The one culprit of the fires nobody talks about is the invasive golden grass that covers the hills of California which were planted by early Spanish settlers for their livestock. Even if the forests were managed correctly you would still have issue with fires because the invasive grass is dry and highly flammable which makes it the primary source of fuel for the fires in places like the Pacific Palisades where there aren't dense forests. Native California grass aren't as flammable because their deep roots hold more moisture and native California tress also are resilient to fires that's why you see so many of them survive around homes that have burned down. The solution is to remove the invasive grass along with every invasive plant and tree species that aren't native to California, the work has to be divided between every California County and City. It would be nice if you were to talk about the invasive grass to bring more awareness to it so the state cities and counties cane be pressured to get them removed and replaced with native grasses along with native moss, plants and trees. Updating building codes to require metal roofs on all structures as well as a water system that allows for water to fall all along the sides of the structures like a small water fall with the water collected in gutters at the bottom for reuse to provide constant flow of the water fall without the need for more water would be another layer of protection against the fires.

I joined my local tree advisory board to bring awareness to a lot of the non native species and insure only California native tress and plants were on County property but they instead gave me the boot from the board. But if you're local you can pass along the message to the Fire Department and the part of the city who is in charge of building codes.

Cali didn't do any brush management and or controlled burns, nor did they trim branches or tree limbs near power lines. Combine that with the fact they voted and sided with environmental and wildlife conservationists and decided to not use metric tons of sea water to fill reservoirs. Because it would harm a little minnow fish. This isn't a matter of the fire not starting, but the fact the state failed to do any form of fire mitigation at all whatsoever. This is on the Governor, Mayor and other bureaucrats. Cali' also fired thousands in the LAFD who refused to take the shot, meanwhile now they say they are short handed.

I’m a little confused because, living in the Central Valley of CA, we are required to clear all dry brush within a certain number of feet from our home. If we don’t, we get a hefty fine. Why was this stuff not already cleared? Thank goodness for the hard work of all the firefighters! I feel for the families and animals who have been affected by this tremendous disaster. Having family members who have lost everything in fire, we send lots of paws and purrs to everyone for safety and recovery!

With all the homeless in California they could of hired them to clean the forest floors. Bussed them to the work sites for free and saved money, lives, and homes. i live in the woods you have to clean underbrush and dead trees that have fallen. They could've contracted goat herds to clear underbrush. This environmental stuff of not clearing any gaps in the forest is absurd. My great uncle told me many years ago if they didn't clear-cut breaks by allowing logging to operate in sections one of these days California is going to burn down and sadly we are witnessing it. The water situation over smelt fish is absurdity at it's finest.
