Wish I had seen your videos sooner!! I am 70 this year. All my life I have dabbled in art. Now I am retired and love abstract art best because for me it's all about how a painting makes me feel. So what you say and do I relate to wholeheartedly!! I so very much enjoy listening to you, because you are so unpretentious. and know exactly how to teach. Your videos are a real treat for me. Thank you for doing them! How is your new place? I hope you are happy there. My husband and I sold everything three years ago and moved to France. We live in a renovated barn on my daughter's property. We lived in Connecticut before that. We live on our pensions and are quite content just having enough. So painting and music and a bottle of cheap wine, make life divine. I wish you much happiness on your path, and good health!! Respectfully Suzanne

HaHa 😁 Enjoyed??? I love love loved it 👍 I only started abstract painting 4 January 2022. I’ve done around 12 canvases in a geometric style comprised of fun masking tape and splatter. I have no artistic bone in my body but suddenly felt the urge to start painting at 65. My mum can draw and paint real life beautifully and although I love all styles of painting I wanted to do something like you’re doing on large canvases. So far I have found it to be an obsession and I’m chaffing at the bit to improve. I love this style and will start practicing straight away. I gave myself 12 months to play and see if I was any good or if I could see I was constantly improving and I’m so very hopeful nearly 6 months in. And now to find such an amazing lesson with key information gives me hope that I will find my niche. You explained the process very clearly and I could see exactly what you were saying and I thank you sincerely Lori for your time and generosity in sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated 😁🌸💖🌸

Thank you!!!! OMG, I was just researching values yesterday and I am amazed you are teaching values. :) I have been struggling with deciding on a new series and I feel like I have artist block. I guess I'm trying too hard and I should just start playing with different techniques. I have been wanting to try some landscapes but I seem to like abstracts, so this video is a good start especially with grey scales. I have to figure out how to put colors together. I am a intuitive artist and do paint pours and just grab paint. I love how some of your paintings have such a nice range of colors that compliments each other. Again you rock!! Sherry, Campbellford

I actually am aware that value is the most important. And I can see it in other people's paintings, or when it's missing. But for some reason I struggle to see it in my own work. It's weird. So, as a result, I struggle with value. When I know there's something wrong in my painting, I always think the problem is the thing or object next to the value problem. Don't know if I'm explaining this correctly. I don't know why I sort of block it out in my own work. Thank you for this video. I always need the reminder. And I'm going to try painting in b&w

@lorimirabelliabstractartist3 жыл бұрын
I think Squinting the eye is more about diminishing the harsh lines when you draw. Taking a photo and switching to black and white photo will show you value. 😊
@palwashafineart48393 жыл бұрын
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist if a painting is dull or everything is pretty much the same value then when we squint our eyes, we see or notice that there is not much light and darkness, light and shadow or contrast in that painting. On the other hand I can think of some great paintings that have little in terms of contrasting values. We all see differently. I was a music major in college, and following the “rules” of composition would guarantee a boring piece of music. So, you learned the rules in order to break them.
