LOST and Homeless in Calbayog City Philippines

I travel further up Samar Island in the Philippines to the capital city of Calbayog. Trying to find a nice hotel here is more difficult than I expected but the ride from Catbalogon was only just over an hour. This is a walk and talk as I explore the city so come along for the adventure.

Hey buddy have you been to laos yet , you could go back to china via Bangkok, Vientiane, Vientiane to Kunming by china lao high speed rail. Looks like phillipenes is worse off than laos and Cambodia economic wise, I hear they dumpsters dive for leftover chicken and wash and prepare those dishes. Watch out 😂, thanks for sharing .

If you're afraid of the heat, you can go to Biguio, which is the coolest place in the Philippines, but the hotel prices there are also the most expensive in the Philippines

The Almira Hotel has western toilets, a nearby park, a shopping mall, a Jollibees, and cafes next door to keep you fed.

This is the way i do traveling if I visit a new country . I mnot interested in those huge malls, skyscraper city . You get to know more genuine folks in this kind of small towns.

Catbalogan is the capital city, however there are more governmental offices in Calbayog as it is closer to Allen town where the ferry is for road travel to Manila.

Calbayog City is a lot bigger then Catbalogan. I have visiting for 42 years and it has grown a lot. I assume you stopped by Mangos where foreigners hang out, only on Wednesday is there a Expat group that meets up. I disagree with you if you said Catbalogan is a better city then Calbayog.

It is a lot like Canada. Mostly a western taste especially when it comes to Chicken. They have pizza places, KFC, Popeyes, Jollibee, Kenny Rogers Roast Chicken and the list goes on and on. Not a very healthy diet but tastes good.

Stayed in the west prime for a couple of weeks in March, good hotel and only a stroll to the Red Iron for an evening meal. The walk to the Grand Gaisano only takes a few minutes too, plenty to see and do there. My better half is from a barangay just outside Calbayog, yes there's poverty, but try walking down O'Connell street in Dublin during the daylight hours and the scene isn't much different. I presume you were being taken to the Mango lounge and residences? Seems to be the main expats hang out. My plan is to retire not far from Calbayog, I've done the whole Cebu thing, yes it's nice, it's modern, but I found it just didn't have the soul that Calbayog had. As usual great video Kirk

@@Gweilo60 I understand the desire for new adventure totally. I'm recently retired and single and not adapting well to this change in life. I was MOST happy traveling solo for five months in Malaysia, Thailand, and China last year. I plan to go back again this year to travel to Taiwan, Singapore, and more of China (including Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia - really different spots). I LOVE the adventure.... and the exposure to new things and new people.... its wonderful. So I totally get that part. But just be careful, ok? And please dont be one of those old guys who gets a young woman just to make him feel less old..... not saying you ARE, but I saw that a lot in Thailand. Seemed sad. Be happy my dear Gweilo!

Gweilo, if you want a cooler nearby country to visit, you should consider Singapore. It is also hot but at least it is much more developed with fancy shopping malls and air conditioning all over. Much more expensive though, but anyway you are rich! 🤣

Weifang and I went to Singapore about 5 years ago. Good food and a melting pot of people from around the world but yes very small and only good for about a week before it gets boring.
