I’m 15 years old living in LA, 2021 blessed by god himself and grateful to live, but honestly the 80’s and 90’s seem so fun and humble. I was kid back in the 80s. Had a great childhood, neighbours got together for BBQ and beer, we played together, there was no internet, people were more socialised. As kids we did not worry about everything, about terrorism, extremists, about destroying our planet, did not worry about politics, wars, etc. The closest we got to war was GI Joe vs Cobra.. great TV shows, fantastic music, movies, AFV. Life was different and even that was the last decade of the Cold War, we felt actually safer than nowadays...
@agonzalez89243 жыл бұрын
Idk man.. I was kid in the 80s too. I think in all honesty we mainly remember a time in our lives where as kids we were worry free and didn't have to worry about the problems of the world. All the problems of today existed then too though. I'm sure there were adults that lived paranoid everyday worried they would be nuked by the soviet union at any moment. There were acts of terrorism all the time, assassinations of politicians, even an attempt on a sitting president (look up Reagan assassination attempt video), high crime and pollution. The world is not any crazier today than it was then is what I'm getting at. I think if we can learn anything from childhood and the past is, be aware of the dangers out there, but just try to live your best life and try to enjoy it as much as you did when you were a kid

1988 was an incredible time to be alive. It was just before everything went to shit. People had a spark of life in their eyes you don't see today. Music was alive! Musicians really could play their instruments. People went to outdoor concerts in great numbers, not to ogle the performers but to hear great music. Everything was bustling with originality. People dreamed of flying cars and hoverboards and a Jetsons-like world by 2015, which never happened, not even close. In 1988 there weren't chemtrails being sprayed in the sky. There was no such thing as genetically modified food. You could actually drink out of public water fountains and not get sick. You could drive anywhere, park anywhere, have a beer anywhere, smoke anywhere. Men were men. Women were women. Autism was so rare it was unheard of. I want the world of the 80s back. So bad.

Los Angeles in the 80's was Showtime. Magic ran that city. Janet and Michael owned the radio and then...came...NWA. Holy sheezit when NWA hit the airwaves and MTV and the nightly news the game changed forever. LA's daily murder report was also off the charts. The Bloods and Crips and the wonderful new drug called Crack decimiated LA in the 80's. All a precursor to the explosion after Rodney King in the early 90's. Back then kids used to actually go to each other's homes to hang out. Now the socialization happens over the internet. I dont think stay at home orders affect kids that much. 80s kids would have had a really tough time.

I went to Los Angeles in the summer of 1994, it still had a lot of those late 80s vibes, looked just like this video. I’m guessing this was made in 1988/89, a great time.

I moved to LA in the mid-80's as a teenager, I'm still here, it's amazing how much this city has changed, and how much it has stayed the same. It's still a magical place
@blakeapex32143 жыл бұрын
I came here in 1981 as a 18yo. I think it changed starting in 1992 or so. I am moving away in a few months sadly. This is not the same place that I fell in love with in the early 80's. Money is great but it is not everything. Lived mostly in the Valley and Silverlake. I miss that era but I will not miss the way it has become. Yes it was Magical then but not any more.

Both my parents arrive in Los Angeles in the 80's. My mom came in '82, my dad in '84. I asked them once what the city was liked back then and they couldn't remember much. I'm a little envious of my childhood neighbor and my older brother since they were born in '89, but don't remember even a facet of what it was like, reasonably so. My good friend was born in '86 and I wondered if he can provide a modest recount of those times. I'm a local of LA (born and raised) and in my neighborhood around the time I was born (1991), it still had much of the influence of the 80's which always made me curious and appreciative of the decade I wasn't born in.

I went from toddler at the start of the 80s, to a 13 year old when 1990 rolled around, and it was a really interesting time in hindsight. I played a lot outside with friends, rode my bike everywhere and did quite a bit of exploration even within Los Angeles, within reason I mean. Friends coming over to my house so we could play half ass D&D where we barely understood the rules. Playing Atari with my dad and older cousins, then later with the NES. 90's were a whole different ballgame, once you're a teen things change and you see everything differently. Plus 1991 was when I got my first computer as my birthday present, and first logged online with AOL, and began playing Neverwinter Nights.

L.A. in the 1980s to me meant Tower Records, great concerts, Hollywood Boulevard before it got messed up, everything in English, big hair, good times and great music. Nothing could top the Strip back then and you could cruise Sepulveda without the cops being on your butt.

Nostalgia blurs things. I was a teen ager in the 80's and I remember the Gangs were everywhere. They could hang out 20 deep on a corner and fuck with you. Smog was hanging over the city most of the time. There was good and bad like every era. Even then I remember old cats saying things were better in the 50's. Its all perspective.
