Rory leaving college was her decision, we all know that. Richard and Emily were not responsible for Rory‘s choice, but they definitely excluded Lorelai from a very important conversation about Rory’s future and they provided Rory with a very cushy lifestyle. At first they made it seem like they were on Lorelai’s side when they were going to try to convince Rory to go back to Yale, but then they went ahead and made a huge decision without including her. I understand that they had a change of heart after seeing how distraught Rory was, but I think they should’ve had a conversation with her mother instead of just telling her what was going to happen. Also I really wish that Lorelai had expressed how she felt about the situation better in this scene. To me she should’ve told Richard that she felt hurt and betrayed by them. There was a plan and her parents completely changed it without her input. Because Lorelai doesn’t describe how she’s feeling Richard just thinks Lorelai is being difficult again, therefore he doesn’t really understand why she won’t help. The communication here always frustrates me.

I agree she likes it in a way that it doesn't appeal to Lorelei but I feel like Rori is too ignorant of herself to actually realize that. This is a girl who looks at herself with rose colored glasses instead of a mirror. She'd tell you she doesn't really care or like it. I think the clearest example of this comes when she writes that article about Logan's party and he even points out that she is of a privileged background where she wouldnt see it that way.

It’s a weird codependent relationship that Lorelia and Rory made plans for spending her 21st birthday together. But I guess it’s because Lorelai didn’t get a wild 21st because it was after Rory was born(not her fault). It’s crazy seeing how Lorelai lives vicariously through Rory so much.

I always hated that Richard looked down on the very things his wife did for him. Truthfully, Rory would have been a great event planner. Emily and Lorelei were both good at that as well so it's not surprising that Rory also had a knack for it. What she did with that fundraiser was very impressive and clearly showed she was competent and had great people skills. But Richard almost looked at that as if she would have been a failure for doing it.

Wait if Rory had a trust fund, and it was a significant amount seeing as her grandparents were rolling in money, then why in the sequel did she have no money and no where to live. 2.30.. this is the most annoying thing about lorelai.. she never accepts that rory is at fault. It is always someone else's fault.. first Jess then logan then her parents. Honestly can't believe people are siding lorelai here. Richard didn't cause anything. Your silly daughter did lorelai maybe if you didn't raise her like you did she wouldn't have saw herself as special and entitled to everything. But no one can fault lorelai and rory can they?
@DarkPascual2 жыл бұрын
Usually I would agree, but this is a case where everybody was somewhat at fault. Rory showed an absolute lack of character by falling apart and running away at the first real criticism that she ever faced. Lorelai proved that she isn't as open as she think she is to her daughter's mistakes. That being said, Lorelai went to her parents for help to try to convince Rory to go back to college and instead they decided to give her a escape route and shelter her from the consequences of her decision. I agree that Lorelai tends to be incredibly self-centered, entitled and arrogant, but she WAS betrayed in this situation.

I think she just grew up knowing she wouldn't be listened to so gave up on communicating and instead embraced using arguments as an emotional outlet. The yelling and tantrums might not get her anywhere but it feeling better than keeping it in and still getting nothing. Cause really, Emily and Richard have proven many times in the series that when they have a few on something they will stick to it ignoring fact or others rights to feel a certain way.

People like you scare me. Just the fact that Emily hired Lorelai's ex to break up her relationship with Luke alone should be reason enough for just about everything.
@khaxjc13 жыл бұрын
You have to remember that even if her parents dont seem bad in the moment or even overall in the series we come into the relationship after 32 years of history. Lorelei spent years not being treated well by her parents. How she addresses them now is born of that. Sure, she's not without her faults but given what we are told of their history we cant deny that while she was privileged in the sense of being provided for, her childhood had many problems ranging from indifference to the extreme on Richards part to among other things over controlling, lack of respect, lack of privacy, verbal abuse, and manipulation from Emily. Not to mention growing up and having to see them treat others poorly and judge and be prejudice and when saying so being ignored or looked down on for not judging others. I know a guy, his dad seems great. He gets comments all the time from people about how his dad seems nice and they don't get why he doesn't like him. His answer is "Im his son. I had to grow up and live being his son." Then you hear stories and its hard to reconcile how his dad acts with general people with the objectively horrible father he was. Sure as an adult the guy doesn't get as much shit as he did, but he lived with it and he still gets a lesser version pretty often. Another example is a friend whose mom and aunt hate the relationship she had with her Grandmother because she got nicer with age and was good to the grandkids but horrible to her children. Hell, my own uncle will treat friends and strangers like gold but is horrible to family. He had a fried yell at him and not speak again for a year after coming to the house to visit because and I quote "I wouldn't accept a stranger talking to their mother like that let alone stay quiet while you treat your mom like shit." Families and people are complicated and its easy to dismiss the years when your living in the present if you arent the one thats been hurt. lorelei was hurt and now she doesnt behave ideally. She tends to get petty instead of rising above. But thats allowed. Her flaws dont negated her parents wrongs.
@CDG12283 жыл бұрын
They deserved it. This was not about Lorelai being entitled...quite the opposite. When she told her parents about Logan's family and how they threated Rory, they refused to believe their own daughter. Why would she lie about her own daughter's treatment? She goes to them for help and they agree......only to completely go against her plan. I didn't like this storyline simply because all along Rory was supposed to be someone who was smart, and determined and knew what she wanted and to have one person completely shatter her belief and confidence in herself was contrary to that. She even said in her HS graduation speech that Lorelai raised her to believe to she could do or be anything she wanted. I'm sure it was done to create someone drama or conflict in their relationship to make for an interesting storyline but it should have been something more believable to the character.
