Well, it happened. I am now bald because I lost my hair to chemotherapy. And honestly, I kind of like it! Never thought I'd say those words about my baldness but it's true! Here is the full story...

My oncologist told me I'd lose all my hair when my treatment for metastatic breast cancer started. I was probably still in shock from the diagnosis and could have cared less about my hair. I noticed after two weeks of IV chemo, my hair came out in clumps so I went and had it all shaved off which made it easier. This was over two years ago and my hair has grown back significantly but my head is still cold. I wear knit caps all the time to stay warm. It's the strangest thing.

Been there done that! It is only hair! Most women, never see the beautiful shape their heads, because of hair! You are still a woman with a beautiful mind and you are more than just chemo! 14 year survivor of: uterine, endometrial, cervical, ovarian, and Adenocarcinoma Mets on the left lung!

I’m 6 months post chemo and my hair is back to what it was….I went through summer with a bald head….at least in winter you’ll be able to wear a cap…good luck on round two and don’t forget your Claritin…. 👍❤️🙏🤗🙏

Me two. Lymphoma. Had the red devil in my chemo regime. First chemo it all fell out in 15 days just finished six rounds. R chop. Still no eye brows zero eye lashes. But if I look on the bright side have not bought razors in months 😊. You my dear express integrity n kindness thru your eyes you are a beautiful soul having this human experience. From Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 Amanda, my Warrior Friend, You are amazing! You never faltered & you took “the bull by the horns” & did what you needed to do when it came to your hair. You took a very traumatizing situation & made it somehow lighter. I was devastated when it all happened to me but knew, like you, it had to all come off. I’m now on the fast track to surgery with all my appts. (MRI/CT Scan, Oncologist followup & surgery) set up through February right down to surgery on the 28th of February 🤞🏻🙏. I am thinking of you on this journey & hoping you’ll cope well & getting through to the other side where I find myself now. Yes- having a rhythm or ritual on pre-chemo night is a great idea. I needed everything very quiet, very peaceful on the evening before chemo and morning of chemo. Good thoughts and prayers for you for strength and healing. ☺️

Shirley here I love Amanda because she doesn't want her viewers to pity her. I watch other cancer patients and one that I view won't mention her name sits around feeling sorry for herself, she starts crying they gave a go fund me account set up but they got on all kinds of trips. This women has all her body parts to. Sometimes these people scam for money it's been on you tube about that. Amanda even if she's in pain she still does stuff and pushes herself.

Dear sweet Amanda, I wish I could tell you how much your videos are helping me as I prepare to guide my daughter down the road you are already traveling. She has oral/neck cancer, squamous cell carcinoma. She will need her entire jaw removed and reconstructed, losing her tongue which will be made of other body part tissue, all of her teeth. It's going to be brutal at stage 4. She is terrified of the upcoming chemo, radiation, and possible number of years they may give her. I am heartbroken as your own family must be that life has dealt you this horrible hand to play. I wish you all the success in the world as you continue on your journey. Your strength is an inspiration.

When I began to lose my hair from chemo, I was devastated, and so afraid. I did the same things you did, cut it short, then shaved it. A few days after the shock wore off, I realized the worst was over... and I had control over atleast one small aspect of my life now: what i put on my head! So i got colorful scarves (rayon or cotton aren't slippery), fun hats, even rainbow braids to tuck inside them. I worked in a school, and was determined to be a teaching tool, so got comfortable letting kids see (and pat) my bald head. I learned to sleep with a soft blanket on top of my head, (or my cat) since it was winter in Maine. I guess what I am trying to say is that for me, the hardest part was going bald, not BEING bald, and I hope the same will be true for you. Incidentally, I have hair below my shoulders now. I just read your newsletter and watched this video and I wanted to just say how proud I am of you for writing again (still) and the added bonus was this very amazing video about your journey so far. Keep writing. Keep expressing. That is your gift to the universe and we all have so much to learn from you and your soulful and artful writing. By the way - I think you look pretty amazing with no hair! Now that I see you bald I feel like your hair (as beautiful as it was) distracted away from your enormous eyes which are beautiful and super expressive. Just my humble opinion. You're doing great Amanda and now the hair part is done! That's good to do a night before prep and ritual. I too would always make sure I had everything I needed and that things were in order. The side effects and exhaustion stink but I found just surrendering and resting into it when it got real hard helped the most. Be easy on yourself and post when it feels right to vs a schedule. Also you look pretty badass w a mohawk.

You are beautiful with or without hair. You did the right thing, cold cap is so time consuming. It is so liberating to be bald. At least you don’t have to worry about all the hair falling out and annoying you . Chemo sux ❤

Even though you are not cold packing for your hair, cold therapy for your hands and feet to prevent neuropathy can be helpful.

I had round 13 Taxol today. Weekly. I have immunotherapy every 3 weeks, I’ll have it next Friday. Stage 3 breast cancer. And it’s my 3rd diagnosis in 12 years. Some days are good (ish) but a lot suck. I sadly feel good Thursday night and Friday before 8:30 am chemo. Blood work actually is at 7-7:30 and we live an hour away. I slept through most of it today and it’s is the 3rd week that I’m just wiped out day of chemo. I used to do good the first 2-3 days. It gets harder as it goes on. I had chemo 11 years ago, even had the red devil one,,, but it’s rough this time. Last time I had it every 3 weeks, I’d have a bad week then do good the next two. I still do bad a week but now it’s weekly so there’s really no up. Lol. Shaving your hair is so powerful. The first time years ago I had a party at my doctors office after hours,,, she’s also my dear friend. Had all my best closest female family and friends, I’d bought wigs. It was awesome. This time my 11 year old, very mature granddaughter shaved it for me as it started falling out. A small warning as what’s left falls out it hurt my head both times. I finally rubbed a soft towel over it and basically buffed it out. It stopped hurting as soon as it was gone. Not horrible pain just bothersome. Feel free to reach out to me if you wanna talk. I’m having scans soon to see if the chemo is working. Another surprise, as much as I want to know, I’m terrified. Anyway sorry to jabber on. I pray for healing for you and wish you the best

Well hang in there. One time I stopped by a friend’s house that I had not seen in a bunch of months. I knocked on the front door and he answered it and we said a few little chit chat things to each other and then I said “How have things been going?” He said “Oh things are going all right” and then he followed that by saying “there is just one problem…. I have cancer.”. He looked me right in the eyes when he said that and I was amazed and comforted to see a happy twinkle in his eye when he uttered those words. It was a look that communicated to me that he was Trusting implicitly in God’s never -failing Love with what he had going on and for that reason he KNEW that in the big Picture of things “It’s all good.” He had a relationship with God going on before he got that news so that’s where that was coming from. 1. 🌬🤍You look Beautiful. I'm fighting with myself as I'm writing to you. I'm not on chemo yet! I'm doing 33 rounds of Radiation therapy and even though I'm reading 2 different things? My doctor said I will not lose my hair. But reading all the papers they give you SAY IN BLACK AND WHITE HAIR LOSS!! So I'm losing my hair every day every minute. I keep cutting and cutting I' don't know what to do. Funny I ALWAYS WANTED TO SHAVE MY HEAD. Now I'm scared!! SCARED because I don't want to look older then I already I'm 😢 Vanity Yes I care how I look even though I don't go but grocery shopping and now doctors. I'm not a big makeup fan. And I know if I shave it I'm going to need a little make up. I don't want look like a old man or woman. My heart and soul thinks I'm still 28 lol I don't have a friend or Mom 😢That I can talk about it. And have fun with it like you did. Your so Blessed to have your family by your side. I don't have any brothers or sisters 😢 Its just me and my dog who I love so much. Yes I do have a husband but he has his own issues like going to dialysis 3× week.
