What was it like in Boston? Whenever Boston was in the Finals, especially against the Lakers, it was like people all over the city were bouncing off the walls, excited conversations happening everywhere, absolute strangers on the street psyching each other up. This series though, just before game seven, it felt like adrenaline was dripping from the sky.

Great times in Boston in the 80s! The hate for LA was so palpable, then when Philly was about to eliminate the Celtics in Boston in the ‘82 playoffs the crowd started in with the “BEAT LA, BEAT LA” chant . It was sick, even in losing it was great to hear!

i did laugh and mention the Jack Nicholson/Phil Mickelson thing... just mentioned it in passing while cleaning coffee off of myself. absolutely nothing personal and not meant to hurt your feelings... it makes me smile that you mentioned it in your next 2 videos. that means you're paying attention to the comments, and that's definitely a good thing 👍

Boston had a great team and a great coach that year. Bird wants this one bad. He finally beat his rival, Magic Johnson. This series will go down as one of the greatest NBA finals of all time. Look at all the Hall Of Fame guys .... Kareem, Worthy, DJ, McHale, Bird, Parish, Magic. And two Hall of Fame coaches... K.C. Jones and Pat Riley.

7:29 - Yeah! I love Chief...and look at that expression on his face after that shot. LOL. "Chief" is one of my all-time favorite sports nicknames. In the classic movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (ironically starring Laker fan Jack Nicholson) there was a character "Chief" who was a stoic, non-speaking Native American - his face never changed and he never said a word, just like Robert Parish. But there was also this classic basketball scene: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn7Khnqrh6mph80

Parrish says that is where they got his nickname. Cedric Maxwell gave it to him. Robert loved the movie.

I think it was an offensive foul by Kareem on Parish, because he kinda pushed off on the spin. The angle here is a bit bad, but I think that that left elbow went out.

another great one HenDawg, for another series check out the 1981 ECF, Celtic's vs. 76'ers, the greatest playoff series ever- and put your helmut and pads on, it hurts just to watch they played so hard, and Larry Bird became Larry Legend...🔥⚡️🐲🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐

There were a lot of people (one sportswriter in particular comes to mind) who completely wrote Boston off after game 3, which made their ultimate victory even sweeter (that and the fact that Bird finally got back at Magic for the NCAA loss in '79).
@felixmalcherek29192 жыл бұрын
Yup, Kareem was 37, *playing both offense and defense* ( ;) ) and averaged 27, 8, 4, 2 and 2 in 27 minutes. He was still the Lakers' leading scorer and a key component to their defense in an era where most of the offense came from inside and the mid-range.

We got tix to this game for $9.00. They were behind a brick wall (obstructed view), so I decided to sit right behind the Lakers, next to Dione Warwick. I didn’t so much rush the floor as got swept up in a tidal wave. Go Celtics!

@HenDawgz. Did you notice that Larry was on the line at the end of the game. He makes the first, and then as he's ready to shoot the second, a really happy fan burst onto the court starting to celebrate to early. Larry turns away to keep his concentration and he sees a really happy and very hot FEMALE fan WITHOUT HER SHIRT ON comes running up behind him as he turns. Then the police get everyone off the court and restore order and Larry calmy sinks the second free throw. That's not only clutch. That's the statement of a cold blooded assassin that looks you dead in the eye and says, "I'm gonna kill you now."

Seems to me 🤔 there was a rule banning dunking so Kareem developed his skyhook. Yup. In 1967 the NCAA banned the dunk for 9 years. It was referred to as the "Lew Alcindor Rule"

Greatest game 7 in NBA history was 1969, Bill Russell and the Celtics VS LA. Historic because it was Russell's 11th and last title. Historic because it showed what Wilt really was: a loser. Russell, Hondo. Jones and Don Nelson weren't supposed to be there. They were the Over-the-hill gang and hurting. Only Hondo Havlicek was prime and healthy. Somehow the team that snuck into the playoffs with nobody looking, the final seed, no home court advantage in any series, conquered the East. And then they faced Wilt, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. 1969 was supposed to be THEIR year. Russell's Celtics couldn't win every year... could they? I mean, the Lakers had JERRY WEST AND ELGIN BAYLOR IN THEIR PRIME. WILT was only a year younger than Russell and much healthier. And mr.100 Points In A Single Game would surely not let Russell stop him for the 9th. Surely to God in Heaven the Celtics couldn't win EVERY game 7. ..Could they? No one believed Boston could win that last game. In the locker room Sam Jones ran inside and said, "y'all ain't going to believe what the Lakers went and did." THE Celtics went out and saw thousands of balloons hanging from the rafters in nets. Just waiting for the victory over the Celtics party to start. Russell laughed after a moment and said, "They're going to feel mighty stupid when those balloons have to stay up there." Celebrating before you win. The Laker way. "I don't intend to go out a loser." Russell added. He was also the coach. "Any of you guys need a pep talk, look above us. Now I know how Red's Victory Cigar feels to other guys" Historic because with a few minutes left Wilt TOOK HIMSELF OUT OF THE GAME..With a groin pull, he said, when everyone knew the over-the-hill gang was running him ragged. It made Laker coach Butch Van Breda Kolff so mad that with two minutes left, when Wilt wanted back in, he kept him sidelined. "Tell the big bastard we don't need him." Historic because Don Nelson shot the game-clincher, it was a Harlem Globetrotter stunt shot. It hit the back of the rim with a backspin that shot it 5 feet straight up and it fell straight down through the net and didn't touch the rim. Jerry West: he could shoot that a thousand times and it would never go in. For two months I couldn't think about basketball. I've never been back to Boston since. Every Celtic: of course it went in. We practice that shot all the time. It's the Don Nelson Special. Maybe other teams call it something else... Historic because the Celtics became just another good team, even with 4 or 5 future Hall of famers on the roster. Historic because: those balloons stayed up.
