Captain, the smile on your face while hiking with dad, was the best part of this!

Congrats on toughing out your first (too long) day, Will, after several months of desk work! 👏 I’m so blown away by Largo (Captain). He is the most positive, optimistic, and encouraging young man! All bests, very few worsts. We could all take a lesson from him. Suggestions for your summer hiking: a cooler hiking hat that shades you from the sun; wet your hair to cool yourself; no black clothes; snack or ‘graze’ instead of having a heavier mid-day meal (eg cereal bars, trail mix, crackers and cheese, oranges, etc). And in an ideal world, start slow! 😂

Nice that Will has this chance to spend time walking with Captain. But it's not great that Jessica had to take this time out. I hope the rest helps you with tendonitis. Wishing you all the best. Since I don't comment often, I wish a very happy birthday to Avalon and the apartment search coming up.

Will keep taking the time. While I absolutely love the daily blogs, I’d love it more if you took the time to hike with your family. A few breaks in the daily blogs is a small price to pay if it allows you to join Captain and Sunshine on the trail more often. (So hard to call them by their trail names after watching for years). Like you said in the video, you will never get this time back. Great job hiking on your first day out. I can’t imagine doing that many miles, and I love hiking.

Will...18 miles on the first day...when you haven't been hiking, is very good. More than most do...no use risking injury by trying to "blow the doors off" too early on.

Loved seeing you two hiking together. I know you’ve done this already but give yourself some grace, the fact that you did that many miles on your 1st day, an hadn’t been hiking in months, plus in a heat wave, is nothing short of amazing. The majority of the other hiker’s couldn’t/didn’t do that on their 1st day. Your videos are some of my favorites of the trail, with the editing an music, it just moves you. Happy hiking!

You're so right about the importance of spending quality time like this with your kids at this age. When my daughter was 15, we were fortunate enough to be able to spend three months on the road in an RV traveling around the states. We only had the opportunity because we lost our home in a big wildfire. I wouldn't trade that time for anything. Doing great, dad!
