that completly 180'd my perception of the Vampire games we played back in the 90''s, thanks John. Kudos

The new edition (v5) is really great at putting Humanity back front and center, and the predator types help reinforce the hunting themes while hunger dice are a better version of blood pool. In short, it focuses on the bottom half of the sheet and does a great job of it!

So in the 90's, I played this game with more girls than any other game. This was the way the nerdy young RPGRelicHunter could hang out with girls who loved the idea of vampires even before twilight. This was an important game for me in my social development phase.

"Superhero with fangs" - exactly my understanding of how many people played the game. And I never understood why in this case not just play superhero genre.

My general rule when I (rarely) play Vampire is: you know you have power when you don't need to use it. Think about it for a minute. Sure there are tons of powers and tools that PCs and NPCs can use to achieve their goals with various levels of social grace. But the real kicker is when another character simply do something for you because he/she knows that you have MANY ways to force him anyway. That's when you know you're at top of the food chain. Unfortunately, most people play Vampire looking at their character sheet, counting dots more than anything else.

Bravo! I'm sad however at the thought that you're almost done. I enjoy these episodes immensely.

Nice perspective on the Vampire franchise, basically it became D&D dressed in Black with cigars and supercombos. A poor destiny to such a good premisse. Special like for remembering Humanity is the base of the game.

I really like this game. I don't get to play very often because my friends don't like the theme. I get that and have accepted it. It's fun to watch though with all the different groups streaming the game on line though. Additionally, I'm very happy that Dave and people like him exist. Thank you for telling us about him.

Very well put. I see that V5 tried to put some of this back front and center, and a lot of fans railed against it. I love Walker, I wish some of my players would try playing this sort of character.

The strange thing about VTM is that it works. It shows exactly what would happen if the predatory nature came to the forefront. We wouldn't struggle over losing humanity, we would lean into the power fixation. One of the best things an ST ever told me when I was playing VTM was that my character had more "humanity" than I did and that is why certain actions they were performing should have more of an effect on them.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for VTM and now I remember why. Love the series, John - you always have wisdom to share on games that I started to take for granted. Guess that degree was good for something after all. ;)

I always wanted to play Vampire the way you described, but I was really put off by other players I've met. Seemed more like a game of fetishists with superpowers.

Walker was legit. I did not want him to find Golconda for a lot of reasons. Yes, I wanted to keep him around for his talents, which were many. But also, I didn't want to lose a friend in either the case that he found it or that the Tower found out he was looking for it.

That is interesting, I am thinking of transfering Vampire into the Cortex Prime system, So, instead of a focus on the top of the character sheet, I can actually place, humanity, blood, and by looking at this I am thinking adding a hunger mechanic to focus on the system of Vampire need for hunting which is both physical and psycholocgical. I was thinking about not having clans and having types. So when you become a vampire everything is based on blood, meaning no attributes, so to use strength you use blood, to move you use blood, in a way your blood is everything and your type determines how much blood you use to use the attributes.

You have been having some Bard (the guy from BardicBroadcasts) moments lately, haven't you, John? :D (e.g.: 3:08) Thanks for this video. I did not know that about the Aristotelian virtues! Very interesting! Vampire the Masquerade is a beautiful game, despite how players ended up playing it. I'd like to see you do a comparison (if possible!) of V1 (or 2) and V5.

So if a game should have a mechanic for whats it about then what horror mechanic does call of cthulhu have?

Sanity
