I just sent a £250+ very rare collectible via Hermes (massive box, too big to go any other way - eg UPS etc). I didn’t even bother with insurance because it was older than 50 years - which if you read Packlinks terms means it’s “antique” and actually prohibited, bizarrely. Anyway I ignored that and sent it 24 hr signed from the local garage. Superb - got there in less than 24hrs and buyer VERY pleased. It’s all a gamble, you just have to be prepared to write things off occasionally.

I made a claim for a £10 book entering the same type of answers that you did with online form and I received a cheque for the full amount plus postage on top so I actually received more as had included the shipping price in original cost of book on eBay. I also made a claim with Hermes and got paid in full for a film projector.

Best of luck!!! My Ebay losses occurred over several months. The thefts, because that's what they were, occurred in the Watford Sorting Office. But my items were sent from Europe by someone I bought them from. Under the rules, you cannot claim as the intended recipient, only the sender can claim and foreign senders don't do that. There is a Parliamentary group for the Royal Mail. They are a waste of time, MPs who are paid to represent us but don't. They investigate little or nothing and can't even reply other than to express their lack of concern or interest. Basically, the UK Royal Mail (at least the sorting office side) is a den of thieves with little or no oversight.

I once sold an item to South Africa, item £5 postage £15 (pre GSP days). Got lost, wanted postage more than item cost back. The item had its original shop £2.50 sticker on which I had a photo of (part of its very low value vintage credentials lol) so I sent that for proof of cost. I did get it all back after 3 months, by cheque. But I wouldn’t bother normally due to only getting the original purchase price back. The item was a genuine 1980s transformer style toy watch, I would have got more than £5 these days 😿

@@salesoftheunexpected my delivery rate with Royal Mail is 100% this is partly why a couple of years ago I stopped doing signed for. That extra quid is just wasted money. Royal Mail would have to be losing a ton of my parcels to offset the money I’ve saved over the years by not sending signed for

I've done this several times and you can get 3/4 way through the form and then it tells you that you can't continue until 21 days have past since the estimated delivery date. They've only lost a parcel of mine twice before. As you showed they want receipt of original price and don't want to compensate for sale price which is silly. I put in a claim for the full compensation amount both times as item worth just over £30 and they sent me about two quids worth of stamps. If that happens make sure you go back with a letter and say the item value is the value a buyer was willing to pay for it (send screenshot of other sold prices) I paid you for a service which you did not fulfill, I'm therefore claiming for this amount plus the postage costs etc - and they should send cheque out for claimed amount. I think they hope that lots of people will give up after the stamps.

All these comments saying people only got stamps, I’ve always received a cheque 🤷🏼♀️ they’ve always been fast to deal with things, I’ve probably made 5 claims over the past 4 years. When the form asks for the proof of the value of the item, as you say I have no proof of the cost of an item I bought 2 summers ago at a boot sale 😂 so I’ve always just added a print screen of the order details from my eBay account, showing exactly how much the buyer payed (and how much I have had to refund due to them losing the item). Some people say that Royal Mail only refund what you paid for the item, but I’ve always been compensated for what the item sold for no questions asked 🤷🏼♀️

I bought an iPhone the seller used Royal Mail tracking cost 3.95 the phone was £420 and was not delivered. eBay say it was delivered because it was signed for but the signed receipt was the postman. eBay gave me an email for Royal Mail but didn’t realise they don’t monitor this email so my time limit on making an appeal is nearly out. I appreciate there are a lot of sellers having a hard time with eBay but I will never buy a high value item from eBay again.

I put in a lost item claim as well and I just got a book of 6 first class stamps. I was happy to accept, as the cost of the item originally bought from a charity shop, was less than the value of the stamps. I now keep all my receipts when I buy from charity shops. The item value seems to be the critical bit of evidence - they even ask me what the value of each item I post now so that would probably affect any future compensation claims.
