Thanks now I know mine isn't the only crazy lorikeet. We have both rainbows and scaley breasted lorries bought from a breeder but it's the scaley that I found in the park without tail feathers that just loves to play wrestle with me. He has long since regrown his tail and flies perfectly but when we are outside he chooses not to. He'll fly inside the house whenever I walk away from him. I can't even make a cuppa or go to the toilet without him joining me. I love him to bits and he loves me too.

+antstorm Lorikeets do fight for dominance, but this video is definitely NOT an example of fighting behavior. This is a mated pair at play who have been visiting me for some years. Note the way they move happily away in unison at the end of their tussle. True lorikeet fights are marked by ruffled plumage to make themselves appear bigger, a LOT of noise, and often a cloud of flying feathers!

mine does the exact same thing.. he chases toes and loves to lay on his back and get a belly rub. feisty little thing can sometimes attack strangers in the house and when he hates another bird, he hates em for life and will do anything to pluck their feathers. overall he's the best and most fun bird we have.. always entertaining himself and ppl around him with his crazy acts.

I remember the baby lorikeet I found with a broken wing. Took him in and cared for him. We became close companions, he loved to climb up on me and nibble on my ear lobe. He lived in a big cage up near where I found him on an apricot tree. I left the door open for him so he can climb around the tree but he was never able to fly. He'd jump from branch to branch eating the fruits. Then one day I went outside to play with him and I saw him cuddling up with a female parrot, more to come

Roger Miller perfect for this he had so much humour in his music. Have watched it so many times and grand kids think its hilarious even my budgie gets a kick out of it Excellent download.

Thankyou Chuckabutty for your nice comment. Isn't it wonderful that people get such joy from these creatures simply playing. But it is a kind of slapstick comedy which is pretty much universal humour which crosses cultures. I wonder if other lorikeets think it's funny watching their friends in these kinds of antics? Knowing these creatures for many years as I have, I bet they do!

@holmsatlarge Of all my feathered visitors, the lorys are my favorite. They are very social creatures, and seem to really enjoy interaction with people. Sometimes I get 40 or 50 all at once and the bickering. playing and screeching reminds me of a kids picnic. And I never cease to be amazed at their truly extraordinary coloring!

Here I am back again to comment on this clip which has been in my favourites box since first viewing it. Comments says it was a year ago that I commented but I know it is much much longer, for I have watched it so many times and shared with my grandkids and now my great grandkids. All my life I have loved the pleasure that birds can give with their antics and love for I have had budgies who were just as adorable and were such a part of the family. I have tapped a good few "thumbs up" to remind others again about the enjoyment that this clip brought them also. Heres hoping they come back to comment again. Hope your still around Nique, thanks again for sharing.

Many thanks for your kind and generous comments, they're much appreciated! I agree with everything you say about birds, and the lorikeets still come here in large numbers every day and are utterly delightful and engaging. I recently shot some video of cheeky corellas pulling the tails of lorikeets and kookaburras, I MUST get on with editing that and uploading to KZbin, it's very funny. Lots of other avian visitors too: for the last few months we've had a pair of southern boobook owls roosting in the breezeway under our house during the day and they've just produced a gorgeous fluffy chick! I don't think the other birds are too thrilled though, particularly the mynas and the butcher birds who kick up a very noisy protest as soon as they find the owls each morning. Delighted to hear the grand and great grand kids enjoy!

This vid was taken in Bayview, south end of Pittwater, Sydney. I reviewed the original vid carefully and I think what you are seeing is ruffled feathers where they are nipping each other in play. There is one lori who visits me with an odd deformity, it has one of its legs and claw in the middle of its back! It hops around and otherwise seems to function perfectly well.
@riverp90195 жыл бұрын
Mine does this with my hand. Shame I should get another one. This one just arrived. Flew onto my head out of the trees and stayed. It has a ring on it's leg. I let it go everyday but it comes back after an hour or so. Pecking at the window. Extremely lovable, active and quite exausting. Speaks nonstop too. Will play with anything even my pen. lol

I breed lorikeets in Brisbane. Im unsure on how things in are in america for lorikeets but i can give you some tips :) you need to be willing to do the work! like Beanick said, theyre droppings are very runny! so heaps of cleaning will need to be done. theyre full of energy so you really need things to keep them busy! foraging toys are best for this, it allows them to search for food and work for it, like wild birds would! if you could give me an email, i think i can give you better information!
