Transcript:
The universe, once home to billions of stars, has been under attack for thousands of years by the vicious shadow creatures known as the Varelsi. One by one, they have extinguished stars casting much of the universe in darkness.
To save the universe, the Empress Lenore of Planet Jenner, united the remaining factions. Their efforts were valiant but stars continued to fall to the Varelsi. Seeing no other way to save his people, Lothar Rendain, the Central Commander of the Jennerit Army, betrayed his empress and allied with the Varelsi, even darkening the Jenner Throneworld and everyone on it. As the alliance against the Varelsi crumbled, many stars fell until Solus became the last remaining star in the universe.
Lothar now brings the battle to the Solus system, claiming planet Tempest as the Homeward of his new Jennerit Imperium. You must unite the remaining factions: The ancient naturalist order of the Eldrids; the warriors of the lost planets, the United Peacekeeping Republics; the cybernetic weapons manufacturers of the Last Light Consortium; the Jennerit rebels opposed to Rendain's betrayal; and even the free-thinking Rogues from the Detritus Rings. If they can keep from fighting amongst themselves, you'll fight the Varelsi threat with each faction's finest warriors, their Battleborn.

I think you'd get a very interesting and possibly media changing study out of just how Battleborn has managed to seem so uninteresting, through no fault of it's own either. If I remember rightly Battleborn first showed up years ago as a fantasy game, and I was really hyped for it, but since then it's seemed so dull and uninteresting. I don't even know what type of game it is any more. What happened to it?

We got more lore out of this than the actual campaign..... hell I got more lore from the item menu by constantly clicking the locked item menu while level 2 (it unlocks level 3) and pissing off the Ai. She went on a 8 minute rant about how there used to be a mother Ai and the fact that all existing Ai are batshit insane basically because she cut them off and just up and vanished.Granted she was trying to reinforce the fact she was crazy enough to airlock me but still.

Honestly, I've had alot of fun with Battleborn and really those who try and compare this game to Overwatch are idiots. Both games share nothing in terms of gameplay and I'm going to get Overwatch next week while still playing Battleborn.

Exactly. overwatch is a low time to kill, more traditional fps, almost to the point of being a TF2 clone. Battleborn is a tower defense/MOBA/fps hybrid. Coming from a fps background, overwatch is a very easy game to play, and its short match time lends itself to very casual play. Battleborn requires more thought in each engagement, and the longer matches lend itself more to dedicated players. they are radically different games, and I love both of them.

It's like this game is psychically emanating "shit game for twats". From the very first trailer I saw it set my lemon alarm bells off and I didn't even know why. I'm glad to see the comments section felt the same thing I did. It's like a tiny primordial part of my brain flies into a rage whenever their awful commercials are played, and what concerns me the most is how efficient it is at triggering that reaction without me being aware of how. Like it's legitimately terrifying to me that there's some kind of unconscious stimuli that can send someone into a rage. It's kinda like Smite, but with new original gamemodes. There's a hero only "conquest" Battlefield style mode with 3 capture points, "Meltdown" where you get minion waves to sacrifice themselves by escorting them to their grinders and score points and Incursion, which is more like traditional MOBA, but there's only 1 lane and the towers are giant spider tanks instead.

+Petsinwinter Overwatch was a good bit of fun playing with a group of friends, but battleborn felt like a destiny-borderlands hell spawn that was dunked in moba juice. Overwatch has its problems, sure, but I felt more engaged with the gameplay overall. Also, melee characters are laughable on battleborn, it is clear the game favors ranged combat above all.

+Lucas farach-colton Well, the Varelsi use a device called the Heliophage which harvests the star, and given the shards that drop it seems to be a fuel source, not to mention that the Varelsi don't rely on sunlight to live so they get fuel without losing anything.

Saransh Khanna Varelsi are basically from a tear in space-time though, so they don't care about gravity. Lucas farach-colton Well first it takes time for the Heliphage to prepare. Second, a harvester tool from another dimension is not the same as a doomsday device.

APC Urcle Not really no, one is an online pvp FPS. The other is a story based shooter with some light MOBA elements. Besides the basic "hero shooter" genre they both seem to fall into (which in itself is just a new take on character classes) the games are entirely different. Battleborn is very much so the same kind of game as Borderlands with the RPG-lite elements taken out, and some basic MOBA modes put into a multiplayer mode. Overwatch is like Team Fortress, its a PVP shooter.

Or recognize that both games bring different things to the table and are nothing alike, and to compare them would be like comparing a Ford Focus to a monster truck. Love class based shooters like Team Fortress 2? Get Overwatch. MOBAs like DOTA and Super Monday Night Combat more your thing? Get Battleborn. Like both? Get both! Both are really good (although I like Battleborn better).
