Fun fact: If you attempt to shoot the Lutece twins in the Blue Ribbon Restaurant, not only will you always miss, even at point blank range, but the Luteces will make comments about it. So if you shoot Rosalind, she'll say "Missed!", "Missed again...", "Best four out of five?", and more little quips.

Just beat the game and was hella confused. Watched this video and it explained it all perfectly. Now im really angry at the dumb plot but story aside the visuals and gameplay where fucking amazing. But this video left out a bunch of interesting details that make this story really cool. A second playthough is much needed

For all the idiots out there the ending is literal, it isn't "deep" nor is it suppose to mean anything. What happens in the end is literally what happens, you just have to collect every single recording, listen to all of them, and pay attention the entire game to understand it. Everything is explained, its just difficult to understand largely because all this exposition comes from Elizabeth or the Lutece's who explain everything from their perspective, which unless your at least tangently familiar the concept of parallel universes the player will not understand. That said this exposition doesn't come at you all at once, for example where Elizabeth's powers come from is explained in the tower you find her, just the answer makes no sense until the ending where you get the full story. Infinite is full of shit like that and it can take multiples playthroughs to understand it. I've yet to see someone complain about the ending who didn't voice a complaint that wasn't explained in a recording.
@Karmicy
@Karmicy 10 жыл бұрын
Would you lend me a hand seeing as you understand it. How does killing one Booker make a difference yet you'd have to kill a billion Comstocks?
@MrMoldyMurder
@MrMoldyMurder 10 жыл бұрын
Karmicy Well,What is supposed to have happened is that Booker makes a decision at one point in his life which is to get baptized,this either makes Comstock if he accepts it,or booker if he doesn't.Therefore if he accepts it and and elizabeth kills him it's supposed to be that all those that have accepted it die,therefor all Comstocks die,but Booker still exists.There are some alot more in-depth explanations on the internet if you want to read more about it.
@Karmicy
@Karmicy 10 жыл бұрын
Moldy Thanks still doesn't make any sense to me I read them and all say the same sort of stuff. At the end of the day it's just a video game, it doesn't have to make sense.
@moraneisland
@moraneisland 10 жыл бұрын
Karmicy You don't kill your Booker. The last thing you do is erase the events of the game from ever having happened. Booker drowned in the middle of his baptism. There never was a Comstock, there never was a Columbia. The only reason one Comstock is still around in Burial at Sea is because he ran off to a timeline where he didn't exist to begin with. However because of the nature of parallel universes it's not like pre-baptism Booker was the only Booker. There are Bookers that never went to the baptism. There are Bookers that died at Wounded Knee. If it could have happened it happened, that's how parallel universes work. That's why there is a post credits scene, not having one wouldn't have made sense.
@Karmicy
@Karmicy 10 жыл бұрын
moraneisland Yes so what you're saying is there are still Bookers and Comstocks? Elizabeth said there are billions of Comstocks and Bookers out there. There must be a Booker with pink hair who accepted the baptism, a female Booker who accepted the baptism, a freaking unicorn Booker who accepted the baptism so killing one still doesn't really make all that much sense to me. But it's not supposed to make sense just be an ending to a story. I pretty good one at that.

Why did Fontaine put Jack on that plane? How did Fontaine get that package to you in the first place? Why was it so essential Jack be moved to the surface for the duration of the war? Where did Jack go while he was on the surface? Did no one up there notice he was aging 5 times faster than everyone else? Dude I loved Bioshock but come on. Icing on the cake, a lot of this was eventually explained in Infinite, even the elements that otherwise would have required pure magic like knowing when and where he was going to be despite having no way to actually keep track of him.

moraneisland For people still wondering, Fontaine put Jack on the plane in order to make it seem like he was killing all those people to save himself, but is actually doing Fontaine's biding. Jack had to be moved to the surface because Ryan could have used him. That's all I can answer. Look at the 2 episodes for BI.

Comstock is an alternate version of Booker. In one timeline, Booker was baptized and turned into the fanatical Comstock, and in the other, he rejected it and stayed as Booker. Elizabeth's tearing abilities stem from the finger she left behind via portal cut when Comstock was taking her to his own universe.

Which also brings up an interesting point, that in some places Booker never even was at the baptism because of earlier variables and constants. Bookers first constant is his mother and only from the womb he gets the first constants. In some realities he never was borned because he probably died inside the womb but other he did not and from there on variables springs forth from different constants all the time. We getting to see such a small portion of what might be.

The thing is,that Booker at the crossroads between Comstock and DeWitt is the initial reactant,with two alternate universes initially created at him either rejecting or accepting. However,when neither decision is chosen,the prime was altered,thus eliminating all possibilities of another universe akin to DeWitt 's or Comstock's,changing the constants,and thus the variables. What Booker was before didn't matter. It was that particular decision that would leave the seeds.
@Ozymoron

Actually if you remember in one of the flashbacks the man Lutece brings Booker to the universe that Comstock is in and that when the Luteces say that he is making new memories from old ones so Booker is in Comstock's universe insteadof his own.

The multiple Elizabeths in that ending scene are supposed to indicate that this is a focal point, "killing" Comstock here prevents him from existing in every universe where Booker made the choice to become him. Elizabeth actually says as much in-game. I understand why you might think otherwise, but there are obvious technical difficulties with rendering an infinite number of Elizabeths(!) to show this visually, hence the verbal explanation we get instead.
@dashausman
@dashausman 11 жыл бұрын
I thought how they explained it (the game) was that the multiple universes spawn from core points where someone has to make a decision. Every person spawns at least one new multiverse when they make a decision. So Booker already had made millions of them prior to the baptism, but at the end of the game, Booker was drowned in the very first universe that had spawned all the other multiverses FROM THAT POINT. The after credit reel supports this as he never goes to the baptism, and has Anna Dewitt.
@MrFlyingLamma
@MrFlyingLamma 11 жыл бұрын
To add to this, it's explained in-game that you simply cannot "kill" someone that had access to trans-dimentional portals. Ex: Booker killed Comstock, but he was alive after that instance. Comstock killed Lady Comstock, but she came back to life. Finally, Chen Lin was killed in prison, but he was alive in another universe.

At the end, Elizabeth has complete access to all timelines. The reason her actions need not create an alternate timeline is that she has control equally over any and all timelines, allowing her actions to have multi-universal repercussions. Elizabeth killed Comstock at his baptism; his roots, the origin of all Comstock timelines. Elizabeth turned a variable (DeWitt/Comstock) into a constant (DeWitt only)

So many details were omitted, so I'll try to explain: 1. Elizabeth can open tears because her finger was trapped in another dimension 2. Booker is Comstock, because in one universe he accepted the baptism and in another he didn't. This is why killing him before the baptism prevented Comstock from possibly existing. 3. Booker did not live in the same universe as Comstock, therefore in Booker's original universe Columbia didn't exist. This is why he once said that he had never heard of the city.
@725shadowlord

You misunderstood the ending. The thing to remember in the story is a key line given by Robert. "Constants and Variables." In the test of the coin toss the coin always lands heads. So Robert infers that the coin will always land heads. No matter which reality it is in. This is the same as the baptism. The baptism always happens at the same time to the same person that is Booker. So no matter what reality that is a constant. What he does from there is where we get the variables.
@AATTRRIIXX

And at the end of the credits, with Booker waking up and enters Anna's room, which I believe is another timeline where Comstock never existed, because the Booker in the other timeline died, and there is Comstock to go back in time to steal Anna from Booker and therefore Booker still has Anna. If you knew this that's good and if not MIND BLOWN.

The solution to that is already in the story as well, although it's implied. We're not dealing with straight time travel here due to the multiverse component, or a world where the past exists in an unalterable state. Due to an event explained in-game, the Luteces exist outside of normal space-time. This allows them to set in motion changes which would otherwise lead to a paradox. They only required one Booker to complete their task, and (as stated by Robert) he is subjected to something similar.
@UlfMTG
@UlfMTG 11 жыл бұрын
It's much simpler than that. The baptism is the constant, it will always happen to Booker. But since accepting the baptism generates a paradox (DeWitt killed -> No Comstock -> No time-dimesion traveling Elizabeth -> No one kills DeWitt), the universe erases that option. The infinite number of Bookers in the universe will now only choose to NOT go through with the baptism, and they will go into depression, and gambling, and alcoholism, but maybe in one universe he gets some therapy and is happy

The Lutece Twins died during an experiment on tears, making them stuck between the worlds. They then decided to undo all of it by turning on Comstock and bringing Booker to Columbia, hoping that killing Comstock and resetting the timeline would bring them back.
@blackore64
@blackore64 11 жыл бұрын
The ending didn't make sense by that there are multiple versions of columbia. The one where game begins, the one where vox takes over and the one where elizabeth is old and others, where you bring things with tear with multiple versions of columbia there are multiple Comstocks. I removed one Columbia, but there are multiple ones still existing.
@1TitanButtons
@1TitanButtons 11 жыл бұрын
I think because Comstock looked through the tears to the future and saw Columbia taking over the world but only with older Elizebeth in charge. So he went and got her to ensure that would be the future that occured.
@725shadowlord
@725shadowlord 11 жыл бұрын
Yes, and an even deeper meaning as to the whole purpose of the Bioshock Infinite game. I theorize that the point of the "Constants and Variables" in the series plot stretches further than that of Bioshock Infinite. The point of Elizabeth bringing you to Rapture is for herself to confirm the theory. In both games the place of wonder is reached through the lighthouse. This is the constant. The variable that stopped Booker from ever having to deal with Colombia is the same one that started rapture.

Actually it is said by rosalind lutece in a voxophone that she thinks that the reason why elizabeth has her powers is because of the fact that her finger is still in booker's timeline, and since it is still there her physical form is split through multiple timelines, and it allowed her to manipulate tears between realities.

The thing about multiverses is that, yes, what you say is a possibility. Booker could indeed have tied his shoelaces the day before the baptism and thought: "Damn those shoelaces! I wish I was a prophet and lived in a flying city." It all hinges on the idea of points of divergence, i.e. the moments when life-changing choices are made (which implies that most other choices are arbitrary) - Only in the reality where he chose to get baptized then and there was a chance that he goes through with it.

Interesting point here, Comstock was drowned in a baptism chamber, and Booker was drowned through baptism too. This might be a connection to the idea that baptism is supposed to "wipes away sins", and that booker's future sins would never exist after his baptism/death. ayyyy

They both got the same age, Comstock looked into the future with a machine made by the lutece twins, for some reason that made him age quickly though. The " Old Booker " you call is Comstock. And you can't kill the twins, they aren't able to die, they can be where ever they want to and do whatever they want to. They didn't create the columbia weapons, and when they did kidnap elizabeth they only listened to Comstock, he wanted the child because he wasn't able to get one.
@RafaelCDet
@RafaelCDet 11 жыл бұрын
When the Luteces used the machine, it exploded, causing Robert and Rosalind to be scattered across time and space. When they managed to recover consciousness and physical form, they discovered they now could be anywhere at anytime. Basically, they existed in past, present and future, everywhere, at the same time. So, if Booker can't kill them, as he would have to kill them in the past, present and future at the same time.

Here's a simple and quick explanation of JUST the ENDING: There were TWO Dimensions of Booker present in the story: Booker A- The One that DID the Baptism and became Zachary Comstock. Booker B- The One who did NOT do the Baptism and became..."Las Vegas" Booker. In the end, Elizabeth knows that Comstock will always live if she doesn't shut down the Dimension where he was "born" so she kills "Booker A", ending his Dimension and all of Columbia. But the Dimension of "Booker B" survives.
