Catherine I’m went on the lost coast backpacking before you needed a permit and bear canisters, we hiked it 20 times and never got tired of it we stayed many time at smiths cabin on Spanish flat we know the people that own it , but also camped at the mouth of the creek . We took 5 days from mouth of matole river to black sands beach . Always went the time you did , just told friend I want to do it again . We are in our 70 s

Thanks so much for the video. Georgius scenery. I lived on the Mendocino coast for a few years and loved it. The Lost Coast is a mystery to so many. I have driven on Hwy 101 from Willits to Eureka many times and the road is a number of miles east of the Lost coast. Now I know what it looks like.

@Catherine Gregory, I feel so calm and relaxed after each of your videos. I learn something new from each of them. One thing that’s funny is that I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and one of my cats, I believe, has a crush on you. I follow several youtube channels. When yours starts and you speak, he comes running, cuddles up and watches the entirety of your video. Then he’s up and back at life. He doesn’t cuddle and nap, mind you. Paddled the West Coast post retirement, and this section was one of my favorites. We saw almost no one late summer about 10 years ago. Surf landings and launching were tough at times. Most beaches weren't wide enough to avoid high tides. I've never seen so much poison oak. The wild character made me long for past times with much less coastal development. It sure is special!

I loved this video! I grew up going to the East Coast (NJ beaches) and they are so different than this. It's amazing that you have the ocean on the one side, and mountains, streams/waterfalls on the other. There is just something about the ocean that calls out.

I love the lost coast area. I think it’s the one place I’d wear gators to keep those tiny pebbles out of my shoes. It’s very undeveloped. There are barely roads to get you to some of the trails. When I saw you took hwy 1 to leggett I wondered if you were hiking the lost coast. I’ve stayed many times at a hotel in Westport that is more like a B&B, the historic Westport inn. That beach there is stunning and has those tiny pebbles. You often see whales swimming by year around.
