You might want to also point out that not ALL "burlap" looking fabrics around trees ARE natural burlap. They are instead a woven plastic material and that stuff NEEDS to be removed. Also point out that leaving the burlap on does not mean leave it around the trunk and sticking up out of the ground.

I recently went to a nursery and saw a Red Bud Tree called Flame Thrower. It is gorgeous. It's autumn tone leaves of red and green, and chartreuse is spectacular. It maintains these colors in season! Total show stopper. Have you seen one?

Thanks for sharing this video Jenny. It shows that everyone’s garden can have a plant or plants that die out. This summer so far, I had to replace some plants. It does open the door to see what other flowers/shrubs are out there. Love your videos! Keep up the fantastic work ❤

As I've always said, if you garden long enough (usually doesn't take too long 😉) then you're going to loose plants. While discouraging, it also opens doors to new plants to add to the garden!

We are seeing our beautiful roses go under, not from heat or lack of water, but from an invasion of Lanternfly nymphs. A few flies were seen for the first time in our zone 7/8 area last year. If you thought that Japanese Beetles were bad, you haven't experienced the Lanternfly. I saw a few on our hydrangeas yesterday, too.

I have been fighting lantern flies for the last couple years. Made me crazy! What I have done is remove and squish what I can. Any trees I used catch master tape to go around each tree. Catching them before they mature is key. Once adults they lay eggs and it’s almost impossible to kill with any spray. 😊

Friends, need some advice. I have a hydrangea that is planted too low and it’s showing stress of course. It’s just started blooming so my question is, should I go ahead and give her a lift, or wait until it starts to go to sleep in fall? I’m nervous it won’t make it until fall so maybe just lift her and take a chance?

"Burlap on or off? Depends on the tree." No. ALWAYS take burlap/wire/cage/twine off completely. It doesn't degrade/rust as fast as people claim and there are countless examples of trees toppling over or breaking years down the line because the roots got so constricted because of it. It's a recipe for disaster. Better yet to take off the soil aswell. Chances are it's not the same as the new native soil and water doesn't cross textural soil differences very well leading to either a bath tub or oven dry situation. Regarding the oakleaf: when a plant suddenly goes downhill THAT fast, my mind goes in the direction of something bacterial that affects either the xylem or phloem.

That is devastating. We lost our big Christmas tree to a needle drop disease two years ago. In late autumn and early spring (before the pollinators arrive), we spray our large Leylands with both above and underground pest control to prevent bagworms that will defoliate the trees. Before frost, they also get Ironite which keeps all my evergreens from turning brown in winter.
