Here is a much easier method for sinking foundations on a raft: 1. Make two pillars and nine foundations. (Important: If using S+, you want to use vanilla pillars instead of S+ ones.) 2. Grab the rudder (helps center your view). 3. Place one pillar basically where you placed the first foundation using the mast hole to help center it and placing the near edge of the pillar just at the near edge of the raft's front cross brace. 4. Let go of the rudder and place a second pillar at the snap point just inside the first one. 5. Pick up the first pillar and put it right back down in the same spot. 6. Do the same for the second pillar, then the first pillar again. 7. You will have now placed the first pillar a total of 3 times. At this point, remove the second pillar and place a foundation next to the first pillar. 8. You can now remove the first pillar and place the remaining foundations in a 3x3 pattern. Placing a vanilla pillar right next to another lone vanilla pillar will automatically sink the new one one snap point lower (S+ pillars do not do this, which is why you need the vanilla pillars). This means you don't have to spend time placing extra foundations or trying to find the snap point, and you don't have to rush as much to get all the extra pieces picked up before the timer expires. The pillars are sinking themselves automatically, and you only have to pick up one pillar at at time. By the time you have placed the first pillar the third time, a foundation placed next to it will be sunk to where you can just see the raft floor through the top of the foundation. This means that, after you place the remaining foundations, you will be able to access the rudder without having to leave the rudder section exposed.

An even easier way to sink the foundations is to just use a fence foundation. Line it up perpendicular to the where the mast is . This will automatically sink the foundation to the desired height on raft

Sorry forgot one important step. After placing the fence foundation perpendicular to mast with the furthest end over the mast hole. Assuming you are hiding mast. Then you place a pillar right at the mast hole or end of fence foundation. Then place a stone foundation to the right or left and walla its at the correct height. I can then place stone foundations and including where the tiller is . Just make sure you can still drive raft. Also you can extend by place thatch ceilings and then another stone foundation under that. And then pick up thatch ceiling and rinse repeat

Also one thing i learned from playing on the island is that taming a high lvl Sarco as soon as possible and have him follow my raft. Then before i go to either carno or herb island is swim on that to see if the fish god is out and if so kill it with the Sarco

I use the taming raft a LOT in my playthroughs, such a huge help! I usually build a few and place them around the island, just so i have something close. Doesn't help for the inland pens of course, but you know, you just place a few here and there in strategic locations for future needs.

Thanks so much for the content. These setbacks and showing everything really helps me to see how it can all go down easily. I just got the game a bit ago and had a few tames, but didn't realize an alpha raptor and a carno moved into my med spawn area. I tilted so hard as they completely wrecked all my tames, and killed me multiple times. It is my first playthrough, so I have no idea on anything. Seeing this is a bit therapeutic and makes me think about picking it up again. Thanks again!

As you play more Ark, you learn that the red text is inevitable and eventually you'll be (mostly) laughing it off. There will be a few tames that you won't be able to help becoming very attached to, and those will still hurt, though. Adds a lot of tension to the game and is part of what makes it great.

hey phlinger didn't know if you were aware but for building rafts if you place a wood fence foundation then snap a pillar to it the first floor you go to place will snap perfectly level with the raft.

Phlinger, dude, what a cruel development. I know it's a lot slower for gathering metal, but there's a TON of river rocks over by and around the red obelisk area. I started a new playthrough and as soon as I got a raft, I headed over there to mine every river rock in the area, slowly building up my metal stockpile and even making a ton of spark powder. I've been camping there for days with my raft refinery, and I don't even have an anky to help out. Just been picking until I'm full and walking it back until I've got enough spark powder to fill up three mortars. Got a couple hundred metal ingots in the smithy as well.

In my experience, Herbivore Island is Ground Zero for Leedsicthys. I have a forge base there and I see Leeds every time I visit it. One day there were 3 of them scattered around the island. A few have even been washed up on the shore. Love to see them but not to have them play tag with me.

@Phlinger Phoo: I usually use the hill in the south centerish area of the island for early game metal if you want I can take a screenshot for you of the location or drop the co-ords for you. That being said before the Leeds was added I used to run with some other players mainly solo players on a PvP server we'd link our ships up with catwalks to create a floating town to trade and chill out I dread to think what a Leeds would of done to that.

I use dino gates for 3 sides of the taming pen on a raft to cut down on items towards the build limit.

I'm sure you know there's a way to enclose the raft so you're protected. The only down side is it can make steering the raft wonky. When they first added the Leeds my nephew was like "hey what's that, let's take a shot at it. yeaaaaah, that was bad. We never made it back from Herbo island with the raft full of metal ore.

I KNEW it was going to be an alpha leeds. You know how I knew?? Because I've been killing leeds' for MONTHS trying to get an alpha to spawn so I can do the Alpha tek cave. Its the only thing I have left to find. What I also find amazing is that I tooled around like a Harvard sophomore in his sailboat on the bay forever on the island before I even knew that leeds were a thing. I didn't lose a raft until I had a big raft build with half a dozen resource dinos on it and was in the north waters. At night. It was a little sporty.

I just watched a video on what scientists have been recently discovering about Dilos and it’s frustrating ark went the route they did. Dilos were actually closer to the size of how raptors are in the game, I don’t know why Ark made them so small? It would be so fun to ride them!

Because a huge portion of the Ark fan base grew up on the Jurassic Park series of movies. Same reason the raptors honk at each other. The dilo even from book to movie in JP got changed extensively to suit the one scene it was in.

While steering the raft, place a wood pillar, but keep it green. When you move forward, the pillar will automatically line up dead center at the front of the raft. Then place it. You can then place a thatch foundation on either front corner, which will snap. From there, it's easy with a wood pillar and thatch foundations to work them down. Switch to stone foundation with the last deck level. It's quick and guaranteed square with the raft itself. 😉

I know this is an old series but for any newer player that’s watching this episode… if you see that river with the mountain on the other side I suggest running slightly up that mountain (watch ever step, loads of argies, raptors,sabers) all but argies , rexs can be bola’d. Boom decent land mount and some metal…. I say this with 6k hours under my belt so if you’re new just take it slow… remember run speed and parachutes are your friend!!!!

Just a short trip over a river to the Northwest of it is a mountain with fairly low threat level and PLENTY of Metal Nods. I go there with my Argent and Anky all the time, and always crawl back to base happily overencumbered with Metal.

There's a disgusting amount of rich metal just a hop skip and a jump across the river, in the jungle on the north side of Far's Peak (the one you call Giga Mountain). Good enough to take on the Sabers and Scorps with a Raptor, but you can do everything easily with a Carno. Lots of Anky and Argents around to tame too.

I never chance rafts anymore other than just moving about rivers on maps. Ocean travel just isn't worth it with Leeds out there. Not only did you almost get bit on the way there by the not alpha (you can see it near herbivore island after the alpha attack), but you found the alpha on your way back. My first metal run is usually always on an argy. I find some way to get one, and even if I don't have a saddle for it, I use it to haul the metal back. I've done the ptera/argy train before to get my first metal run done.

Lol of course the raft got blown to bits. Like you said par for the course for this season. Might be easier to get an iguanadon and use that as a mule. Then head up to giga mountain. The southern slopes have some good areas to get in and get out. I once had a base in your area and that's what I did until I could get an argy.

Once you get that argent fleet up you can make a killing over on metal mountain. I take about 5 argents with all points going towards weight and my anky and load up. I have loaded up an industrial forge at hidden lake using this method . I have my multipurpose argy that I use to clear out any nasties first

Phlinger next time you build a raft use a fence foundation and line it up to the sail so that one end is perfectly in the middle of the raft then put a pillar on that end. Put a regular stone foundation around the pillar then destroy the pillar and fence foundation and voila perfectly lowered foundations

If you want to extend your raft further/make it bigger, just put down a ceiling next to the floor you want to extend, then snap a floor tile under the ceiling, and delete the ceiling. It's not unlimited (can only put the ceilings out so far), but you can get it a LOT bigger than normal.

I was filled with early game hopes and dreams...and then a stupid, overgrown, white fish crushed it all! :D Nothing to do afterward but exactly what you did: laugh at the bad luck, pick yourself back up, and continue on. Though if Greg had died, I would have had to fight back tears! ;)

Fortunately, leeds are genereally very passive, unless they've sighted a raft. They are so passive, survivors and creatures can strip chunks of fish meat off them, and the leedsichthys will not react at all.

Totally didn't know they had baby dinos. On Ark mobile I watched a raptor sized carno attack a turtle. Thought it was a raptor so I was gone murterize it but I saw it had 2 spikes coming out its head and realized real quick that it was a baby carno
