Survivors of 815 are reunited in this powerfully emotional end to episode 8 of season 2, 'Collision', of Lost. Not only is it one of the best reunion scenes in the show, it's up there as one of my favorite episode closers with Lost soundtrack composer Michael Giacchino demonstrating his fluency at not only underscoring the emotionality but enhancing it through expert utilization of strings and piano.
Notice the very ending has Jack and Ana Lucia, standing at opposite ends, representing the theme of black and white (through their attire) that is so dominant throughout the show.

Yes but the Others pushed Ana Lucia over the edge giving her PTSD and the Whispers didn't help. I don't blame her for Shannon's death it was the others sending Goodwin and Ethan to spy on the 815 Survivors and dragging kids into the jungle in the middle of the night. It also didn't help that Ana pregnant at the time was shot by Jason resulting a miscarriage. Ana is sane and capable of great remorse for the death of Shannon but she is also shattered into a billion pieces. Ana also helped Hugo in S5.E2: The Lie "Oh yeah, Libby says hi."

I still stand by my opinion that Lost is one of the greatest shows ever. Yeah the holes in the story kept piling up as we got closer to the end, and a giant plug in a hole in the ground perhaps wasn't the best design choice, and yes, a lot of characters were killed off too early because of real life problems, but in the end, I don't remember even a single TV show that gave me so many emotional moments because it made you so attached to these characters. The mysteries kept you intrigued, but the true heart of this show are the personal journeys of these characters, and their interactions with each other. That's why I actually liked the purgatory ending. Who gives a shit about the mysteries of the island by this point? At the end they all eventually die, but through life on the island they forged an unbreakable bond that brought them together in the afterlife to find each other, remember each other, be happy together without worries, and finally move on together. ...well apart from Michael who's forever trapped on the Island. Because fuck Michael.
@FomorViceroy
@FomorViceroy 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed on this. Whatever one may think about the turns the show took in the last two seasons, you cannot ever deny the fact that Lost was appointment television. For me, when it was on that day -- Wednesdays as I recall -- it was the first thing I thought of when I woke up in the morning and the last thing I thought of when I went to sleep. You didn't want to come to school or work the next day if you had missed it the night before. The show had a life beyond the hour per week that it was on TV; which is something that those who are just discovering the show since are missing out on. It's easy to just binge the hell out of the show, but what the new viewer misses out on is the theorizing week to week, connecting dots, looking for clues, speculating during the almost-endless wait between seasons. Never before or since was I into a show as much as this one. And I miss the hell out of it.

Michael is easy to hate but anyone would have done the same in his situation. His ten year old son is what mattered the most to him and he would do anything to keep him safe, even if some of those things were traitorous and horrible. He owed no allegiance to the survivors. Just his son that was taken away from him once already before the island. You cant fault a man for that.

"Lost" reached a glorious emotional peak with this one episode. One of the loveliest hours- a fine combination of direction, editing, and music- all done *without* dialogue, just gut. And so many wonderful reunions, including not one, but *two* couples: Jin and Sun (previously shown on the outs) and my personal favorite, Rose and Bernard (up until now we'd only heard from Rose- fleetingly- that her husband was still alive, but had no proof until the end of the previous episode). Famously, the two actors prepared for their roles without meeting each other in real life until this moment- so they probably did not know until the cameras rolled that they'd be an interracial couple. How beautiful for this surprise on the viewers to reveal two of the viewers' favorite characters. No matter how many times I replay this scene (and I have the series on DVD), I tear up every time. Well done.

For as much as people were not happy with the Sayid and Shannon reunion in The End, this scene for me seals why they did end up together. Sure they did not have a relationship nor did Sayid ever allude to it for 4 whole seasons since Season 2, however that's beside the point. What matters is that in this moment and in several other scenes in this season, the writing, filming and musical score all points towards us truly feeling that this really was a loss not just for Sayid but more importantly - it sets up a poignant narrative theme which ripples throughout all the seasons - that is that as soon as our heroes find redemption/love it is more than often snatched away. Sayid and Shannon's love - as unexpected, unconventional and perhaps not realistic as Sayid and Nadia's was - it epitomised what the island represented for all of the characters. It was the chance to be the person they never felt they could be in the real world. The tragedy of her death and Sayid cradling her in his arms - stands as the beginning of many lost loves which would come after on the show and the establishment of the show's central message that life is bittersweet and precious - for what short time we have we should find someone who values us, respects us, appreciates us, loves us and allows us to bring out the best in ourselves.

IMO the best Lost couples are: - Penny and Desmond (the epic story of star crossed lovers). - Rose and Bernard (honestly they are relationship /retirement goals. Fight occasionally but only occasionally and otherwise have no drama that drives/interferes with the plot). - Jin and Sun (a rollercoaster of emotions. You start off thinking it’s not a healthy relationship but they actually work through their problems and their bond gets stronger as a result and the viewer gets more invested).
