Mines like 169/90 on a good day and 190/110 +on a bad day and now as I have a kidney stent waiting for lazer in 11 more days im in extreame pain..I took 50mg losartan 1 time a day helped a bit but from today I take 50 mg x 2 daily see if it helps..if I get 145/85 I'm extreamly happy

my doctor told me that while on telmisartan same family as losartan..... do not EVER eat bananas , kale, spinach , no Milk , no yogurt, no baked beans, no salads, while on this medication, as the medication itself raises potassium! so now i am forced to eat all junk for the rest of my life. Unreal. can anyone let me know if this is true or not? do i need to cut out ALL healthy foods and eat junk food only? thank you!

Hi, i've been taking losartan for almost 6 months now and my doctor just told me to cut the 25 mg into two, it's like 12.5 every morning. Is that okay?

Recently my wife and I were prescribed this medicine. I seem to tolerate it just fine. My wife has a very bad cough sense taking it. She coughs very hard and raspy sounding. I fear it sounds like she has pneumonia or could easily turn into pneumonia. My wife has complained to her Doctor about this and the Doctor's response is for her to take Clairton or some other OTC meds. I don't think that this approach to my wife's coughing is very professional, Take a pill to counter-act the pill that the Doctor prescribed. I'm sure that there are other prescription meds that achieve the same results without the serious cough. Is there anything or any suggestions that could do to help us?

@@jackburton4892 Hi Jack. For openers I never had nor still ever have HBP in my life. It's always normal and when I'm sick it goes a tad low. Also, heart disease does NOT run anywhere in my family and I do genealogy, so I know. What caused my massive heart attack was one of my arteries was blocked. Dr. never told me blocked with what so it could have been cholesterol (although my numbers were excellently normal) or with calcium. I read that sometimes it just happens because I lived a long time and it just happens, no rhyme nor reason. Luckily my boy friend saved my life and called 911 as I could not do it due to passing out a few times. Also I was lucky as the hospital is 3 minutes away from my house so my heart suffered no damage whatsoever. Dr. said he was shocked that my heart in the end was so strong. heh. Takes a lot to kill me. Feel free to message me if you want...ps. I am not taking any cholesterol pills or blood thinning pills. The Dr. is pissed off at me over that fact ...

On the 50 mg dose 3 weeks in and experiencing daytime fatigue...not severe, but enough to make a nap necessary, and dragging the rest of the day. Does the fatigue disapate?

Epistaxis (the medical term for a nosebleed) occurs in less than 1% of people taking losartan, I'd see if your health care provider would change you to a different medication and see if the nosebleeds resolve.

Torsemide is a diuretic (water pill) and it causes the body to loose potassium. The potassium loss with torsemide is greater than the potassium retention with losartan. Most people taking torsemide and losartan will need potassium supplementation. It is generally monitored via labs and I'd encourage people to discuss it with their health care provider and ensure there potassium levels are in normal range.

Jason Johnson i read a similar post on another losarten site and it made me laugh alot, to the point i couldn't even type my comment. My hand was shaking from laughing. Anyway, thanks for the laugh. I am on Losarten for like it seems forever, at least 5 years. I get cramps on feet, ankles, go pee too often, because Losarten forces kidneys to work. Have lower back pain. Blood pressure is always around 110/69. When i go to doctor's office it seems to always go high like 155/88. Go figure? Get little headaches too. Anyway thanks for the laugh.

There was a small rat study in 2012 that shows turmeric can increase losartan levels. The dose of tumeric was much larger than one would get from a cup of tea. This is the risk with supplements, there are no large controlled studies investigating potential interactions. I still think the tea would be ok for most people. Many people on blood pressure medications consume tumeric on a regular basis without any issues. However, if you are concerned it is best to ask your health care provider and report any side effects.

Why provide a video that tells us the same information that drug labels and every website tells us? Tell us something different, more, or give color. Example: if potassium supplements are bad then why, how much, and "what is bad". Example: if this might cause kidney issues then in what % of the patients is this true, what is the effect, how severe can it be?

Is it true that losartan(arbs) decrease your metabolism? I'm a 19 year old. Been taking 50mg dosage once daily for 1.5 years now. I do feel sluggish in the morning as I take it at night. However, I feel like I have put on a lot of weight since using this medicine. But it can also be due to weight training or eating in a caloric surplus or whatever but the truth is I look like a skinny fat at the moment and at this point I'm kinda convinced that my metabolism is distributed and that this drug is the culprit. I can't find any reports of weight gain with losartan. I found a small mouse study of telmisartan (a different arb) and it actually reduced obesity. However, you could ask your doctor to switch to a different medication and see if there is any change in your weight.

Read the insert that your pharmacist gets. Studying out for yourself. You'll notice that solmonese is a side effect. That can/ does definitely impact on energy you expend. Also myalgia, also in my case makes you feel like not exercising. Listen to your body and notice what it does and how it responds. If it seems to you like you've gained weight on it I would treat it as such. When I read that insert I saw too many things that I didn't like that the doctors weren't looking out for. I am now treating my high blood pressure with diet and other natural things like potassium and magnesium. I now have an ideal blood pressure of 120 over 60 at 67 years of age.

Arizona John, way back in 2011 or 2012, I was on Lisinopril for about 3 months. I had this constant dry cough, to the point that I got larangistis and had to go to the emergency room. My throat was so swollen I couldn't breath. I sounded like a dieing cow. E.R. have me a breathing treatment it worked wonders. It was Albuterol and saline. Anyway, the next day I went to doctor's office and he prescribe Diovan. Diovan hurt my kidneys. Than doc.prescribe amlodipine5mg. Doc.told me that 5 percent of population get cough with Lisinopril. So u fall in the 5percent of population who get the dry cough. Good luck.

I forgot to add another big symptom of Losartan that I have - shortness of breath sometimes, especially when having stomach and back pain -even before doing any activity. Tingly toes and toe padding under feet might be some damage already, possibly from another BP medication.
