Oh wow, Russ. My dad was in the Army Air Corps as well. He was part of the 8th Air Force out of Kimbolton, England. He was a navigator on a B 17 that went down behind enemy lines on June 13, 1943, after a mid-air collision with a German Messerschmitt. He spent the rest of the war in a German POW camp. If you dad was by chance stationed at Kimbolton then they may have known one another.

We visited Taos in 2017, during the month of January. It was colder, but not bitter cold. I aways wanted to revisit in the summer months. This video shows me what that would be like. We stayed at our timeshare, Club Wyndham Taos. Very nice place. I liked Taos and the people. We came up through the Cimarron Canyon, coming from Oklahoma. It was a nice drive. We drove through Eagles Nest. Lots of snow and very cold. Everything was white. Northern NM is beautiful! Enjoy your trip and be safe!

People don’t realize it because the highway goes through the flattest areas around the mountains. People are shocked when I take them on the tram in the desert and 20 minutes later it’s cool and they’re in a forest. Lol. Northern NM is one of the biggest states in itself.

When I stayed overnight in Santa Fe, I "boondocked" in the local Walmart parking lot with a host of other campers. I took Interstate-25 North towards Denver and I stopped halfway to discover "Great Sand Dunes" National Park in the western part of the San Luis Valley ("only" about a 150 mile detour) via Colorado Route 160. Northern New Mexico is filled with abandoned houses and ranches, filled with lizards and huge spiders (I stopped a couple of times to have a look) and it has an air of desolation rarely seen in America. Anyway it is an experience worth having at least once to make you understand what "History" means (the settling of the Southwest by Spaniards in the 1700s). Marvelous video, Russ !! RICHARD

Great video of Los Alamos. Definitely need to visit there. I spent a week in Taos last year, and I stayed in that same RV park. Pretty nice park and in a good location, I thought. I also drove the Enchanted Circle, but I had to do it after work, so I didn't get to stop very much before it got dark. But it is a beautiful scenic drive.

I appreciate that you took the time to drive up to my home town. Los Alamos residents take pride in maintaining the beauty and the history of our little town, so it was nice to see you notice that. A small criticism, if you were going to drive up here to visit the History museum, it would have been nice if you had taken a little time to become more familiar with the history. It was a bit jarring for you to come up to the statues of Oppenheimer and Groves and not even know their names. I had the feeling that, as you drove away, you still had not grasped the history of the town.

Congrats on your record breaking month. This NM trip is special because you have shown us both the landscape and the art together. I always wanted to see Los Alamos because of it's history and never thought I'd be able to see it. The church was also great, shame you could not get in. I'm looking forward to more.

As a kid, I lived in Los Alamos and White Rock in the late 60s and early 70s. Thought it was the best place in the world! Before forest fires decimated the eastern Jemez mountain area and before 9-11 closed down access to many beautiful areas. It's a totally different town now. It's "woke", sad to say. But I hold the memories close! Thanks for taking the side trip, Russ!

Been there on a road trip with 2 friends in 1972. All along the trip, people told us that in Taos, look up Dennis Hopper, that anyone on the road was welcome, so we did. We located Dennis' house, knocked on the door at 10 a.m. A lady in a robe answered the door, yawning, said she didn't know where we got that story, but it wasn't true, and anyway, Dennis wasn't home. But we met a hippie named Scott, who let us stay in his Adobe house for 3 days. There was much more to the trip - Arizona, Colorado, we never really completely came back. We still talk about that trip when we're together. It was really a Peyote quest, after we had read the first 2 Don Juan books.
