Lorelai Gives Birth to Rory

In the episode Dear Emily And Richard, Rory's father Christopher becomes a dad for the second time when his fiance gives birth to a daughter, the episode gos back with and shows how Lorelai coped with the birth of Rory

Thomas Storff this is how I picture it. It could go 7 seasons like the original show. Seasons 1-4 could be the first 4 years (1 year each season) while seasons 5-7 could have 2 years each (S5 = year 5 & 6 in each half, S6 = year 7 & 8, S7 = year 9 & 10). Why like that you ask? Cause in a deleted scene from season 3 of the original Lorelei & Rory take a final walk through the now closed independence inn and we see a young Lorelei & Rory 4 times. Lorelei mentions that they lived at the independence inn for 10 years. The show could start off with OG Lorelei & Rory (same actresses with some good tech to de-age them to how they looked in seasons 1 of the original) they’re getting ready for their day, Lorelei for work and Rory for school, when Lorelei sees a letter in the mail from Chilton. Flashback to the day Lorelei left her home. We’re at the independence inn and we see Mia doing her boss thing, checking on how the guests are enjoying their time, and checking with her employees and see 16 year old Lorelei Gilmore. She could have Rory bundled up cause maybe it’s cold or it’s raining. Lorelei asks for a job saying the same thing Mia had quoted back in season 2 and Mia is indulging her very politely and hear that little baby cry. Mia sees that Rory is bundled up to be kept warm (FYI not too tight. She can breath very fine.) Mia gets all caring and has Lorelei sit down and has an employee fetch her a towel and maybe some food and coffee, which prolly starts Lorelei’s coffee addiction lol. Lorelei tells Mia everything and Mia takes pity. She hires and gives her a place to stay. And it’s off to the races. Season 1 we can see all the conflict Lorelei faces as Mia had said the maids didn’t like Lorelei at first. And we can follow their journey. We see the first meeting of Lane and how Lorelei became a confidant for Lane by sneaking her food Mrs. Kim wouldn’t allow, see Rory become loved by the folks in Stars Hollow, maybe the first meeting between young Lorelei & young Luke, Rory showing how smart she is and that she wants to go to Harvard. Final season is of course their last 2 years living at the independence inn with Lorelei having enough money to put a payment on that famous house we all love but has trouble but Mia steps in to help with payment giving Lorelei no obligation to pay her back making it a gift and a reward for being her own person and not relying on her Gilmore name to get ahead and promotes her to the manager position. Final scenes have Lorelei & Rory moving their stuff into the house showing us how it looked before Luke’s renovations in season 6 of the original and they have their first piece of mail (a cliché that’s been used in tv shows when someone moves into a new place. It happened with Lane in season 4 of the og show when she moved in with Zack & Brian) and Lorelei smiles and we flash forward to OG Lorelei with that Chilton letter and Rory as she leaves the house “Bye mom I’ll see you later” to which she replies “Ok sweetie be careful.” Lorelei looks back at the letter and smiles cause everything has turned out ok. Rory earned her spot instead of having her spot bought or having Lorelei sleep with whoever (of Cou she was joking about that) and rejoices at how it has been. Now she could open it but than it defeats the purpose of what happened on season 1 episode 1 of the OG show when Lorelei ran to Sookie with the open letter and a bag with how Rory’s uniform will look at Chilton. Lorelei goes to open and stops and says “later” cause she feels that it’s good. She grabs her coat and heads to Luke’s for some coffee so she can head off to work. Fade to black it’s over. We know what follows. Cue that ending music. That’s how I see it.

This scene was heartbreaking. Lorelei’s parents weren’t supportive and Chris wasn’t there. For anybody’s who’s given birth, that must be so freaking lonely not to have somebody by your side to give you the moral and physical support one needs for a birth.

Well to be honest, which parents would be happy and supportive, when their daughter leaves them a note to not only inform them that she is pregnant, but already in the hospital delivering the baby. Yes her parents were strict, but lorelei is as much at fault for their strained relationship as her parents.

They could elaborate on so many central episodes in their life's before the show started: The Gilmore Girls moving out, Christopher leaving, like you said Lorelai's early days as a chambermaid in the hotel, Rory learning how to read, Lorelai's first Meeting with Luke/ with Suki/with Michel, meanwhile Richard and Emily arguing over there the girls are and what went wrong...Hey when you get there, sign me in as a co-writer, please!! I REALLY would have liked that too. It's a period that I'm so curious about, and that seems so overlooked considering how important it is? I want to know more about how Chris felt at that time, how he was okay just letting Lorelai run off with their child. And also, how Emily reacted to Lorelai moving into the Independence Inn? I mean, Lorelai talks about her parents visiting when she and Rory lived there in Rory's season 1 birthday episode, but Lorelai was a minor, and Emily is so dramatic, I am legitimately curious how things all settled the way that they did.

Lorelei constantly trying to cut her parents out and be "independent" could've killed her and Rory. It was extremely dangerous to drive to the hospital while in labor and without a license. She could've crashed and Emily would be visiting her at the morgue instead of the maternity ward.

Exactly. My daughter had a baby 2-years ago at age 20. She didn’t tell me she was pregnant. She was at my house, but she carried inward. I didn’t meet my granddaughter until she was 3-days old. I was heartbroken. I had the dream of being there with her, just like my mom was with me. Instead she took “friends” from work. I even saw pictures of her baby shower. She was afraid I wouldn’t approve, but she never gave me a chance. I had always stood by her. My daughter did apologize. There is nothing better than being with my granddaughter.

Really liked Dear Emily and Richard, but it would've been nice with more flashbacks of Lorelai's life from before she got pregnat, either way i think this episode really gave light into how Emily and Richard felt about Lorelai leaving them a note, she probably didn't tell anyone when she went into labour, at least that's what episode implied.

I really hope Netflix or one streaming service can do a prequel series called “Lorelei”, which takes place in the 80s. Do season one about the pregnancy for ten episodes and end it with Lorelei leaving home to move to Stars Hallow. After that, do five seasons about the early years and I think the ending is Lorelei getting made manager of the hotel.

But they were also insensitive, demanding, controlling, manipulative, rigid and critical,which made it difficult to have a good relationship with them. I get people saying that Emily’s behaviour is because she actually wanted to be involved in this part of Lorelai’s life (despite her poorly displaying that intention) and was kept out of it, but a sane person should have some common sense and a sense of timing. This was NOT the right time to be yelling at your 16 year old, in immense pain, terrified daughter when she is GOING THROUGH LABOUR. In public. She’s clearly in pain and about to give birth and you think giving her a yelling precedes that? No it doesn’t! You’re the parent you need to act better and act more wisely- push aside your emotions for the time being and try and support your daughter rather than yelling at her for getting herself to the hospital. It was an emergency and at the end of the day you should be grateful she’s at the hospital safe.

Im kind of curious as to how Lorelai, who at the moment was 16, was able to check herself in to the hospital? I thought minors couldnt be admitted without parents permission even if its a teen girl about to have a baby? And frankly, even if the timing was bad, Lorelai deserved to get yelled at by Emily. Leaving and only leaving a note when shes in a very fragile state and taking herself to the hospital. A million things could of gone wrong on the way to the hospital and her parents wouldnt of known until it was too late. She had no right to do that to her own parents when she was still living with them.

Lorelei was always terrible to her parents. The whole "Friday night suppers." Why do you think Richard and Emily requested that as part of the agreement to pay for Chilton and later Yale. THEY WANTED TO BE IN HER LIFE! And all she ever did was complain about having to go. I would kill to have family supers with my parents. I've got good parents don't get me wrong but I wouldn't be complaining if they wanted to have supper with me once a week. Yes, they often offended her or put their noses too deep into her business but that's because their views and ways of living are extremely different than their daughter. It was very obvious they did love their daughter they were just super strict with strict ideas of what her life should have been. I did not live up to my mom's expectations (they weren't unreasonable) and I can tell she's unhappy about that. I just hate her so much when she complains about spending time with her parents... do you know how many people have parents who make 0 effort? And the fact that Loreli is jealous that her parents treat Rory differently... of course they do! It's normal for people to treat their grandkids differently than their own kids. Besides, Rory didn't fight them on EVERYTHING, she was willing to try things and was willing to do things she didn't want to do in order to make her grandparents happy... something Lorelai would never do and then she wonders why they treat Rory better. I'm sorry this long but Lorelai is such a selfish entitled little shit sometimes. Yes, Emily and Richard go overboard, say the wrong things, get too involved, and can be quite harsh on their daughter, especially in this scene, but I cannot stand Loreali complaining. "My parents want to be in my life and have supper with me once a week boohoo."
