I console myself by thinking of the ones that survive, and the fantastic new ones that have opened :) But I do miss the Cornhill Vaults and City Vaults on Alfred Street :(

Good lord, a whole generation of pubs gone forever and I have been to many in my time, and thats before and after the football ⚽️ 🤣😅 time machine at the ready for a journey back in time ⏲️ that's what I say. Wonderful Wonderful 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧💎❤️ i think there was also a pub called the roaring meg at the top of outer circle drive and the famous bowling green on Wragby Road of course. I could just drink a nice pint of 🍺 beer now. 👍😎👍 nov twenty three 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Thanks again for the kind words. I miss some lost pubs really badly, The Cornhill Vaults and City Vaults in particular, but lots of nice new ones have opened too. I remember the Roaring Meg, big football pub, not seen any old photos of it though :(

It was very popular in it's day, but it is one of many that I can't ever remember going in?

The Lord Tennyson, undergoing demolition, is a particularly sad site, as it was on my stomping ground, along with The Wagon & Horses & The Bull & Chain. It was always referred to simply as The George.

Yes, some people lament the closing and demolition of old churches, but I miss some of those old pubs a lot more, also the long gone old breweries that supplied them :(

@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 pubs, churches, cottages, little old shops, quiet sleepy villages, slow paced market towns. Most of the things that we build today feel unwelcoming, as if they are designed (they probably are) to stop us feeling a sense of home. That's why we still flock to places like cotswold villages, or the hogwarts express, or buy jigsaw puzzles of nostalgic scenes. We know that we lost something lovely along the way.

@@shireboundscribbles On the face of it I agree, but then I remember that older people have probably been saying this since we lived in caves. For all sorts of reasons we all hark back to "the good old days" to some extent. But generally the only thing that was better in the past was ourselves. We were fitter, healthier and generally having more fun, which I think also explains why older people have always tended to complain about "young people today", because they remind us of what we've lost :(

@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 Thank you so much! I am of a vintage to remember many of those drinking haunts, from my RAF days in 1969 and now finally returning. Pubs are a vibrant part of most communities, where working folk could meet up socially, share their woes or joys and keep connected through generations. With the advance of modern technologies, home entertainment and social media etc, the number of customers declined and if no visitors to spend money then they had to close. Many have diversified into pub restaurants and hosting events, accommodation and good luck to them. Its where you met your future wife! Liam

@@detectoruser Agreed. I'd add drink driving laws that started the decline of pubs, also the greed of some breweries and pub chains. There are a few pubs that I miss a lot, but it is nice to see some great new ones too. Not sure if you can call The Cardinal's Hat "new", but it is my favourite Lincoln pub these days :)

Although I've lost a fair part of my family tree after DNA results have revealed a few wrong turns and secrets and many of these are no longer part of my family history a good few still are. I find these a fascinating collection as they show the Lincoln my ancestors were part of and possibly some of them are amongst the faces we can see. It's not just the pubs but the street scenes that show the different aspects of Lincoln that I always find fascinating.

It would be fascinating to have some sort of facial recognition software for our ancestors :)
