This has to be the most entertaining clip ever...Sanders and Jones are hilarious. By the way--note how they keep marvelling over how quick West could get his shot off. That's what made him so special.

How streamlined was the court? No advertisements, no logos, no three point line, only the basic boundaries, half court, and foul lines. A truly simpler time. I’ve heard so much about the players in the 60s but never saw them play. Got to love KZbin.

Bill was great from 1959 to 1965. They stopped running around that time and went more half-court. The politics of the NBA affected him and others like Tommy Heinsohn, Oscar Robertson, Bob Pettit, Elgin Baylor, and Wilt. The protest of the 1965 All-Star game affected all those guys because they were spending so much time away from the court. Their sacrifice is what makes this game great because they got that TV contract ftom ABC. Finally, the game started to evolve from a guard to center game to a swingman game. Elgin was the first then Jerry West, John Havlicek, Gus Johnson, Bill Bradley, Jack Marin, Jerry Sloan, Billy Cunningham, and so on. Elvin Hayes was the power forward. Oscar Robertson was the power guard like John Williamson but on the point because he started the attack. It was a two-guard game then.

@slip satch I agree, they allow more bullshit in today's game. I prefer the way the game was played from 1980 to 1993. I have a hard time watching a full game, these days. However, the players today are a better, overall. I would say that about 40% of the players in Jack Marin's era could play today.

No it wasn't in fact I watched the Chicago bulls walk the ball up the court f for years in the early 70s ....as some teams often did and some teams ran all the time like Boston with Russell havlicek and art williams... Depends on the team....alot of idiots think guys like wilt and Russell got a ton of rebounds because teams ran more its a myth.......they got more rebounds because they were the best two rebounders who ever lived.....again its the same 24 second clock

Bill Russell was the equivalent of what Pete Sampras was to tennis. The best turn on and turn off player. Pete would lose or play horribly to guys like George Bastl but when it came to Andre Agassi, Pete turned it on. Bill was the same way, Walter Dukes or Swede Holbrook, he dragged but Wilt, he turned on. Unlike other players, it never cost him championships.

😂🤣are you kidding me. After watching this B.S., what do you think his stat lines were. For that game it was 32 rebounds, 25 points and 1 assist. For the series it was 24 rebounds, 22 points and 4 assist per game. One of his best series ever for a finals, and they didn’t count his blocks. This is the footage they put together. Sam jones had 22 points and no assist with 5 rebounds in that game. John Havlicek had 16 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assist. Tom Sanders had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assist. Don Nelson 8, 8, and 2. K. C. Jones was 5,2, and 3. Jerry West was 36 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assist . The way that video was edited you thought he scored 60. He is a point guard with 3 assist in a game seven. Now you tell me who was the finals Mvp? Even though they didn’t have it that year.😂🤣

Elgin Baylor was considered washed-up during the regular season but averaged 26 14 and 3 in this series. Led his team in rebounding and second in scoring and assists. This Laker team over-achieved.
@43msd
@43msd Жыл бұрын
No they didn’t. Boston over achieved. They had two players that had been kicked out of the league. No Cousy, Sharman, or Tom Heinshon. Havlicek nor Sam jones matched Jerry West or Elgin Baylor. Bill had to score , rebound, assist, block , steal and defend all 5 positions on the floor, without fouling out. He had 25 points, 32 rebounds and 1 assist for that game. 22 points, 27 rebounds and 4 assist for the series. You couldn’t tell by that video. He and Wilt were too fast, and the league played way too fast for anyone playing from the mid 70’s til today.👌

@joncheskin 9 жыл бұрын
As good as the Celtics of this era are, their hall of famers would be mediocre rotation guys today. At 6 9 220 Russell could be a decent backup power forward, although with little offensive game. Havlicek at 6 5 would be too small to play the swing position he plays on this team, would probably be a backup shooting guard. Satch Sanders, a 6 6 power forward in 1965, would be completely dominated by today's physical specimens inspired by the likes of Karl Malone and Tim Duncan. Perhaps only Sam Jones, a 6 4 shooting guard, would have the suitable physical makeup for the modern game.

WOW! I've learnt something else to make the 60's an even worse era than it was. A 2 point ball game ... in game 7 of the NBA finals and the foul to save time strategy wasn't invented! Bill Russell's 11 championships are worthless! NO STRATEGY, 10 - 15 GAMES TO WIN IT ALL, NO FREE AGENCY TO BEGIN WITH, HE HAD 5 OR 6 OF THE TOP 20 PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE, THE GREATEST COACH OF ALL TIME, THE LEAGUE WAS WHITE AND SO ON .. IT'S ANNOYING, RUSSELL IS NOT AN ELITE NBA LEGEND!

In this footage, Russell grabs 5 out of 36 rebounds, it gets confusing because in the middle part of the tape is replayed like 3 times. Russell's legacy is too overrated, he had no offensive ability, had an amazing team, his defense was not anywhere near as dominant as made out to be, and there were so many rebounds, 25rpg in 45+ mpg in those days, is not as good as 15rpg today. He was nowhere near one of the most productive or dominant players of all time.

rex waller Wow you and that other guy are total morons, You guys think because you live in this era that everything is better, what makes you think the game wasn't as good back then? There were so many great players, Wilt Chamberlain, the most dominant scorer, the game has ever seen, Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, John Havlicek, Sam Jones, KC Jones, Bob Petitt, todays game is so watered down and not as good fundamentally, the players back then could play the game so clean, they were so much smarter, handiling the ball, passing, rebounding, scoring, defending, the teams back then could run the players off the court now because they could run all game long, they played so many minutes every game, the players now are babied too much, give them all pacifiers, lol
@RatedRex1

@@Mrd9960 I lived in that era, too. I saw many of the legends live, as a kid. But I don't pretend I see something that isn't there. The truth is: most of the teams did fold or move during Russell's era. Only the Celtics and the New York Kicks survived. Most of the players aren't nearly as skilled as the players now. There is a whistle every minute. So the players got to rest while all the free-throw were shot. These players would have a hard time beating today's college teams. All you have to do is acknowledge what you see, right before your eyes. If you want to gush romantically about the days of your, then that's your business. but don't get mad at me because admit what I see.
