In this video we unbox the Losi Lasernut and go over what comes in the box. We also take the 10th scale Rock Runner out and test it on 4s. Given the build of the scale replica, we attempt to put the car through its paces as it was intended to be used. Then we go over the results and give our final thoughts on this Losi branded 10th scale rock racer. This is the first 10th scale Losi I've purchased in more than a decade, and it felt good to finally bring one home. Come along as I yank the box open and get to the bottom of the mystery that is the Tenacity platform Lasernut. AJ

LOL seriously? thats almost 550 dollars for this piece of junk I can name many, but I will name just one: bascially exactly the same car underneath for much less money and tons more fun and reliability: Tenacity DB Pro. When you do research, you would automatically dismiss the Lasernut and go for the OG, wich is the Tenacity DB Pro. Unless you would use the Lasternut as a shelfqueen because you like how it resembles the real thing, but who buys these as a shelfqueen anyway lol

I have a TRX4 Defender, it really needs some work, it has no micro servos, front is locked open, rear locked, locked in high gear because it won't go into in low, the spur gear is munted, the electrics were fried the first puddle it hit :), one shock sticks ughh, I replaced the electrics with the Hobbywing 1800 and Radiolink RC6GS and guess what? It's still drives just great and I love it, even though it's at 30% capable. Going into the shop soon. Next car, the Traxxas Slash 4x4 Ultimate (the lads race those). Then the Losi Lasernut, this this thing looks awesome :)

Hi all my Lasernut is wicked and is my favorite in my collection to date, great car but you need to maintain it regularly as I do my others. Some mods I have done to mine is to modify the nose, which keeps jamming behind bumper after topples lol. I trimmed nose back so it is only 1/2 inch long and fitted bumper from a DB pro which looks alot better also fitted wing and frame from DB pro which fits on with a little adjustment. Other than that all standard. Cheers

The E-revo is fast and brutal but has some suspension weaknesses such as the rear alignment turnbuckles. I would look into that before making your selection, however the UDR is not perfect either. I do not have a Revo in my collection but I’ve researched it and have some idea of it’s weaknesses. If that is the type of car you want I say get it, but the UDR is so damn cool to watch run, see the UDR brutal review for more on that. It really comes down to which car speaks to you. Both are fast. Both are fun. Both have strong and weak points. The choice has to be yours. I recommend research before you buy. KZbin is filled with content on this matter. Best of luck. AJ 😎👍

Put it on the shelf and move one. That or spend minimum $500 on top of purchase cost to get it to hold up. Don't even try 3s on the stock diff cases.

I ran each side by side and 2s had better acceleration and top speed. And nothing broke or wore out fast. 3s front and back diff pinion bearings went and front cups had to be flipped too soon.

lol funny guy, than you havent ridden the DB Pro, its the same car, bash that and bash the lasernut equally and the lasernut will be the first to have failing parts because of one major and obvious thing: its sheer size. Its bigger, heavier and has bigger wheels, yet the whole gearing and shafts are exactly the same as the much more smaller and therefore more nimble Tenacity DB Pro. But yeah, you go ahead and think you made a good purchase, I'll keep having fun with my Tenacity. Losi just tricked you and you fell into it.

I went with DB Pro, per LHS suggestion. Has the 130A 4S ESC. I'm gonna go 4S motor, and the new 662 Servo, and go heavier shock oil, and yes go heavier on Diff fluid...Should handle 4S well. I say this due to metal driveshafts. If the PLASTIC SLIDERS in current 4S kraton / Outcast can handle 4S, surely METAL can.

Hmm I have a tenacity db pro with an upgraded leopard 3670 2400kv motor, run it on 4s with belted badlands. I nuked one or two center diffs until I added 100k center fluid. In my experience the buggy was prone to diffing out, heating up the diff fluid and in my case melted the center diff. 100k diff fluid has fixed it for me. Also lost a rear diff bearing might be user error for not lubing the bearings after mud/water use. These were pretty good for sct racing, can't tell you how high I've sent this thing. Kind of a 1/8 buggy in disguise just slightly weaker driveline.

Sad to admit it but you simply can't argue with idea that once you've gone large it makes almost everything else seem like a toy. My biggest dilemma with buying the losi baja rey 2.0 is that it will diminish the enthusiasm I have for my 1/10 scale trucks. I already have a udr, and to some extent, am feeling that way already. :(
@AJJAMStudios
@AJJAMStudios 2 жыл бұрын
I definitely feel your pain on that subject. For the longest time I ran 10th scale cars. When I finally got into the eight scale cars, and I did have one early on but it was kind of a rough build, I discovered that the eight scale cars felt more like machines and less like toys. It’s a difficult thing, but you can keep your perspective on 10th scale if you try. The real issue for me is when I went fifth scale. Going fifth scale made that issue worse. It’s hard to find a 10 scale car in our top 10 collection but if memory serves there should be one or two: I can’t be sure. Thanks for the comment.😎👍

Awesome video. I am considering buying a Lasernut or a Mojave. Which one in your view would be best?
@AJJAMStudios
@AJJAMStudios 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, great question. Both rigs have their charms. The Mojave is very much a short course truck and big; not a bad thing. It has issues, but they are manageable. The Lasernut, on the other hand, is more of a racer. It is big for a 1/10th scale rig but smaller than the Mojave. I guess you have to ask yourself what kind of bashing you want to do and take into consideration where you plan to do it. Then, and this is, as always, my own personal view, pick the one that speaks to you. That’s how I do it. If one of them makes you smile, durable or not, imperfect or not, you picked the right one. No rc is perfect but with some patience and determination yours can be as close to perfect as can be. And by the way, I love both cars. Best of luck. AJ

Definitely the best RC review I've seen to date!. Love your style, and your production quality. I've just earned another subscriber! Really glad to see the Lasernut reviewed under real world conditions that replicate what I rock racer should be able to do, rather than the hard core bashers "sending" it off or huge jumps over and over. It's a rock racer, not a stunt truck, after all. I've been researching this buggy for a while now, and really like it, but... Yeah, I get it, anything can fail due to a manufacturing defect. However, yours is a sample of one, and I have seen a great many reports of differential failures on these vehicles, which leads me to suspect either a QC issue in final assembly (improperly setup and shimmed) and/or inferior metals used in the diff gears. With that said, what diff fluids did you settle on for yours? And will the heavier fluid really work to mitigate the high failure rates I've been seeing? Not sure I could give such a high durability rating after fragging 2 center diffs in such a short period of time... And you didn't lose a wheel... Another seemingly common problem with wheel nuts loosening and stripping out the wheel hex. Multiple owners have replaced wheels multiple times Especially the left rear. I REALLY want this vehicle. But, I'm having a hard time justifying it when nine out of ten reviews I have seen have had several issues.
@AJJAMStudios
@AJJAMStudios 2 жыл бұрын
The inner gears of the center diff looked a bit wonky when I dug into them. Still, they function, to some extent the do anyway. My resolution was to earplug the diff and severely minimize the diff's rotational quality. That seemed to be a fix in the short term. The vehicle overall has good durability, but off the hook driving can still destroy it, as it actually should. For the most part, the Lasernut is a pretty cool vehicle, and the loss of a diff only speaks to one part of the overall durability factor. Since the video was released, I've broken one hub-carrier in the rear (my fault completely), and I've had one wheel issue. I found switching to a smaller tire set and adding a wing, after removing the spare tire of course, helps with handling and the durability. Compared to some of the other cars in our collection the Lasernut is stronger than some (mostly 10th scale) but weaker than others (mostly the 1/8th scale and larger cars). That being said, if you're thinking of getting one, be ready to inspect the center diff straight away. Keep it off the ramps, unless you have a soft type of area to land it in, and use the way it was intended to be used, (it really isn't much of a basher). If you do that it should be a great rig. By the way, with a tire change, it really does rip on the oval track. Of course, the choice is, as always, yours. best of luck. AJ

@@AJJAMStudios Thanks for the reply and update. Big air is NOT on the agenda, and while I think that perhaps the Lasernut would suit my intent just fine, I still may wait for a V2 to see if maybe they'll make some improvements in the areas that seem to be consistently problematic... Or... Maybe I'll just pick up a Tenacity DB pro instead... Oddly enough, I don't see many complaints of issues on them as compared to the Lasernut. It does have smaller wheels, and is only 3S rated rather than the 4S rating carried by the Lasernut, both of which should reduce some of the stress from the driveline and increase durability of those components... Not like I "need" another care anyway. But, you know how that is... Take care.

Silicone ear plugs. They are soft and malleable, plus they lock things down pretty well. Also, you can mix them with your lube, to a certain extent, which gives you tunability. I'm working a video right now to show how that may be achieved. Thanks for the comment. AJ

@AJJAMStudios
@AJJAMStudios 3 жыл бұрын
There may be a few, but I'm not privy to all of them. For me, the Lasernut is a great car. It is definitely not perfect, but it is a great runner. The radio is waterproof right out of the box with no need of a radio box, and the extra tire fixed to the rear is a usable tire. Being 10th scale, it is surprisingly big for the scale. It runs out good but, as you've probably seen in the video, I did have an issue with the center diff. However, after locking the diff up, the car has not failed me yet. It's fast, stable, and flies great. Losi has always built excellent cars, I've raced them for over a decade, and I have to tell you, this little monster rocks. However, as always, the choice has to be yours. Get one in your hands, peel it open, and see if it speaks to you. If it excites you, you have the right car. Best of luck on your decision. PS, please let me, know what you decided to do, and post updates once in a while. I value your opinion. AJ

It’s great that you were able to repair the gears etc. but it’s not a good reflection on it to break your first 2 runs after paying good money. I’ve been looking at the Losi’s but I’m definitely thinking ok every Rc has a weakness but any drivetrain issues leave you dead in the water & I don’t see many doing any of the repairs you did bottom line. So are those just overpriced great looking RC’s or they just have that one flaw. I just want to have fun using it not tearing it apart to fix that issue every few runs that’s just ridiculous. Is this the only model having this issue is a bigger question because if it’s in all of them then there’s a bigger issue quality control. That’s not my feeling though I’m still looking at them but ya no thanks if I’m working on the drivetrain all the time.
@AJJAMStudios
@AJJAMStudios 2 жыл бұрын
That's a real concern. But...I've beaten the crap out of that car since the video and the repairs I put into it definitely held up. The drivetrain feels solid now with the modification I put in place. I still feel there is a weakness in the center diff, but locking the thing up and shimming it seems to have worked. It jumps beautifully, and runs like crazy. I have broken some other parts, but, I have to point out, that it's because of my driving style and not the car itself. For me, I would get another one if I blew this one up, it's that much fun to drive. It handles in high traction, but keep in mind, I swapped out the tires and wheels for a wider stance and replaced the spare tire for a wing assembly. Over all, I would say Losi has things in check, but there is always the potential for issues with mass produced rigs, no matter who makes them. Still, the choice has to be yours. Thanks for asking, AJ
