I believe half of what we believe about the lore is because the devs reused assets to make other assets. But it makes it more fun to guess
@Urkinorobitch
@Urkinorobitch Жыл бұрын
Each creature is hand drawn into concept art and added as a single asset, they didn't purchase any of the assets from an engine library they created them all. The lore was a secondary aspect to the development but they are not botching it either. :P

@@Urkinorobitchi wasn't implying they bought or stole anything. I am referring to legacy stuff getting reworked. You are agreeing with me saying they didn't care about lore. It's so loose we make our own cannon.

You should do a theory on the "behemoth", the large background creature you cant actually interact with. (the file is in the BackgroundCreatures folder)

Confirmed by devs - Ancients are native to Europa.

The thing at the center is not. The eye of Europa is an IMPACT CRATER. Whatever Jove is, it came from the stars, and somehow caused the collapse of ancients' civilization.

This reminds me of Roadside Picnic, Aliens stopped by earth and left for some reason we cannot understand and left a zone where physics don't work and there's a bunch of artifacts that are just the leftover trash of object they used but we do not understand. Maybe that's the vibe devs are going for... I'm always disappointed when fiction explains alien technology... like the reason why it's alien is we can't explain it. :P

People want to understand mystery. When you figure it out it's no longer fun. The best lore is vague like barotrauma. There is no answer. So we can forever speculate.

they were explorers of EUROPA basically humanity came to the same conclusions the ancients did in terms of science,jove is like a PIN betwen universes but for that portal he uses a LOT of power ,enough to make europa barren Jove tried MULTIPLE TIMES to get more followers without the ancients openly fighting it jove was free to do WHATEVER he wanted and thus trough excessive worship their civilization collapsed (cuz you also need to reproduce to maintain it ) and those who were left were left alive by the song of jove(no need for food drink or what not) the second the song ended those ancients were free (who knows MAYBE they can repopulate but i HIGHLY DOUBT IT since you need a LOT of genetic diversity to prevent rampant inbreeding)
@mariuscatalin5982

also the voice said "the stars are lost to US" meaning he accepted the fact that his species missed that window now EVEN IF they somehow manage to repopulate humans are already WELL established

@@Lotus_God depends how old they were I like to hope that at least they had a bit of time to enjoy life before it ended Or who knows maybe they did manage to live on the jupiter base (the entire thing is on jupiter) With enough attempts and "selective breeding" (oofing any defective offspring) They COULD have managed to repopulate But they are pretty much stuck there even if they did
@Lotus_God

@@mariuscatalin5982 True, they could've probably but i think the numbers are in tens so I'm not sure, their mind most likely have also deteriorated and have probably forgot their technology or basic skills to operate and repair the facilities and equipments they had, truly sad.

I wonder why the ancients did go for Europa instead of Earth. We have less radiation. Maybe the ancients arent interstellar at all and stem from Mars when it was habitable. Maybe they were wiped out by whatever made the Earth go Silent Millions of Years ago. And Maybe just maybe Jupiter protected life on Europe, shielding it.

Aside from a gameplay mechanic necessity. Portal just sucked enought water into localised gravity bubble inside Jovian eye. Whith storms rageging outside and bubble of water and machinery being inside.

at the end where you point out the crawlers being the ancients It clicked in my brain that they're also the only species (besides humans) that get husked, so maybe that also supports your theory if the argument can be made about husk parasytes only infected certain creatures based on how developed their brain or body is
