I just have to say that your packrafting videos are by far the best on youtube. Your trips are just amazing to watch. It helps when im stuck in my cubicle all day to just watch your videos and be a part of the adventure. Please post more.

It’s my 10 year anniversary of being a Fatbiker this month and I remember this the video popped up then I ordered a Packraft. Ironically I just got my new Gnarwall Packraft this year. This video is still great watching it 10 years later.

@romandial How long open sea straights you could try to teoretically-practically cross on Alpacka? For ex. straight from island to island. The main problem is water inside and fatigue...
@aguyfromrussia12 жыл бұрын
@romandial I have noting against Alpacka. It's great. Just 'd like to know your opinion concerning use of Alpacka in cases of seayack's use. For ex. my inflatable kayak "Pike-1" (Schuka in Russian) allows to be used as seayak but with limitations, it behaves well on open waters but the speed is 5 km/h when seayak gives 7 km/h, limitation is 12 km of open water crossing (for me personally) from land to land...

Hi can someone comment on the crank/shifting setup on these bikes? Are these single speed,rohloff, hammerschmidt, or something else? Thank you

I have become interested in using pack rafts for fishing and discovered your channel, this is a wonderful video, made me a subscriber. I just watched a video last week of a couple that spent a year hiking and paddling the Alaska coast, I think they could have used a bike like yours.

In addition. All depends on application. For example my inflatable boat allows to transport velo from island to island with distance of open travel up to 10-12 km on waves up to 2 meters. So my application is more focused on water than your Alpacka raft. Weight on ground - yes, heavy....

@aguyfromrussia For bicycle on boat? 10-20 km possible, maybe with waves to 2 m (sounds scary). The big 2012 Llama model with the new spray deck would work best. More volume and drier cockpit. I think I could paddle very far in open ocean with velo on Alpacka -- maybe 50 km crossing if seas and winds not bad. Obviously not as good as sea kayak, but surprisingly good. Have you seen whitewater videos for Alpackas?

Hi Roman I'd be great greatful if you could give me your opinion on the HMG UltaMid. I'm aware you use one, but do you favour the 2 or the 4? I'm 6'4" so considering the 4 but feel it might be far to big for solo use. What do you think? Best regards Andy.

@aguyfromrussia oh yes and with maybe two companions for big crossings. I am not familiar with Russian water, but in Alaska use google map to find Valdez and Whittier. I would paddle between them with 2012 Llama and spray deck in maybe one week, camping along way.

@romandial Apart from behavior on waves and wind I afraid its durability on wood obstructions.
@aguyfromrussia12 жыл бұрын
We compared Alpacka with my russian "Pike". Alpacka indeed is very durable but speed is lower and it turns, also it 'sails" on wind, it has limit in speed - you may not practice "forced speedy run" like in my inflatable kayak. When I come on island I don't need the boat - just hide it (7.5 kilo) and travel without. I would refuse to go on it with you on Montague Island)...Alpacka is great but indeed not for "almost seayack" application shown here)

We in Russia use the inflatable kayak called "Schuka" (stalker.lib.ru) in much more extreme conditions. Weight of my boat is 7.5 kilo. Your boat is great because of weight but not so good in waves than ours) Velo - 28 inches weels for greater offroad capacity. Fine that one our guy ordered the boat you have from US to compare. I dislike his choice, too much unsafe))) Good luck!
@romandial12 жыл бұрын
@aguyfromrussia Alpackas are not unsafe.

Great video. Beautiful areas. The ranger went WAY out his way to be a dick. Of all the things he could have been doing that day, the fact that he had to hassle someone for what? Relieving a natural need, and in a wilderness area--I guess he didn't have enough to do! Go fix a broken gate, or something. Get a real life. The ending was perfect, though. "Piss power!"
