Check out my walking tour of ALGODONES Mexico. I travel from YUMA ARIZONA to MEXICO during Covid to see how the border town has changed. I usually go to see my dentist.There are less crowds and less shops open. Everyone seems to be wearing masks and socially distancing. Hopefully business will pick up for this town which relies heavily on business from its American and Canadian customers. #mexico #yuma #arizona

Welcome to my channel CODY ABROAD! Im Cody and I absolutely love to travel, make new friends, and learn about other cultures and history. For many years I worked hard, saved everything I could, and sold most of my possesions and vehicle in the United States to be able to travel. I would describe myself as a budget traveler. Im always staying in cheap hostels or home stays with friends I meet, taking cheap local transport, eating delicious street food, and always searching for the free or budget friendly activities or attractions to see. I need several fillings done, several root canals, and maybe a crown or two, or some additional fillings. Do you know exactly who would do this for a competitive rate in Mexico. It's a borderline emergency that I need this done within the next month or two tops. What kind of situation are we looking at for Mexico in terms of prices and doctors there? Thank you Cody!
@CodyAbroad
@CodyAbroad 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and reaching out! Personally the dental work I receice there is fairly routine. I know my dentist does those procedures but I can't say for sure whose the most competitive. Most of the dentists there do some amazing work for a fraction of the prices in the US. My dentist actually lives in the US and commutes to work there. To get the info you need I would suggest joining one of the local Facebook groups for Yuma AZ and ask whose the best for your needs. The FB group "Whats Going on in Yuma AZ" is a good one. I see people asking for dentist recommendations on there alot. As far as doctors Im not sure. Los Algodones specializes in Dentists and Optometrists. I know there are alot of pharmacies there that sell prescription drugs for very cheap. You can get most things without a prescription but be aware that US customs will ask what you bought and are strict on opiods coming back over the border but getting other drugs is fine.

@@Runescape. No problem. Sorry I couldn't help you more with more pricing info. Im sure Uber would work or you could rent a car as well. Theres a parking lot on the US side of the border which is $5. Most people just park and walk across for the day. Also there are hotels in Los Algodones as well. Make sure to check the closing time of the border since it closes earlier during covid. Its been a couple months since I was there so I dont know the exact closing time. Yes as an American a passport or passport card is all you need to get back into the US. By any chance, did you see anyone crossing the border w/luggage? I can't figure out what to do about staying in Mexico and crossing the border with luggage. Or are there transportation services that actually take you across (both ways)?
@CodyAbroad
@CodyAbroad 3 жыл бұрын
I've never seen anyone walking across with luggage but I have seen vehicles crossing both ways. 98% of the people I see there are snowbirds living in and around Yuma and going across to get dental work or prescription drugs for the afternoon and always come back the same day. Most people also park in the parking lot at the border for $6 and just walk. I'm not aware of any transportation services. I've only ever seen personal cars. I'm sure coming with luggage wouldn't be a problem. There's no check getting into Algodones but going back to the US they may search your stuff.

Thinking of going alone for a few days to do dental treatment... is it safe? What’s the best way to get there? I live in MA , I heard a lot about the dental work. Just found this out... Any advice?
@CodyAbroad
@CodyAbroad 3 жыл бұрын
Yes its very safe there. The majority of the businesses there are dentist offices and many people go (American and Canadian) to get dental work including myself. Its only a 15-20 minute drive from Yuma Arizona so you could easily stay in Yuma and drive, park your car there at the border, walk across, and get your work done. There is a secure parking lot at the border for $5. Some people drive across but its easier to go through customs in the US just walking across. During covid there is a curfew and the border closes around 3pm Pacific time I beleive. There are also hotels there so Im sure you could stay there but its a pretty small town and there's not much to do besides eat tacos and go to the dentist. Alot of people fly to Yuma. There are several flights a day coming from Phoenix. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

@CodyAbroad
@CodyAbroad 3 жыл бұрын
Hey John thanks for watching and commenting. This last trip it literally took less than a minute. Normally, without the pandemic, it can take between 10 minutes to an hour. This all depends on the time of year you visit, the day of the week, and the time you return. If you go early in the morning and get your errands done quick then the line is usually short but it you take your time, have lunch, and come back in the afternoon then the line is usually longer. The longest I've ever waited was about 50 minutes.

@@basedjohn9676 Oh wow! Thats crazy! I've heard of people waiting for 2 hours in Algodones. Like I said before getting in and out early is the trick to it since most people come to get their meds, shop around for souvenirs, have lunch, etc. I remember one time a family hadn't considered the wait time and ended up missing a flight back to Denver after having to wait in line an hour. Fortunately the area is shaded from the sun, there is some seating if you need a break from standing, and there's usually vendors selling cold water and snacks.

Plenty of great dentists to choose from. Yes there is a nice secure parking lot on the US side which cost $6 last time I was there. No paperwork involved. Just pay the attendant to park and walk across the border. After returning through US immigration it returns you to the parking lot. All you need is your passport. Some people even park for free along the side of the road but you half to walk a bit extra. I think it's just easiest to use the parking lot. Have fun checking out Algodones. @@CodyAbroad thank you so much for the video! Parking at the secure parking lot would definitely make things a lot easier. I did some researching and some online sources say you need the FMM visa period while other sources are saying you only need it to go beyond the border area (if you only need it beyond the border area, do you know how big is the border area?). If you know and can clarify this for me that will be great. Thanks!
@CodyAbroad
@CodyAbroad 2 жыл бұрын
@@junhuima7389 As far as I know you don't need the FMM. My mother went to the dentist last week and mentioned the Mexican immigration was checking temperatures coming in for covid which is new but that's it. No documents required besides a passport according to my mom. I don't know where the border zone ends exactly. Perhaps a few miles. For Los Algodones the majority of the dentist offices, pharmacies, and restaurants are within 3 blocks of the border. If youre planning to travel out of Algodones into Mexico you'd need an FMM but in Algodones I've never needed one in the 20 years I've been going there. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Ty for your speedy reply. I bought Ivermectin while in Algodones and I do believe that helps with the virus. The pharmacist and Algodones recommended ivermectin for Covid. And doctors in the states are not allowed the doctors to prescribe.

@@francisbrasher7045 No problem thanks for watching! Yes I've heard that too. There's alot of useful meds here in Mexico that you can't get back home. Glad you were able to get some.

They definitely don't like it when you film the border wall and crossing.

Haha true. Going into Mexico is simple. Coming back not so much.

@@Chinaboy101 To get into Mexico you don't need anything at all. To get back into the US you need a passport, passport card, or Ive heard an AZ driver's license works.
