Thank you---what a treasure and a pleasure! I've heard performances of this piece quite a number of times over the years, but here there's absolutely no comparison: this performance is unquestionably the best. They truly don't play 'em like they used to. It's an awful shame.

I first heard Bernstein conduct this at the Met's Centennial Gala when it was on PBS back in 1983. Going back and listening to previous recordings reveals just how simpatico he was with the overture and this is a dandy performance. Thanks to Mister Marchant for preserving it and to you for reviving it and giving it a dusting off!

Absolutely RIVETING performance of Leonore no. 3. The propulsion and the excitement are so comelling. This is a reading infused with great passion and a certain sincerity that I don't often hear in the concert hall in these times. Very moving - many many thanks for sharing this.

I'm so glad you like it! What do you think of Bernstein's Beethoven's 8th I posted a couple of days after this one?

Stanley Drucker was already in the clarinet section by then!

We saw Stanley play Mozart's Clarinet Concerto on March 2, 2001 with Sir Colin Davis conducting the NYPO. Stylish, elegant playing from a tremendous soloist.

Toda la vitalidad bethoveniana está en esta obertura y que mejor que uno de los más brillantes directores como lo es Bernstein
