If your Lorex DVR or NVR keeps rebooting

Here's how to resolve the rebooting Issues on Lorex DVR and NVRs , There are a few reasons that your recorder may be rebooting, first verify the following:
Try a different outlet connection. For example, you can unplug the recorder from your surge protector and go directly to the wall, or try a different power outlet. Verify that you are using the correct power supply for your recorder, not the power supply for your cameras or switch.
If your recorder is still rebooting, please continue with the following steps:
1. Turn off the power to your recorder and disconnect the cameras from the back. When you unplug the cameras, nothing is being recorded to the hard drive; this helps determine if the concern is with the Hard Drive, or the operating system in the recorder.
2. Turn the recorder back on. If it is no longer rebooting, this likely indicates an issue with the hard drive. If the recorder continues rebooting, there may be an issue with the operating system in the recorder.

For anyone who's been having this rebooting issue, here is how I fixed mine. Open the case and turn it on, see if your cpu fan and case fan are working as expected. In my case, it was the fans. After almost 3 years, both cpu fan and case fan are stuck and no longer spinning. As a result it keeps rebooting because of overheating issue. After replacing those fans, it's been working fine again for me.

Regarding the constantly rebooting issue, here is how I fixed mine. I have the Lorex 8 camera 1080P system that I purchased from Costco about five years ago. It is very similar to the Lorex system that is shown in this Lorex video. Take the case cover off and turn the system on. See if your CPU cooling fan is working and the fan blade is spinning full speed and freely as it should. In my case, the cooling fan blade was not spinning at all and therefore it was causing the CPU to overheat and turn off until it cooled off and then it would reboot and run for about two to five minutes and then turn off and reboot and turn back on and then turn off again and reboot and so on and so on. My system is about five years old and this is the first issue that I have had with the system. I removed the CPU fan from the circuit board (easy to do by removing the two spring retainer pins with a pair of needle-nose pliers) and cleaned it real good with some canned electronics spray cleaner aerosol and freed up the fan blade some by prying up on the blade very slightly all the way around with a very small eyeglass repair flathead screwdriver until the fan blade spun freely just like it should. After doing this, I reassembled the CPU cooling fan to the circuit board and powered up the system and the CPU fan spun freely at its normal speed just like it should. I screwed the top cover back on and connected all the cables and it is now working normal just like it always has been since I first bought and installed it about five years ago. This may or may not be the same cause as what your system is doing but it may be worthwhile for you to try doing the same thing as what I did. Good luck with your system!

I called Lorex tech support bc my DVR just stopped working. Went over the steps to check the DVR for proper function and Lorex determined the DVR had failed and would be sending a replacement. 2 months later no replacement DVR and just email stating they wanted to try addition checks. 3 plus hours on the phone doing this plus waiting for the replacement DVR. not sure these systems are worth it especially with the poor customer support.

And, how to enter set-up menu if it does not come up? Date/time & camera info also blanks out upon reboots (~250ms). How do I correct that?!?

Same here. I haven't figured this out yet. I noticed the heatsink fan does not spin even though voltage is applied to it. The heatsink is cool to the touch and the fan does not have a tachometer, so this probably isn't the issue.

It seems to be a firmware problem. I have the same problem, I disconected the HDD but the same thing happened. I sent the HDD to revision with a technitian but there was nothing wrong with it. I don't see any info to hard reset and reinstall the firmware

Just replaced the thin (wafer) battery and its working now. I first performed the procedures in this video to no avail.

1.5 years of testing and switching cameras, ports renaming cameras, changing power sources, using ports 1234 and then 5678, and had reboot problems. Changed units, have model D841A8. 2 TB. IN conclusion, port 4 and 8 always blanked out and caused a system reboot. MY THOUGHT is s faulty MOTHERBOARD. Past experience---- caused a total shutdown on Asus motherboard with windows 95. By using the user name CON, in setup, short for Conrad totaly froze the system . Had 3 motherboards returned before problem was solved by changing the user name... That's why I changed camera names as well as previously mentioned.

I only know mine restarts because I set it to display 4 cameras but when I switch to the nrv input it’s showing all 8. And a couple times while I’m on the display screen I saw the nvr rebooting. It’s plugged into a surge protector and nothing else went out. I don’t know if this makes any sense but it started right after the utility changes my electric meter.

Check if the fan is turning when the system is on. If the fan is not turning your system is overheating. Change the fan 5V 2 plug. stop rebooting

We did all of these steps and it ours keeps doing rebooting or freezing up. Our friends DVR did the same thing at their office. I think we will be shopping around after hearing a they had the same issues.... Kinda done with Lorex!!

Did you check the voltage on that coin cell battery on the motherboard? It's a little 3v lithium battery and mine is currently below 3 volts and my system keeps rebooting. I'm not certain if that's the issue but my fan spins like day one and I still have bootloop but that little coin cell is dead so idk.

Before it went out I hit something in there it caused a bunch of red boxes on screen then it went to show me pictures freezing up and rebooting over and over again the same thing and I cannot get into the system

The bottom 2 screws at the bottom (1:26) have nothing to do with removing the case. :-/ PS. Just spent an hour with phone support, unable to establish a remote connection for troubleshooting. Network performance is terribly slow and unreliable now with Comcast (and probably all carriers), with everybody staying home and streaming entertainment.

DO NOT re-secure the cover AT ALL during the troubleshooting process as instructed during this video as it is pointless and time consuming. Just place it in the correct position on the case (unless you like screwdriving for fun)

Reset your setting to Manufactory Default. Meant now your forgotten Admin Password is being reset as well. Use Manufactory PW. Hope this helps
