If you have not left for the Caribbean yet ,You could do what Sailing Yacht Florence did on EP 7 - 10 and sail to the Cape Verde then on to Caribbean Islands .

You should stay in Tenerife until March to give you time to sort out your boat and get some needed rest and have some fun , Also see all the island in your own .

Water for crossing..... with the size of your family, basically 4 adults, yes adults Largo (LOL) , estimate between being able to cycle between 4 litres per day per person for consumption and then whatever for washing and toilets (if you have flush toilets). As for petrol, that all depends on the efficiency of our motor. In calculating, take an estimate of how far you have to travel and add on 20%. Next, calculate that you may have to motor 60% of that distance and go from there. At the end of your journey you may be surprised that you have more fuel left in reserve that expected but more is better than less.

Love you guys! Have fun on the island! as far of gas, you're good, and on water I would count 15 gallons/person/per day, but you have a watermaker, so you can reduce that weight! Make sure to service it before you jump on that passage!

It was probably fuel because the diesel especially has lots of trash in it and it’s really hard on filters & engines. Some are adding extra filters too. You should maybe Google the average per person water usage but... it seems like it’s a gallon a day. Doesn’t seem like enough to me though!

Interestingly, there's a Camino de Santiago de Tenerife, I guess starting at Puerto Santiago > Santiago del Teide > across the island > Realejo Alto > San Cristobal de Laguna > Santa Cruz de Tenerife > Ferry to Cádiz or Huelva > Sevilla > Via de la Plata. (or San Cristobal > Tenerife airport > etc) You don't need a new phone, just a bigger SD chip.

I am surprised that you kept your engine on the dinghy for a long crossing. In my opinion that is looking for serious problems.Check with the oldies(sailors)they will explain why.

Diesel: what’s your average mpg (kpl) motor only? Are you heading straight across or towards Brazil (equator) and coasting up to Caribbean? (Longer but easier if you get the conditions {I believe})

B.T.W. .................... Watching some of my favorite video's today and one point struck me like a 2 x 4 upside the head. Safety and know and understand your limitations. You guys are going to love this suggestion................ Fire Drills to be announced by one of you at the worst time possible. Actual fires do you that way. Pick a name out of the hat for that day. One a day for each of you to choose and not all during the day. Kitchen fires most common, clothes dryer next, electrical panel and engine compartment/fuel system. four drills ... four different areas .. after action discussions most important. NEXT.................. This is your first cruise from one side to the other..... MAN OVERBOARD DRILLS with each and every one of you in the water... Same names in the hat and one calls the drill and the second name goes into the water. Rotate till all have their chance to go in. In the military we trained and got wet, cold, mad as hell then figured out how to warm up and survive. Only when all of you appreciate on what it's like to be cold, wet and scared, then see how long it takes to warm up will you be able to be more seriously. Hypothermia sets in rather quickly. Talking and experiencing it are two different thingies. We bring you into our homes and you're considered friends. People from around the world watching and laughing with (??) you at times but following none the less. We want you as prepared and safe as possible ..... Bottom Line , Final Answer........ enjoy

But dont leave you out board motor on your small boat , Put it some where on the CAT to be safe you dont want to lose the motor and your small boat at sea this time guys .

hmmmm I think it might actually be feasible for you guys to hike the Camino de Santiago de Tenerife, from Puerto Santiago to Friendship and beyond, before embarking on your crossing. If and only if Sentry is OK in that scenario ... It's a very short Camino route, leading anyway towards both your home and your destinations, and instead of my previous suggestions to this effect, I think this one is better concieved. If anyway just to be better grounded before your passage. And you can't be all work and no play !! Especially not Avalon !! It's 115K so 5-7 days or so, which is not nothing, but it would be a great Pilgrim farewell to Europe (yes the Canaries are by exception techically European not African -- so Hooray !! another European country !! -- Lemonade will never die.) Please walk it. And frankly, I'm worried about this winter crossing project. Of course, you likely know better than I do ...

Everytime i hear the name Tenerife, all i can think about was the greatest aircraft disaster when two jumbo jets colided on the runway in the 70's. All due to an impatient pilot and an intimidated copilot. Sad.

Corporate censorship seriously annoys me. So -- link to useful hiking stuff. First three letters map ; fourth y. then a dot. After that c, then z. 100% free.
