I remember visiting Gallipoli in 1987, and although I was not looking for it, it was not hard to see human bones even then, around the Nek.... It brought me to tears...

I first started reading military history when I was a kid in the 70's. Out of everything I've read or watched there are a few that stand out and make me thank god that I never had to go through the experience of war. Gallipoli is definitely one of them.

I couldn’t agree more. Gallipoli was horrific from start to finish.

Why did they clear the scrub-? battlefield archaeology-or more likely for a fire break?
@MatMcLachlanHistory5 жыл бұрын
It’s deliberate work to expose the trenches for visitors.

@@MatMcLachlanHistory Thanks for yout reply-interesting, clearing the area sounds like a preamble to possibly a commercial development ?
@MatMcLachlanHistory5 жыл бұрын
No it’s a protected national park. The clearance is simply to make the trenches more accessible for visitors.

@@MatMcLachlanHistory hi, have they excavated them further? Have they perhaps done any archeology? Taken them to their original depth?
@MatMcLachlanHistory4 жыл бұрын
No, it’s part of a program to simply expose trench systems in key locations by clearing the scrub.
