Nice one Cliffy, I saw Ian Puckeridge do this many moons ago and have done it to most of my shafts. Although I don’t bend out the tip. I use a file to sharpen from the underside. This creates the same effect but less effect on the trajectory of the shaft…. At least in my head anyways! Another thing is tuning the flopper so it locks open. I see loads of shafts that flap around which has caused loads of lost fish no doubt.

Tony Heugh showed me how to do it a few years ago after I complained about the shaft pulling straight out of a fish with a well tuned flopper. It works a treat. I guess a lot of the old comp divers might be doing the same thing?

I will be doing this from now on! Great vid

Thanks mate! Hopefully it helps

That's an awesome idea, I haven't lost a fish for awhile due to that reason but I have in the past. I reckon I'm going to start doing that.

I have lost a few good fish like that. Big Spanish mackerel one time😪

@@DownDeep worst feeling. When I first started I shot 3 coral trout on my first trip north and all 3 pulled. I went home not knowing what I did wrong. So for the next 6 months I would shoot fish and chase them down underwater and carry them to the surface 😂😂😂

Glad you got something out of it mate and thanks for the sub! Will be doing more little tips tricks in the future

Thank you, I find tuning floppers a nightmare and I know they are so.important to have right. I think what youve described makes sense. I'm going to.try it, I wonder why they come so rounded. I think your style flopper would give the shaft less deflection on the way towards that PB Morwong too. It needs a name...Deep Down Barb..or something

For tuning your flopper, pinch the end with a pair of pliers. It's so much easier than a hammer!

Haha, you can name it after Tony Heugh. He was the legend who showed me. I think the cresi spears come with a sharp point on the flopper to.

Thanks for the awesome video. Does this mod go alright when trying to back the spear out of a fish after braining and bleeding? Does it get caught much?
@DownDeep9 ай бұрын
You are welcome mate🙂 It's really easy, you just need to twist the spear as you are pulling it out. Twisting the spear holds the flopper closed as you pull it out

Wouldn't have to muck around to do it owning a RIFFE gun, RIFFE floppers ain't flat like those Rob Allen floppers, Best Shafts Bud RIFFE 👍

I have never used a RIFFE, I wonder if the RIFFE shafts will fit in the Aimrite Mech. sharpening the flopper is really easy, only takes about 5 minutes. not to much of an inconvenience.
