La Conquistada was written en Argentine in 1975, after Los Jaivas had to leave the country during the dictatorship. So the lyrics means that the woman that not exist anymore is Santiago de Chile, after the democracy was destroyed. All the song is a symbolism.

"Dictablanda", las dictaduras no entregan el poder, como Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua Korea del Norte, etc...Los Jaivas no fueron perseguidos. Yo los fui a ver en un concierto en los Andes, en plena dictablanda en 1974, yo tenía 17 años.

Callate sacowea chupafusil. Entregaron el poder después de robarse todo, venderse entre ellos las empresas del estado, asegurar la constitución con un plebiscito trucho y pa peor convocaron a elecciones después de las masivas protestas desde el 85 con propaganda mentirosa de que los comunistas acá y allá, y perdieron. Ni después de matar, torturar y exiliar a miles de personas. Los jaibas no fueron perseguidos eso es cierto. Pero hablar de dictablanda solo deja en claro el weon ignorante y chupaluma que eres. Ojalá que nunca vayas al primer mundo a decir lo mismo o pensaran que todos los chilenos somos simios limítrofes.

For the understanding of the lyrics: Eduardo Parra wrote it when they were on the the self-imposed exile during Pinochet's dictatorship. Eventually, if they stayed in Chile, they could have been persecuted by the regime, like Víctor Jara. Anyways, the "she" that doesn't exist anymore is the Cordillera de los Andes, the great mountain range that it's very present in chileans life, because Eduardo started to both missing and forgeting about it when they were out of Chile.

The Jaivas are the musical gods of Chile and a good part of the continent. That being said, I recommend other national ones such as "Congreso" other great ones in this case of Jass Fusion with folklore Also Inti Illimani that fuse traditional and instrumental music from practically all continents. Or a good task is to compare the original interpretations of Violeta Parra (author and famous singer of Chile) with the works of those same songs by the Jaivas or the other groups mentioned.

That’s the origin of the name. They started as a cover band in events called The HighBass, and played songs of the American and English rock. When started to make their own music with a Latin folk influence they “spanished” their name to Los Jaivas. (With v because Jaiba is a crab)
