I don't know what Sega where thinking with the idea of A) release 32x and Saturn in same time window. B) Blindside stores and customers with the release of the console, which in turn led to it releasing with few titles at launch. Then they made matters worse by keeping a bulk of its game library in JP. Which included deliberately blocking a lot of RPGs being translated. Sega done the Saturn dirty, it never had a chance. Awesome as the system is it itself.

The Incredible Shrinking Character, that's a game I thought I had just dreamt up one day since I could never find any info about it as I had forgotten the name apparently. Wow, that's a relief. Oh and yes, I would like a full video about Rayman 2 for Saturn if it was really going to be so different.

There's another Sega Saturn game that was cancelled, and it's called: "The Journeyman Project Pegasus Prime", while it was released on the Macintosh, then later for Windows and Linux thanks to the emulator Scummvm, a Sega Saturn, Playstation and 3DO were planned, only the Playstation port got released, but only in Japan.

Sega was all over the place, a revolutionary, grungie, in your face company with the Saturn being my favorite console...yes, it failed in the end, but what a glorious time to be alive and to be a Sega fan. No other company, has the same emotional impact on me, a 40 year old man, to this day. Thank you Sega, for all the joy you gave me!

Interesting fact about Terminus, the team at Scavenger that was working on the game was later hired by Shiny Entertainment and the game eventually was reworked and morphed into Messiah on PC. (17:43)

I’m shocked that Diablo wasn’t on your list of cancelled Saturn games. This *HUGE* PC-game had been announced on both Playstation and Saturn ,although only the Playstation version was finally released. The cancellation of Diablo on Saturn was the determining-factor for myself to buy a Playstation instead of the Saturn !! ,so you can understand my surprise😮 when I noticed that is absent from your list !! (I was a “SEGA MegaDrive kid” back then so I was waiting to see what will happen with Diablo before I choose my next console and sadly , just like many other games , SEGA failed to bring this PC-masterpiece to Saturn’s customers )

Outside of the suprise launch. The cancelation of saturn games killed the system in short amount of time in the NA/PAL regions. I wish sega would've sent out sdk and documentation prior to those region during its launch year. Hopefully homebrew developers will start developing all of the canceled saturn games in the future.

I remember standing in a Toys 'r Us aisle for about an hour looking at games of interest and assessing price point of Saturn vs Playstation. I decided on Saturn, but I didn't realize it was after a price drop because it was dying. Still, I was pleased with my purchase. When I finally purchased a Playstation much later, I was infuriated to discover I could not save a game until I went back to the store to purchase separate memory cards.

I think the saturn would have had more look keeping games on the platform if they stuck with the 2D route. I understand the industry and even us gamers were drunk with 3D graphics fascination, even though those graphics weren't that great.

Wasnt scud race planned on the Dreamcast as showcased at the first devellopement presentation of the console? They used the game in arcade to promote the Saturn as the logo is shown in track 1, but I don't remember seeing that game in any planning of the Saturn line up, mainly because it would have been impossible to run it on the console anyway. Virtua fighter 3 was planned at one plan with that rumored boosted ram cartridge, but was moved to the Dreamcast alongside shenmue by am2 after Sega decided to move on with the Saturn.

You know, they could release most of these games today & they would fill a niche void that we have in todays gaming. Especially with the sheep herding, dlc-trap releases in main stream gaming now...

I think the Saturn controller had an overall too simplistic scheme and limited buttons when compared to the N64 and Playstation.
@RippahRooJizah Жыл бұрын
All the Saturn lacked compared to a basic PSX controller was a select button. They otherwise had the same amount of buttons. Similarly, the N64 had the same amount of buttons as the PSX controller.

The original Saturn should have been released in 1993 for $200 with just the 2D hardware and one CPU that they had. Sega could have then released a $200 3D Add-on adding textured polygonal graphics for Daytona USA, ETC, When the technology was ready in 1996. No 32X and changing roadmap. There'd be millions of 2D Saturn's out there and few cancelled games.
@maroon9273 Жыл бұрын
I believe this console wouldve been ready in 1994/(EU)1995 worldwide. I believe sega were still in early development of games for the 1st hardware
@MaxAbramson3 Жыл бұрын
@@maroon9273 The Saturn began development before the Sega CD in early 1992. The switch from the 68020 to 68030, then the HITACHI SH1/2 occurred in 1993, according to Hideki Sato. In fact, it was late 1993 when third party developers hinted (lied) that the PS1 could draw 300,000 polygons/sec. In fact, launch games couldn't do half that, and even Crash Bandicoot was drawing 60k, at best. Nevertheless, SEGA of Japan decided to add on 3D polygons to make the Saturn more powerful, but never went with Lockheed Martin's Real3D hardware found in the Model 1, 2, and 3. Why? Because of cost and time constraints. HITACHI's engineers reminded Sato that the SH2 was designed with SMP in mind, so they put that to use and used the second SH2 as a geometry engine, just as they already were with the 32X. SoJ then added another 1MB of separate, slower RAM, the powerful DSP that few could program, and another VDP for rendering quadrilaterals. So releasing the 3D addon in 1995 (96 outside of Japan) would've killed the 32X, Jupiter, Neptune, etc, and that awful changing roadmap. Yet it would've left the Japanese arcade maker with a clear path to get Model 1/2 level graphics (albeit at a lower resolution) by 1996 in America and Europe. Instead, SEGA fans had to wait until Fall of 1999 for the Dreamcast, which was promptly killed off by the (arguably less capable) PS2.
