The whole red light thing actually has a tactical aspect as well as for horses and livestock. Red light has the lowest wavelengths of light and it is very difficult to see with the naked eye, that’s why all military personnel carry red lights for flashlights while on deployment, and which is ALSO why night vision goggles usually depict green or blue into your eyes because those project the highest wavelengths of light that use ambient light. (I am a U.S. Marine that has had the misfortune of hearing this lesson thousands of times so now you can hear it too)

I'm from Tennessee and I've lived in the woods my entire life. I am terrified of the woods at night. So whenever I get in trouble my mom makes me go outside with no flashlight for a few minutes at night. One time a coyote ran out in front of me when I was walking towards my house. @@M.Campbell-Sherwood Most certainly not the Ghillie Du in Tennessee. 😁 Anyway poor Black Ghillie is a solitary lonesome fairy man who loves children and the broken hearted, why would you say this creature is he?!! Shock & horror , I hope he doesn't hear ye say so! 😁 If you read my previous comment it explains that this is obviously a story about a trickster demon , a mimic... the native Americans call them Skinwalker , but every culture has its own legends of such entities. Anansi & Loki being the mostly widely written about in legends. We Irish have the Pooka, but while the Faeries and other little folk are mischievous and sometimes dark and tormenting , they are not devourers of flesh or animal mutilaters. This is a Skinwalker tale because the Shinwalker is a trickster demon that appears in many guises, it mimics human & animal sounds & shapes, uses light and illusion to torment before it destroys.
