I also added one scene in tje beginning. A small Tavern outside of Neverwinter, where they meet Gundrin. There he makes the deal with the party, buys them some drinks for some RP anf leaves before nightfall, telling them, tje mining goods would arrive at sunrise. So a) they know the guy they search for and b) have a good way of knowing about wave eco cave :)

Overall an amazing rework, however, its not really right to compare a Module to "Critical Role" a Play group. Every group works a little different and working under that pretense will lead to a homogeneous view of all players/groups.

This video is nearing 2 years old but I would still love to see the rest of the series. I thought this was an amazing rework and I am still wondering what you do with the rest of the module.

I can't wait for this entire series to be out, and the companion documents available! I'm planning to run this adventure soon for a new group, and these improvements seem absolutely stunning. Bravo! You've got a new sub for sure.

2:52 The coin part is deabatable but to have a group of “exceptional” people arrive at a podunk town all at once for backstory purposes or otherwise is not poor storytelling or at the very least doesn’t have to be. I mean someone who’s just passing through could also be willing to help those in need, or need money in order to buy some food and shelter. Someone who’s tracking someone could have a lead hidden in this town. The town itself could be special or have secrets. One of the party members could be from the town and just be returning home to say hello to his family. Coincidence is not inherently poor storytelling, especially given that coincidences can happen in real life. This also ignores the idea of suspension of disbelief when it comes to fantasy.

I had all my players find out about the same quest and arrive in the village on the same day as an introduction to the campaign. One of them immediately started questioning whether or not this was some kind of trap, which is actually a great hook

My point is, it's possible to have an opportunistic NPC take advantage of such a gathering

These are some great ideas. I’m solo playing this adventure and I”m finding character motivation to complete the full story a bit of an issue. By the way the original position of the Klarg and Yeemik fights is the reverse of what you depict.

I will forever tell people who want to get into dnd after watching critical role this. D&D is very analog. Alot can go amazingly well, or horribly wrong. With scheduling, to bad players/DM, or just mismanaging what you have. But if you lower your expectations to just having a good time, then youll have a blast.

I am a rookie Dm. Luckily my party is also mostly rookies. I started them on lost mines to learn and wrote it into a combo of homebrew story arcs and precons depending on their choices. As a new dm though I love this break down. How much do you charge, and do you do one shots? I would love to learn more and gain more experience as a player. Mostly to run less common styles and subclasses. Like bladesinger or, like a player I am concerned about in my campaign, a tabaxi shadow monk (who already took mage hunter, and will multi in warlock). I see where it is going now, but I wasn't planning on a first time player going in that hard. I also fucked up in approving the character being small. He can literally hide in the shadow of another character leg, then teleport, then attack, then have up to 120ft of movement.... Well 120 later but I'm sure you understand my dilemma.
@robertcollins20522 жыл бұрын
This dude did his research and after approving everything I see now where he is going. They are now lvl 4. Started at one. He is about to be soooooo insane compared to the rest of the party. Everyone else is pretty basic. Fun game so far, but when he hits 5/6 and multi classes to get devil sight....

Hey I'm a brand new DM looking to run LMoP and I've seen a ton of videos on youtube about changes to make to it. Yours is by far the best IMO where you change fairly little but add so much. E.g. I was really wondering how to run it if they killed Klarg before Yeemik but never thought of just fudging it the way you do (though I'm still not sure what'd happen if they climb the chimney and find Yeemik first, but then decide to back out and end up heading to Klarg first haha). Thanks so much for this and really looking forward to part 2.
@endeav0r_493 жыл бұрын
You can have them overhear the goblins discussing in broken common that the orders from Klarg are for Yeemik to execute this prisoner since it's no longer useful. Just find a way to put urgency to them and to make Yeemik a priority

Thank you for an informative video. I’ve run the campaign once and it definitely has room for improvement. These are good advice and I would try some of them if I ever run it again. One thing is that I found the difficulty of the cave too much for the players and would rather nerf Klarg than buff him. At least with 4 player characters. But maybe you let your players start on lvl 2?
@D-A-K3 жыл бұрын
Stray thought: do you think the High Elf introduction in LOTRO could be taken and tweaked to explain how a character who is epic (as you describe at about 2:18) has such a low level?
@Flarilein2 жыл бұрын
This is really great. I will be running the campaign soon with new players and a new GM. What do you think about restricting players in their character creation in terms of races and classes for this campaign? Because, as someone who's played DnD before, wanted to do a Ranger, but the campaign suggests only 4 basic classes.

I'm sorry but no, new players coming from watching Critical Role and being disappointed by Lost Mine of Phandelver is no fault of the module. It's the fault of Critical Role and their stupidly large grasp filling people's heads with the completely wrong idea of what this hobby is and what it should be. You're completely misunderstanding the module. Its hook has always been about reclaiming the famed Wave Echo Cave so it's honestly hilarious that you're sat there going "We need to fix the initial plot hook...By doing absolutely nothing to it". I really don't think you thought this idea through as much as you think you have.

Step 1 - tell the players that unless they bring proffessional voice acting and roleplaying, they will be sorely disappointed if the game isn't going to be CriticalRole. Step 2 - you are a farmer with a sword, not a hero. Step 3 - ????? Step 4 - Profit!!!
