You're born there. 2. You're stationed there by the Barksdale AFB and stay because land is cheap 3. You're there to visit family/friends. 4. You find a job opportunity there that is not offered in a smaller parish. With festivals like the Red River Revel and Mudbug Madness dwindling, residents becoming more frustrated with rising crime rates, rising home prices, no recycling programs, and the job market tanking (as one commenter said, unemployment is one of the highest in the COUNTRY - possibly because a majority of jobs are nepotism based) it's no wonder Shreveport/Bossier looks this way. I've been out of the city for a year now, and every time I tell any of my family in law about the city, they go "Where?" Because the reality of Shreveport is that it's a flyover city. You can talk up and down about the positives of the city but when people's first impression is like this? Who would bother? That's just my two cents. I moved out in mid 2021 and haven't regretted it.

@@ruthathorne7586 I'm not sure what more I can provide other than what I wrote. If you think you'd benefit from being there and/or have a job opportunity, then by all means live there. The only other things I can add is that it'd be safer to live in Bossier but cheaper to live in Shreveport. The area is progressive in some aspects compared to the rest of the state (not counting NOLA) and the people are generally nice if given the proper amount of respect.

We Stopped at IHop jusy off the hiway on the eay to NOLA in June 2018. We took a quick look around of the area from that point of view. The people. Were really nice. We are in kansas...lifelong residents...52 and 63....we are sick of cold winters here. We liked the less wind when we were there. We really want to live in a small town....population 10k or less, not too far from the city but SAFE...with costs comparable to Kansas. We just want to live a quiet life, go to church and take care of our pets and each other.

Shreveport has its problems true enough, but also it’s very historic and rich in history. Fairfield Ave is one of the finest streets in North Louisiana. Not from Shreveport but I lived there for 14 years and it’s a very special place to me because it was where I grew into myself

Also a correction..... you CAN have a casino on land in Louisiana. They can be attached to truck stops, but they can only have slot machines. There are no table games. Even at the race track that is in Bossier.

i lived in shreveport 1971 and 1972, rented a house off linwood avenue and worked at simons saw and steel....my general memories are of a somewhat quiet laid back atmosphere....not much touristy stuff then....mostly locals with a few hippies... left to go to college in california....ah, the good old days...am now a 71 year old living in east texas....

You really didn’t do Shreveport any justice with this video. First you only drive through one area. There many very nice areas in this city but you didn’t bother to take a good look. Shreveport is a very nice town with some awesome schools and parks. But you didn’t bother to drive around a little bit to find them. I will also say you didn’t give Bossier City a fair shake either. There is more to Bossier than Gambling casinos. Do you try to trash every city you visit or was it just Shreveport/Bossier. Sorry about your hotel but there are others in this town that are very nice and that is not Shreveport’s fault but the fault of that hotel chain for not inspecting their properties and doing something about their personnel. Oh and by the way most people who work down town are AT work at 9:30am.

Born and raised here. It was once a really nice Southern city, but you could not pay me to move back here. The once civil culture, Southern hospitality included, has been replaced with a culture of crime and a plethora of undesireable attributes. Once nice neighborhoods are slums, people do not take care of their property, overall the city is filthy, and the city government is incredibly derelict in managing this city. There's nothing here that is attractive to a business looking for a good place to relocate. The schools are horrendous! Per the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate: "Shreveport 41.07 homicides per 100,000 people Shreveport had 74 homicides in 2023, a more than 37% jump over 2022 and one of the highest totals in the city's recorded history." Personal experience, property theft, violence, dangerous streets, and crime going all the way up to my grandmother being raped. I've traveled all over the USA, and lived in different parts of the country. Now I go back only for funerals. Shreveport continues to crumble and shows no signs of ever being restored to what it was decades ago. It's really pathetic.

I was born and raised in Shreveport, you actually drove down my childhood street, but you were on the end where the homes have gone downhill due to younger generations not taking care of them. I live in Fort Worth, TX now and occasionally go visit family. I am astonished at how run down those areas you drove thru have become. I remember when they were all thriving areas/neighborhoods/businesses, I just turned 44 this year, and its just jaw dropping to see how many homes/businesses to see no longer standing. The roads definitely haven't been touched since i was a kid(ages 6-10yrs old). Everything has moved into south Shreveport.

I moved to another city in Louisiana 3.5 hours away just bcuz I wanted fresh start. A little deeper South, loving it . Please pray for Shreveport, I still have family there. I really hope you had the chance to actually view Shreveport instead of these areas in the video that are basically non existent to people that live here. Besides downtown (which isn’t really a place to be) and the boardwalk which is technically bossier and not Shreveport, all other areas are places I haven’t seen and would never drive through. Basically that’s all just the poor of the poor portion of the city and there’s much more south Shreveport that is much nicer. Definitely sad to see that portion of our city as it is completely run down. Either way, just hope outside of the video you had the chance to look at nicer areas here

When in Shreveport its best to stay at the hotel at Cesar's Horseshoe casino,it's relatively cheap, but very well kept and very clean. You have 24 hr. security and an enclosed parking garage. You dont have a fridge, microwave or a coffee pot in your rooms as they want you to use the services on site, but I highly recommend it even if you're not a gambler.

I have lived all of my 51 years in Shreveport. You showed me places I have never seen. When growing up in a city such as ours, you learn to navigate. It is a crime-ridden city. It was safer when I was young. I love my city. but parts of it have turned into an urban wasteland. It is hard to see these blighted places. When I saw this I thought there are kids who have to ENDURE living there.

Shreveport is no different than any other city in America. There are bad areas as well as very nice areas. There is growth and decline, drugs and violence just like anywhere else. Also you can't just jump off the highway turn a few corners and assume this is what you get. I lived here from birth until 2019 and now I live in Georgia I've traveled and have seen the same everywhere. Minimum wage is still $7.25 but a decent home to rent would be nothing less than $1,000 a month. That's crazy!

At 9:30-10am, most of the people were at work. You don’t see a lot of cars, because many of them use parking garages. Maybe research an area before going to them? Not a lot of apartments in downtown, as it is mostly businesses. Those houses on, “pillars” are called pier and beam. The long, narrow houses are called, “shotgun” houses, just like many in New Orleans.

I was born and raised in Shreveport and the downtown area especially has gone down hill. Sleep inn has never been that great better of in a Holiday Inn or Best Western or somewhere along those lines. Y'all should checkout Natchitoches Louisiana sometime at try a restaurant called Lasyone's it's where the Natchitoches meat pie originated. There's decent hotels right off I-49 on highway 6 near Natchitoches as well.

I was at Barksdale AFB there in Shreveport back in the early 80s. They had a downtown bar district that was always busy on weekend nights. Also Bosier City strip with alot of clubs with dancers but at the time was not topless.

I have lived in Shreveport all my life. There is not much to offer and there is so much despair, not much hope. Hospitals and funeral homes probably get most peoples money and if they don't the police will. They seam to pray on the poor with high fines for tickets. Casino's are closing. You get stabbed in the grocery store parking lot. I can't believe I am still here.

In my opinion you intentionally missed shining areas within the distressed area surrounding downtown Shreveport. As you drove down Milam Street going west at Hope Street next to the distressed Pete Harris Cafe, You failed to show the revitalization and restoration of properties there on the 700 block of Hope Street. They are quite visible. Maybe you should redo your assessment and highlight what is good and working. I hope your assessment of other areas is not so biased. There are people on the ground working hard here to decrease your fear....😨
