@jmichael97514 жыл бұрын
The best way for her to fit in the timeline would be if she was Sonia Cronqvist and married a Belmont. This would fix a lot of the problems because she wouldn’t be the first bloodline Belmont to defeat Dracula, she could still be mother to Trevor, her surname wouldn’t be an issue, and having a “dark connection” being from Dracula’s bloodline would tie the Belmont and Dracula houses. The only problem would be the incest hinted with Alucard but considering they’re a noble bloodline that wouldn’t be too far off from real world history.
@benjaminkemer6428 Жыл бұрын
2 years later Another possibility would be that, if they wanted ideas for alternate universe Castlevania, would be that Alucard takes on an Alias of Belmont after running away from Count Dracula, so that people don’t think he’s related to Count Dracula. Then Alucard while living life as a farmer, seemingly escaped from Dracula, gets impressed with a local girl with a maiden name like Sonia Renard, they get married so she becomes Sonia Belmont, even though it was Alucard’s Alias. It becomes the name of Dracula’s enemies. I’m thinking of this because Legends is already pretty divergent from canon with issues like Alucard being Trevor’s father. That conflicts heavily with Castlevania III, where Alucard never acknowledges Trevor as his child and video game Alucard does have feelings for people who are family to him, whether it’s his mother, his father, etc.

I was in the midst of writing a story that could reintroduce Sonia to the Castlevania lore in an IGA-friendly fashion, using a folk hero from the real life Siege of Belgrade, references to the historical Vlad Tepes, and the acknowledgement of Vampire Killer as a male Belmont-only weapon in the setting. It was being told from the perspective of the folk hero trying to retrieve the whip from Sonia, a perspective of Alucard from a re-imagined first meeting with her after his mother's death (revealed as the main protagonist discovered more about Sonia), and a bookending prologue/epilogue describing the sacking of Wygol and the beginning of Trevor's quest to finish Sonia's failed attempt at vanquishing Dracula. I had a delusion that maybe I could pitch it to Konami in their post-video game phase, hoping they'd see it as a quick way to make a buck from someone else's efforts. Then the anime happened and I felt like I'd missed my shot. Could never find the enthusiasm to continue the series past the first four episodes, and the more I learned about it, the more I lamented that there'd never be an exploration of a familial relationship between Sonia, Adrian, and Trevor. Sorry, Sonia. I tried. :(

I still think Sonia, as a character, can be included in the main Castlevania canon. Just not as a mainline Belmont. maybe she could be an ancestor to other clans related to the Belmonts, like the Belnades or the Lecarde famalies. keep in mind that she doesn't really have to be in the same time period as she is in the game
@SindraVaniaProjects4 жыл бұрын
She certainly could be a branch-family matriarch, but we would have to omit that the game says she fought Dracula sometime round 1450, and Curse of Darkness states Trevor was the first to defeat Dracula. If you handwave when she fought Dracula (and that she met Alucard), then she could be re-written to be a Belmont born later down the timeline, and could be the ancestor of Maria Renard or something to that effect.

Nice video. That's a good point about the issue of her losing her maiden name and how that would work if she is no longer an official "Belmont" in blood and name. I remember reading up on her back when I got done playing LoI a long time ago. I was disappointed that she got cut out of Iga's timeline until I read up on the love story between her and Alucard. I still like the concept of Sonia Belmont (even if the whip or family legacy still has to be passed to on other male relatives at the end), but I really dislike how she was used in Legends. Her story is just revenge against Dracula after he ravages her family with nothing else to add onto the the "legacy" other than her personal revenge. The inclusion of Alucard and the love story is lame and feels inappropriately used in the context of a Belmont origin story. I mean, you take what is supposed to a be new Belmont character and supposed to show case them, but then you have a powerhouse fan favorite character like Alucard making Sonia feel secondary. With the implication of him being the father of Trevor, that unfortunately makes takes the "Belmont Legacy" and them being heroes and turns them into Alucard's own legacy. Which I feel diminishes what other Belmonts in games prior to this one done. I like Alucard like the next fan, but he doesn't need to be shoehorned into a Belmont origin story like that. There was no need for him to be there, and even worse to be responsible for contributing to the Belmont bloodline like that. He's good in CVIII, SotN, and the Sorrow games where he had a good role as someone who came in need to help the Belmonts (or a mentor like figure for Soma). Let a Belmont origin story be a Belmont story first and foremost. Say what you will about LoI, but at least it let the Belmont character shine in their own story instead of playing second fiddle to a fan favorite character. I think that's my main problem with Legends (even moreso than the surname/maiden name issue, which is a good point I didn't think of before). Still, I think Sonia as a basic concept is too neat to leave on the retcon floor. I think she should have been given a complete rewrite. You could have even put her into a different time than the 1400s or something, and embellish the basic revenge story into something about revenge vs doing something more altruistic for the long run. I wonder if Castlevania Resurrection was going to soft reboot her back story from legends into something that would have better fit SotN and Iga's direction of Castlevania's story.

It would ultimately end up being a type of Existential Crisis for Alucard because he would outlive his own children similar to Tuck Everlasting. He wouldn’t seek out romantic relationships because he would outlive the spouse and children and he wouldn’t age with them. He wouldn’t want to put that on anyone. On the other hand, he would also feel obligated to protect and mentor the Belmonts because they were his children. But the point is, he wouldn’t end up being too different from his canon version, except for his motivations
@sleepyren_2 жыл бұрын
She could just be included elsewhere in the main timeline! Hell, Yoko Belnades was meant to be in Bloodlines, yet she got pushed wayyyy far into the Sorrow games. I think maybe for a 1999 game (that will never happen), Sonia could be Julius' sister, who gets killed or harmed by either Dracula himself or his henchmen, effectively giving Julius another reason to be the most powerful Belmont in history. She doesn't *need* to be the main protag, or the first Belmont, but i wish she got reinstated in the canon somehow.
@SindraVaniaProjects2 жыл бұрын
My choice would be to have a version of Sonia in the main Castlevania timeline, but have her show up between Leon and Trevor's times....after Mathias turns into Dracula but before he goes apeshit on humanity. The game could be less action-platformer and more exploration with Sonia hunting down Dracula after he's gone into hiding, and could showcase how the Belmonts got powerful enough to fight monsters; which could also work towards explaining when the Belmont were exiled from Walachia prior to Castlevania 3.

Would have been easier to make her Richter belmonts mother. She is the 1st "Female" belmot to Defeat Dracula (but not kill him) and her child would be the prophesied Ultimate belmont since Richter was the strongest. (It is even stated in Symphony of the Night). During that time line she could have also met Alucard, been romantic and had a baby at the end she didn't tell Alucard about. She is later killed because she didnt finish the job with Dracula, do to this Alucard feels responsible for her death at the end for not being there. He finds her child leaves the baby with the church with a note Richter "Belmont" (because he doesnt ever find out its his son). They raise him and he becomes one bad ass Vampire hunting belmont. This would explain - richters insane jumping abilities - increased strength, stamina and healing - fast as lightning throwing abilities - why he is strong in the arcane

You’re talking about the 15th century. Women were normally getting married and having first babies around 17 years old then. It was a different time. The big problem I see though is Alucard being Trevor’s father, he would find out in Castlevania III. Alucard isn’t dramatic about everything, but with how Alucard reacts in Symphony of the Night or in Aria or Sorrow, Alucard would be a bit surprised about how he is Trevor’s father. Maybe he thought he was sterile and surprised Sonia got pregnant. The whole idea that the Belmonts are related to Dracula might make sense as to why Dracula could potentially reincarnate himself inside a Belmont as those would be blood descendants of him. (Simon and Richter). But overall, it contradicts too much about what we know about Game Alucard for him to be Trevor’s father

I'm glad you said you were looking forward to our theories as to how she could still fit in. I'll agree it would be best if we straight omit Alucard's involvement. You said Sonia's parent's were aristocrats as a portion of her backstory. With enough money, there would certainly be a way to re-establish the house and name and raise a child. That word means she was some form of royalty, ergo I would believe the finances quite available to her - especially if she was the sole remaining member of a royal bloodline, and could potentially be reason for her to be able to keep the last name if she were to have married & not just raised the child independently. The whip she uses is the Vampire Killer (to my knowledge at least) and it could have easily been passed to her from Leon. Speaking of which, this could simply be the first encounter with Mathias since he changed his name to Dracula. However, either removing Alucard's existence at this point & tweaking the story to be less copy/paste Dracula's Curse & more perhaps of Dracula's first attempt at human genocide after having mastered the powers of darkness that he gained control over at the end of Lament in an attempt to avenge Elizabetha. Perhaps when Lisa' knocked at the door years after his defeat at Sonia's hands, it was Sonia's last words to him, those of pity, that were what rang in his head, as another blonde, strong willed woman stood before him. Only this one helped him move past his loss - until he was forced to relive the exact event that created the monster he was to become. Well, that's if you go by how the Netflix show depicts Lisa's interactions with Dracula, thou personally I don't believe they cause any issues canonically, though I could be wrong. At any rate, I hope you enjoyed my theory on how Sonia could still be a canon member of House Belmont. I remember playing my gameboy as my parents would have me out for errands or whatnot, & always thought it was BS that she got cut from cannon after I'd heard it years later. A part of that is because I always thought it was cool that a girl could beat Dracula just like any of the guys I played as on the NES could. I don't know, with the way things are in today's culture, that probably doesn't translate the right way, but I don't know how else to explain it. I mean, outside of Samus - who you had to beat the game fast enough to even know she was a girl back then, otherwise you went with what the instructions said and that calls Samus a guy on purpose to throw off the surprise at the end as far as I understand it. Anyway, my point is that it was rare back when games were getting started to have one that starred a girl. You had Princess Toadstool (never understood why they didn't just add the 'Peach' as her first name...but that probably has to do more with Nintendo wanting it right after years) but she was in a game WITH Mario, Luigi & Toad. Not the star of Mario Bros. 2. Hell, some people never even picked her because she was "the girl". But I like seeing girls kick ass just as much, if not more, that seeing a guy do it. Point being, I don't like retcons often & I tend to like them even less when they remove cool characters or events. The only alternate timeline I like for Castlevania is the LoS story, and I still don't get why it gets hated on so much, but that's a whole other can of worms lol. Thanks again for the videos!

Thanks for the discussion! I actually mention in my most recent vid on the semi-canon games that there's certainly room for Sonia to be in the main timeline, but it requires some tweaks to her story. I'd love to see her as the first Belmont to encounter Mathias after Leon, when he's well on his way to becoming Dracula but not quite where he's at by the time of Dracula's Curse, when he's amassing power. It'd get rid of the Alucard messiness but still keep her relevant and important as a clan member who battles Mathias/Dracula without defeating him, but gains valuable knowledge of his antics. She could also be the reason the Belmonts are exiled prior to Trevor's time, because they figure the Belmonts are all witches due to her power in-particular.

Belmonts being part vampire while not showing any magic resembling Dracula's or Alucard's powers, or vampire powers in general. In Curse of Darkness, Trevor is described as 'true-blooded.' Yeah. 3. Alucard's character has consistently been portrayed as someone who considers his blood cursed. We are talking about someone who wanted to put himself in what was supposed to be an eternal sleep because he thought it would be best if his bloodline 'disappeared from the world forever' to paraphrase. And no, it's not because he's matured over centuries; if Legends is accurate, then he slept for some time between Legends and CVIII, and right after CVIII, he fell asleep for 320-some years. He was ASLEEP. He did not suddenly go from someone who was fine 'sowing his cursed seed' to someone who would rather sleep for all eternity than trouble the world with his presence over the course of a long nap. >_>

Other than the whole controversy of Trevor being related to Dracula, the notorious Impaler had no reason to hate Humanity until Lisa was burned at the stake. However, if it was stated that the vampire killer can only pass on to males, and Sonia was Richter's daughter or granddaughter, it could work. She could even start the game as a Belnades, before realizing she's actually capable of handling the Vampire Killer. This game could take place in the late 19th century - of all the games taking place in the 19th and 20th centuries, appropriately as the Church's hold on mankind started to weaken, I don't recall any game taking place in the 1880's or 1890's. This might, however, clash with a story that did take place then and is now part of the canon - Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I do want to use her “burning mode” more often but I should really hold back on that though. @@SindraVaniaProjects You are a genius. The bit about the Belmont name passing on from father to son makes so much sense. Sonia could have been the first Belmont since she passes on the name to her son, dies and then her son carries the Belmont name. Now, I applied this to Castlevania Nocturne, this won't work. Richter's mother can't be a Belmont since his father was the real Belmont. So my conclusion is that Richter's mother and father are siblings.

To be honest.. After reading many comments down here.. i find it all interesting and intriguing as well 🤔 Because Sonia Belmont has always been the key missing point in between the history canon towards Leon Belmont and Trevor Belmont.. Since i get that not everyone liked the whole romance between her and Alucard getting together and having a child. I mean look at what happened towards Castlevania Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate for example or perhaps both games of it.. Besides all that. I do love Sonia Belmont and her backstory but her to become a Belmont again. There will have to be a Castlevania Lords of Shadow 3 since then I've always questioned to myself after many years from the Lords of Shadow 2.. I liked Victor Belmont alot but what if he actually had a child and that child would turn out to be Sonia Belmont because what did Dracula aka Gabriel Belmont saw through the Mirror of fate that has been my top mystery question for so many years.. I mean i would love to see if the Mirror showed Dracula a glimpse that a new Belmont would rise and give him the eternal rest he desired.. i mean that could be a good story for a Castlevania Lords of Shadow 3 to properly reintroduce Sonia Belmont.. After all She is the missing key 🔑 towards everything within the Castlevania universe even though her noncanon story was just an alternate universe. The game title could also be called Castlevania Lords of Shadow 3 resurrection 🤔 but also Castlevania Nocturne is still in production from the Netflix side maybe Sonia might get an Easter Egg reference or something but who knows.

Thematically it’s not all bad, it’s just thrown at you out of left field in Legends. I mean they throw the Alucard Boss fight at you out of nowhere in the game with the “I love you” in it. That was a messing up in the narrative, and a bad cash grab off Symphony of the Night. I mean Sonia having a child through Alucard isn’t inherently a bad idea, it’s just that in contrast with Symphony of the Night, Maria Renard hints to Alucard multiple times that she might like him over the course of the game. It feels narratively more organic that way. They could have maybe done brief cutscenes of Alucard dialogue to imply that he liked Sonia, but they didn’t quite do that. Now I’m aware of some technical limitations on the old Gameboy, but in the end, some things just get a bit rushed or slap dashed. I would like to see some alternate timeline where Alucard finds out that he is Trevor’s father, it would be something different and potentially interesting. I would think Alucard would be sad because his son Trevor would be all he had left of Sonia and he would have children and grandchildren whom he outlived. It would be wierd and tragic

I think it was disappointing that the game wasn’t a debut for Gameboy Color. The other part is all the continuity issues it creates, if it was canonical. I mean Alucard in the games recognizes familial relationships. His game version is pretty stoic, but finding out facts like Richter Belmont being a Belmont turned evil made his blood boil. Finding out he was Trevor’s father, which he would, would also affect him to some degree. That’s also just Castlevania III. I mean there’s no way this is canon without retroactively retconning quite a bit. Also it’s not exactly clear to me from the game how Alucard got with Sonia, was he in some relationship with her before she went to the castle, I mean the whole implication was thrown in there, abruptly. EDIT: On second thought: Alucard might have used the name Belmont as an Alias to hide his identity, but there’s still no real plot given
@SindraVaniaProjects Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was a slap-dash plot as it was, and to shoehorn the romance angle in I am convinced was just to capitalize on how popular Symphony of the Night was at the time. If the game were redone, it'd be so much better to keep all that out and stick to telling a unique story about Sonia that falls in-between Lament and CV3, IMO.

@SindraVaniaProjects3 жыл бұрын
It is weak, sure, but also plausible. This is beyond the other plot threads that make it unlikely also. Granted, this is just my rationalization of things too, so feel free to present counter arguments.
@tnntaronewsnetwork45143 жыл бұрын
@@SindraVaniaProjects So I did do some digging into your arguments and such. From what I understand you have two arguments as to why Sonia Belmont cannot fit into the established canon. A. She didn’t change her last name and therefore there is no way she could have had a male heir to the name Belmont. The closest female descendant being to many generations removed as well B. She was a single mother with no family therefore she couldn’t possibly have raised a child all on her lonesome. I don’t find these arguments to be particularly persuasive. Starting with your first point, there are several reasons why Sonia Belmont remains a Belmont. Firstly because the ending text scrawl only claims she is a Mother not that she married. This lines of up with the implication that Alucard is the father because he’d have gone to his long sleep soon after. Otherwise the mysterious father could have simply left. There is also the scenario where she flatly refused to change her name which caused the father to leave. I could go on but your argument sounds like she MUST change her name when that is simply not true. Secondly the argument that she had zero resources. . . . . . . In the opening crawl of the game it explains Sonia is wealthy, a trait many of her descendants share down the line. Look at Sonia’s clothes in that ending scene, does that look like a 15th century peasant to you? She could easily have hired a maid or staff to help support the family. I mean there are single mothers in real life who raise children without literally being a rich heiress. In conclusion: If there are some dozen or so reason Sonia Belmont keeps the Belmont name, such as not actually wedding, and we know she is already wealthy meaning she can bring up the child in a good environment, then what exactly is stopping her from joining canon? The Alucard implication? Well it’s just that. An implication not a fact and can be easily retconned or left as a mystery.
@SindraVaniaProjects3 жыл бұрын
These are all great rebuttals and I appreciate you taking the time to discuss them. Everything you argue is plausible as well. (That's the great thing about speculating unfinished lore). I'm not a huge history buff but a lot of my argument comes from what I know of unmarried woman in the late medieval period. I didn't say she had no resources, but did say she had no other immediate family or support system since Dracula killed them. The story does say her family was nobility, but also that they lived remotely and away from people. If we are to believe her story could be canon with the rest of the games, then we have to also work into the fact the Belmonts were exiled some time prior to CV3 and lived outside of society, because that's Trevor's backstory. So, if her family was killed and nobody else was around to help her (to hire or otherwise), it'd be harder for her to raise a child alone. Not impossible, but harder. That's why I lean heavily towards it not being as likely. Also, I don't believe that Alucard is the father, especially if the kid is meant to be Trevor. Alucard sealed himself away around the time Sonia kills Dracula, which in the game is around 1450 and Trevor isn't born until 1456.
@tnntaronewsnetwork45143 жыл бұрын
@@SindraVaniaProjects No, thank you for being willing to have an open dialogue on the subject, that’s what makes discussions fun after all. I read what you said did a little digging since you said you had a historical basis for your points. I obviously don’t know what sources you found but I found this: jarm.journals.yorku.ca/index.php/jarm/article/download/39335/35663/0. You can check it out if you want but in short it does agree that being a single unwed woman was very very veeeerrry difficult. So it is at this point I want to clarify that my goal isn’t to say “Yes 100% these events I said occurred” but more to say “There is enough here that this could work with established canon” since as you said in the video, you don’t think there is any place at all for Sonia Belmont. So with all the information in mind I’ll list off the criteria that I would need to be able to explain to tie Sonia into the canon and then do the explaining. 1. The Last Name 2. The lack of a family and support system 3. The excommunication from the Church 4. Making sense of the timeline. So given the available evidence here is how I think Sonia Belmont And Castlevania Legends can fit into the timeline as it stands. It starts with her family being excommunicated. As you mentioned her family was rich yes but already isolated as is, leading me to believe they were already excommunicated. Now if we are again to use irl history than Roman Catholicism was effectively disbanded by the early 15th church as the country from then on was Orthodox Christian. This explains why they would be isolated but also retain their wealth in my mind. So we already have an excommunicated Belmont Family living in Transylvania and the events of Castlevania Legends Happens. By the end of the game the fact that The Church didn’t have an iron grip over Romania allows the plausible idea that once she gave birth to a child Sonia Belmont would be able to skirt around the traditional law of the land because of the following reasons. 1. She was the only member of her noble family meaning there was nobody to pressure her into marriage 2. The church had limited pull during 15th century Romani therefore they couldn’t do much to her either 3. This also explains why she wouldn’t have gotten married, no church would take an unwed noble single woman, and so she retained her last name It seems the perfect conditions for Sonia to raise Trevor Belmont but it also explains a few other quirks about the Castlevania family tree. For example there are so few branch families especially among early Belmont’s. The Death of Sonia’s family and the fact she had only one child would then make sense that there wouldn’t just be dozens of branch families running around. Therefore by the time we get to Castlevania 3 we have the following conditions met: 1. a lack of an extended family be it direct relatives or branched off relatives 2. The family excommunicated, there is enough evidence to support the idea that even in Sonia’s time the family was already isolated from society 3. The lack of a present father. The evidence suggests it would be basically impossible for Sonia to have a normal marriage. Not impossible but improbable. In Conclusion: Your video claimed there was no way Sonia Belmont could ever have a place in the Castlevania Timelime. But at least from what I’ve found, the evidence I’ve presented I think it would be much fairer to say that while difficult it is plausible that the game can coexist with the other games. But anyway that’s been my TedTalk. I’m interested to know if you agree or disagree or if I missed some piece of lore or evidence.
@SindraVaniaProjects3 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from with your argument and you're right in some regards, but I still think her (and Legends) being able to fit in the current canon as-is is unlikely. The surname thing is still an issue. To keep her surname and pass it along, she'd either had to have gotten knocked up out of wedlock and the father wasn't involved enough for the kid to legitimately be able to take his surname, or (and even more unlikely) she found the 1 dude in all of eastern Europe in the 15th century who would have been okay with her keeping her surname and also passing it along to their kid. This is completely separate of any church involvement. Now, neither are completely 100% out of the realm of possibility, but they are unlikely. And, as future Castlevania games state, having the full power of the Vampire Killer whip is determined by keeping that Belmont name. I know this is splitting hairs at this point but since we're debating, it's worth bringing up. There's also the whole situation with Legends happening just over a quarter century before Dracula's Curse, and the whole question of how Dracula resurrected between the games if we're keeping it in the canon. I honestly would love to have Sonia re-written so she could be in the canon, as to be a Belmont between Leon and Trevor, who did encounter Dracula (or even when he was still going by Mathias) but never got a chance to defeat him. She could be a huge source of knowledge for the family later down the line in their future encounters with him. Also, you mentioning branch families; Order of Ecclesia brings this up in the fact that all the villagers you encounter in Wygol village are distant non-combatant Belmont relatives, meaning there are several branch families in the timeline and we just don't know about them because they've never been called into combat and we have no idea how far removed from the main branch they are.
