For those wondering, It’s illegal-ish: Last year, the California governor signed a bill making it illegal for the police to arrest these women for loitering (standing around) for the purpose of prostitution. That is why the women openly and blatantly stand around in beach wear 24/7 and advertise and the Police CANNOT mess with them JUST FOR STANDING OR WALKING AROUND!!! Of course we all know why they standing around, BUT without legal proof, they are safe to stand around…. HOWEVER, if the women were to make a deal with an undercover cop, then that’s actual solicitation (prostitution) and they can face legal action for that…. Indecent exposure is displaying an actual sexual body part in public; technically, these women are wearing bikinis, but their actual nipples and ‘lower level lips’ aren’t showing so they’re okay legally speaking….

I think that what makes the idea of prostitution so fascinating is that as an adolescent boy, you want to be with girls so badly. Then you see this way that even the prettiest girl is perfectly fine with being with you, and she's not going to demand anything else from you that maybe you're not interested in. Of course, I think it's all way too shallow and I don't trust the infection vectors that are evident but still, in a basic way it seems like a great idea.

Your camera work is beautiful but the content is depressing. I've travelled to LA quite a few times from the early 70s until 2013 all the way from Australia. The decay just seemed to get worse each time I was there but this latest stuff is a new low. If you had travelled these streets in the '50s and '60s they would have been clean, prosperous and with no street prostitution. The Reagan and globalisation happened and the corporations born in the USA screwed their own native country over. So sad...so bloody sad!

Sad and startling at the same time to see prostitution taking place in such an overt manner - in broad daylight. Are the police in LA generally tolerant of that kind of thing. The women in the video appear quite brazen and fearless but, at the same time, desperate.

Law passed about a year ago or so that made loitering legal. So they can stand there. The sex act for money is illegal but cops cant lock them up or harass them for just standing on the corner talking to people in passing cars. It would require a sting operation to wait and follow them etc. They usually get out in a few hrs any way. Not worth it to the city... so in a way LA kind of legalized prostitution.
