I don't get why people hate on pet stuff so much. I understand it's important for proper care for pets, but there is a right way to address stuff. People don't have to be rude about it and attack people. It's like they assume different people are doing things on purpose. I just wanted to say something about that. I do advocate for good pet care, and I do the best I can myself, but I get tired of people judging and attacking people with animals. Anyway, I was actually surprised to hear people are attacking her. She is very knowledgeable on hermit crabs. People should know that if they do their research.

@@victoriascata4455 I have no problem with correct care methods. I do take issue with any person or group acting as gatekeepers who believe their methods are the only acceptable ones even when such claims are insupportable. Concern trollers like you are a massive issue in pet care communities.
@LulaMae214 жыл бұрын
@@victoriascata4455 Everything I've read from long-term crabbers is that there are a variety of methods that work and in which crabs can thrive. European crabbers do things differently and reportedly have better success with exotic species than we do in the U.S. If recognizing that different care methods work in different situations means I'm "defending bad care," so be it. Concern trolling is a particular type of trolling in which someone comes along to inform another of all they're doing wrong in caring for an animal out of feigned concern for the animal. The real motivation is a sense of superiority, whether in knowledge, care, or both. It's quite obvious you relish in this behavior, so yes, labeling you a concern troll was appropriate.

I am curious as to how your crabs are so small? We adopted a crab that is at least 8 years old and he is in a 3 inch opening shell. We have a working theory that when provided bigger shells, and they choose them and then molt in them, they actually seem from our observation to grow to fit the size of shell avaliable. I guess this is a survival technique due to the lack of shells in the wild. I wonder if you provide bigger shells if they will get bigger? We have to offer a large variety in all of our tanks because we have varying sizes and sometimes we notice a smaller crab take a shell way to big and then when it comes back from a molt, it fits. We obviously can't prove this fact but it is something we are strongly considering and it honeslty makes sense from the wild aspect of these animals. We are still observing this, especially with our captive bred babies to see any differences, but it is still a curiosity we have as hermit crab owners of several hermit crabs.
@LorisHartland5 жыл бұрын
Crab Central Station interesting theory! I offer several size options for each crab but they move around when they feel like it mostly. I also exchange shells out too, I have a lot! But I will say gunner has at least tripled in size since I got him, he was so tiny. 💗

Humidity is what they breathe with, they may not be active because they cannot breathe right without the right humidity! They have gills, not lungs. Saltwater is also essential to their health, which could be another reason why they are not moving much. Missing these essentials basically means your hermits are slowly dying, which can be reversed if corrected soon enough.

Do you know if a crab is about to molt by how white their skin is? Mine has white skin on the inside of his body but red on his legs.

I have had my crabs for 2 weeks. They haven't eaten or drank anything. They're alive. They move around though not much. I don't know if I should leave them alone or try something

Hey, I'm planning on getting a tortoise and I heard their diet is super complex. Would you mind making a video on the does and don'ts of feeding your tortoise. Thanks!

I have eight hermit crabs and I agree that the hermit community is insane at times! They will attack you about everything. Your doing great they have lived so long and are happy.

Amy Dwight thank you, yes I hear ya. It’s crazy at times but I’m used to it. People have differences of opinions and that’s fine, if I wasn’t having success or healthy crabs I WOULD CHANGE EVERYTHING. 💗

@@LorisHartland we ended up with ours because of a biology class that my son took. The teacher gave each student a crab to keep which now I realize was awful. When we got ours we bought several more because well we didn't know. After researching stuff we ended up investing a few hundred into a better set up and a lot of different foods. I got a box of instant ocean salt because we go through a lot of water with so many crabs. I don't don't let anyone hold our crabs ever. We have been asked and I just say no because they don't like being held plus people have all kinds of stuff they put on skin like lotions I don't want my crabs getting contact with that. We love them a lot but lesson learned. I tell anyone who (loves) looking at our crabs or if they find out we have them do not buy them. It isn't a good (pet) ect. Love your channel and thanks for the video.

does the lid of your terrarium have holes in it? would you say it's okay to have a lid that has constant ventilation or better to have a glass lid? :)

My family and I went to the beach last weekend, my niece God bless her found a hermit crab. Of course being an 8 yrs old girl she wanted to keep it. I had to explain that he would happiest in his natural home. After some boo boo lips and convincing we let Captain Pinch go near our hotel lol

I just got another crab because I only had one and it was getting lonely because I know they live in groups. So I know she doesn’t support getting them but my crab needed a friend!! I am in love with both of my crabs and this channel is so useful!! She liked my comment and when I got that notification I knew this channel was a channel I’m going to watch!! I have two turtles and a dog and fish! So I am a animal person too!! If you love animals I post some vids of my animals on my channel!! So subscribe if you’d like!!

Hermit crabs live in humid tree areas near oceans in South America were it is hot and humid. They aren't beach crabs, they are tree crabs. They probably died from overheating on the beach or were quickly eaten by seagulls and other birds.

I am planning on adopting a hermit crab. Like you said in your video you don’t want people to buy them. Is it ok just to adopt them? I have watched all of your hermit crab videos and I think that I would take great care of them because if all of the advice you have shared. Thanks for the great videos! (I am a huge fan of you and you hermit crabs!)

I think so- it gives hermit crabs a longer life but doesn’t support the industry.
