So odd that most of these comments make excuses for Doolittle Lynn’s domestic abuse, because he pushed her into the music business. My Mother-in-law was crazy over Loretta Lynn, especially when she sang duets with Conway Twitty. Looking back, I remember so many great times jamming to the 1970's Country Music Stations when visiting with her, and on occasion, chiding her into dancing the Charleston to different music for us younger folk (at the time). My dad was fortunate enough to meet her. She asked him how he was doing and when she found out asked for my grandparents phone number. My dad handed it over thinking that was that and that nothing would come of it or if it did someone from her publicity team would issue a general message. Country music used to be good. I don't listen to it any more because these young artists have just completely wrecked it. Its my opinion. The music all has the same beat and I can't tell one singer from the next. Back in the day I knew who the singer was. I can remember Ray Price a long time country singer with a beautiful baritone voice and he said the same thing that I did about country music. I loved the movie Coal Miners Daughter and Sissy did a great job playing Loretta. Loretta took a lot from her husband , more than I ever would. I think some ppl can do enough damage in a marriage that it turns the love cold .Loretta was a very strong woman and she put up with a lot of sorrow in her life.RIP Loretta.

I was raised in Bossier City, across Red River from Shreveport, Louisiana where the Louisiana Hayride was held every Saturday night. You would have loved it. Every country star played there. Hank Williams rented a house that backed up to mu grandfathers three acre property. Many of those country singers would gather at Williams home on Sunday afternoon and drink and play music. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan at that time. I do like Country music today. I didn’t like the country twang. But recently I learned to listen to the voices and most were very good. And believe it or not, I didn’t like Elvis.

My Paternal Grandmother was literally born a coal miner's daughter, in Kentucky. My Great Granddaddy was an Irish immigrant, given the choice of "Military or the mines" so he chose the mines. My own Daddy was born in 1933 in NYC, where that coal miner eventually had moved up to. All that said, Doo was BENEATH Loretta in every way. THAT was probably his second biggest problem. This whole relationship reeks of narcissistic abuse and co-dependency, and she should have let the bum go when she had the chance. He was a low-life POS that used that woman for his own gain. If Patsy Cline had lived, she would have gotten Loretta out of that hell, I'm sure of it. RIP Loretta. YOU will always be remembered as The Queen. Doo? an appropriate name.

Her father knew what type of person Doo was; he warned Doo not to take his baby girl away from KY. Doo did just that, moved Loretta away, and her father died not long after that. Doo was narcissistic and was jealous of Loretta's fame and her growing circle of friends. Patsy was indeed a great friend to Loretta and helped her get her start, but she also taught her how to stand up to Doo and the finer points of stage presence. I remember one story in which Loretta was attracted to Conway Twitty, her singing partner, but didn't act on it. She could have done it to get back at Doo for his affairs, but she took the high road.

That's kind of what I thought. He sure didn't have any good looks physically and he was abusive as heck I would never in my life stay with a drunk cheating man. After Loretta became famous and wealthy I think Doo was jealous of her but he certainly enjoyed her money. I lost my husband almost 3 years ago but he was a sweetheart and very good to me for 44 years. I miss him every day of my life. I know I'll see him in heaven.

I loved the lady, the music and the movie! Sissy Spacek was incredible in this movie and had an amazing singing voice! I did NOT, however, like reading in the book that Doo killed a dog and sadly, Loretta basically shook her head about that. I would have LEFT that man. Very upsetting to read this section in the book. The book was great, just not that part!

I think Loretta and Doo demonstrated the power of love by sticking it out through thick and thin! This is what love truly is! It isn't just basing your decisions on fleeting feelings, but on the life-long covenant that two people make together! We are all flawed people, some more than others, but when we learn to take everything to God in prayer, we find the capacity to endure. Loretta was a firecracker herself, I'm sure she poked the bear many of times, I know I did back in the day! 😂 Not to excuse the man, but none of us are born saints. Poking the bear long enough will cause a reaction. We all wish to live in a world where there is no violence and strife, but that day is coming when you have your faith in Jesus Christ. Right now, we just have to endure each other's deficiencies and show each other grace and mercy.

@cassiebennet4262 There are a lot of unjustifiable things people do in this world. We live in a fallen condition called sin. In the world to come (God's kingdom) you could literally poke a bear and be fine, but I wouldn't try that now! Domestic violence is an ugly, awful way to handle frustration, but it is rampant in this sin-ridden world because self-control is a fruit of the spirit and many people aren't connected to the Holy Spirit, so therefore, have no self-control. Loretta could have left Doo at any time, especially when he was old and feeble, but instead, she put her career on hold to take care of him before he died. That is a testimony of love! She loved that man no matter how unworthy other people deemed him to be. That is a testament of her faithfulness and dedication!!! I frankly believe that the way she loved was beautiful!!!

For every one saying she was 13 or 14 when she for married : LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Country music legend Loretta Lynn is three years older than she has led people to believe, an age change that undermines the story she told of being married at 13 in "Coal Miner's Daughter," documents obtained by The Associated Press show. Lynn's birth certificate on file at the state Office of Vital Statistics in Frankfort, Ky., shows that Loretta Webb was born on April 14, 1932, in Johnson County, Kentucky. That makes her 80 years old, not 77. Also on file is her marriage license and two affidavits from her mother, Clara Marie Ramey, and S.W. Ward Jr., no relation to the family, listing the same birthdate. The records weren't filed until 1965, which meant that Lynn needed multiple documents to prove her age at that time. Lynn's signature appears on the document as Loretta Webb Lynn. Melvin Webb lists his daughter "Loretta" as 7 years old for the 1940 Census, according to a digital copy on file at the Kentucky Historical Society. Lynn's marriage license, obtained by the AP from the Johnson County clerk's office lists her as 15 on Jan. 10, 1948. In "Coal Miner's Daughter," the autobiography that became an Academy Award-winning film, Lynn told a different story. She said she was married at 13 and was a mother of four by 18. Most books and public references to Lynn list her current age as 77. Lynn's spokeswoman, Nancy Russell of Nashville, declined comment. She said that Lynn has told her before, "If anyone asks how old I am, tell them it's none of their business!" Lynn's younger brother, Herman Webb, declined to disclose Lynn's age, although he said there might have been a "mix-up" with Lynn's paperwork after she moved to Nashville to begin her music career. Her parents and many other relatives are dead, including her husband, O.V. "Mooney" Lynn. Certainly Lynn isn't the first celebrity to fudge a birthday, but the discrepancy is significant because age isn't just a number for the Country Music Hall of Fame member. It is woven into her compelling life story, made famous in her 1976 bestselling autobiography, "Coal Miner's Daughter," and the subsequent film starring Sissy Spacek. The way Lynn chose to tell it in the book, she was married at 13, moved with her husband to Washington State at 16 and was a mother of four by 18. Lynn has six children in all. The marriage certificate shows that Lynn instead married just shy of her 16th birthday, which was not unusual in Kentucky at that time. Her husband was 21. It would have been illegal for a girl under the age of 14 to marry in Kentucky in 1948, said R. Eric Henninger of the Kentucky State Law Library. At that time, he said, "lots of folks didn't have any sort of official proof of age." An AP reporter recently found Lynn's birth certificate online that listed a different birthdate from the one listed in the news agency's database of celebrity birthdays. The reporter changed the date in the database; when the new birthday was used in a recent story, the Country Music Hall of Fame contacted the AP about the discrepancy. Lynn's co-author on "Coal Miner's Daughter," New York Times sports columnist George Vecsey, said he did not verify the age claims in the book with official documentation. "It's her book, and I never saw a birth certificate, marriage license. It's what they told me," he said.
