I think catra kinda knows she shouldn't be with the horde, but she also feels she won't be accepted by the rebellion, so she stayed. She's becoming Adora's antagonist, but I think she will become like a dark princess (kill hordak control the horde herself, etc,etc) and then she will get a kick as She-Ra power up of her own.

The "Shadow Weaver hates Catra because of her family" angle really would explain her rather ridiculous mistreatment of Catra when she should have been trying to make both her and Adora as loyal to her as possible. If Catra actually has biological family outside the Horde, I can't imagine their reunion will not go well once they learn what she did in season one.

Shadow Weaver is cleary odssesed with teaching potentialy powerfull people, (she used to fo it in Brightmoon too) she saw the power Adora possed as Shera, but Catra never had any powers, so Shadow Weaver only saw her as expendable and a burden who might get in Adora’s way to sucess. But obviously Catra proved her capacities by defeating Adora/Shera multiple times cause she’s awsome. Its even kinda hyronic how Adora was the one who betrayed the Hoard and was the “burden” after all those years. Shadow Weaver is familiar witch switching sides and betrayal since she dit it twice lol

Catra is as much the main character of this show as Adora, so it for me wouldn't seem too far fetched if she'd be part of such a huge plot point as well. However, I would feel conflicted about tossing around that princess title in a too inflationary manner. It'd almost be like "hey, everybody is a princess now". I would much rather see Catra become more powerful all on her own, maybe even overthrow Hordak at some point. Her role is, after all, the direct opposite of Adora's.

She's risen to greatness without Princess power, but that could be a factor in her fully realising her worth if she is a princess as well. She'd see how far she came without magic and realise she's fucking awesome. PLUS With Catra as a princess we'd see a princess, and a powerful one, who doesn't NEED a runestone to be powerful. And that's something we don't have much of in the series since Scorpia and Entrapta are the only ones without and as cool as Scorpia is, I'm not sure how she's ranked Force Captain beyond her strength and tail - something which doesn't seem good enough for the rank that appears to favour ambition and cleverness over physical strength. it would also place Catra and Adora on more levelled ground which could facilitate a better rivalry and battle or a way for the two to become friends again. The story would benefit from SheRa having an equal - counter or otherwise - and no one would equal Adora as well as Catra could.

I think part of the appeal of Catra as a character is that she's not preordained to be special like Adora, so when she's given the opportunity to gain power, she forms her identity around achieving things through her own sweat and grit and lords that over She-Ra. Giving her a lineage to inherit might undermine that. (When you think about it, it's kind of a gender-swapped Lex Luthor/Superman dynamic with a lot of romantic subtext.)

yeah, and well, Catra is as stuborn as they get, and she lived her entire life under Adora's shadow even if Adora loved her and was good to her, so i kinda get that she will take things to the limit before, maybe, forgiving and leting go of her hate. So she does what ya said, she wants to prove herself to be better than Adora because no one ever saw her as something more than trash and she will gain power on her own merits.

​@@barbarar2216 Yeah, the problem with her reasoning is that she assumes that she can gain more freedom by climbing the ladder that Hordak laid out for her in the first place, as if he hasn't structured his dictatorship in a way that undermines the agency of his underlings. I know this is getting into headcanon territory, but I think there's a reason why Shadow Weaver became as haggard as she was. I mean, is it really hard to imagine that she didn't look like that before she became Second-in-Command? We know she longed to be free from Hordak's dominion, so maybe the reason why she obsessed over Adora so much is because she saw her as a symbol for her dead aspirations, and since Catra has now inherited the same position, maybe the revelation of how hopeless the position actually is will challenge our favorite disaster-gay kitty in ways she can't simply shrug off.

Your observation reminds me of an episode from the original 'She-Ra'. 'Magicats', written by J. Michael Straczynski, it's about an underground civilization of cats who's queen was captured by The Horde, and they mistake Catra for said missing queen. She uses this opportunity to take seize control of the throne, take down She-Ra, and upstage The Horde by lying to them. It's possible that for the new series, Catra could be a missing 'princess' of a cat like civilization, and probably doesn't know it yet.

I think Catra may be part of a royal family due to cats often having a litter of kittens so it might be dificult for the hologram to show all the princesses since it only goes to the ones that are known like for the princess prom, all princess' that are know go even new ones like She-Ra or ones without a stone like Entrapta. Glitter is a princess that draws power from a rune stone as does her mother showing they have a connection to the "grid" of rune stones. Catra may be able to draw power from the stones as well as the princess of the cat people as when she was a child she caused the rune held by the Horde but anyone else didn't really get a reaction, plus she did have powers in the 80's cartoon so she might unlock them like Adora will furthering their rivalry and relationship.

OK.. well this is gonna show my age but screw it.. In the original show the character catra had a feline form.. she got that from the mask she wore. She eventually ran into a race of cat people called "Magic cats". Their queen had been held prisoner by the horde and catra got the mask from her.. The mask doesnt play any part in this other than decoration but I believe that this version of catra has some kind of connection to this versions race of magic cats. Perhaps a missing or snatched princess like adora.. or a converted people like Scorpia.. I HOPE this will come out in the next season.. btw when the hell does the next season of the new shera come out? they cough up voltron twice a year or more so when do we get this?

ngl it does bug me so much now that the show is over there is no explanation for the princesses siloettes that light hope showed us because it left a lot of lose ends. If there were princesses there that didn't appear in the actual show why are they also never talked about? why did no one point this out and do they rule their own kingdoms as well? Why weren't they recuited for the princess alliance? what about the purple runestone shard that bow's dads had too, who did that belong to and could they still connect with their runestone when its in peices. And if any of these characters couldn't connect because of these details it breaks the entire plot of scorpia being the only princess without a connection. I really wish they had explained that better.

i think that catra might be a princess, but i don’t think she has a rune stone at all. having cat powers wouldn’t make her an elemental princess. entrapta said that her powers were fine when they rigged the black garnet because she’s not an elemental princess. we haven’t really seen too many non-royal human cross-species characters. there’s that crocodile guy and catra (and whatever hordac is) but that’s about it. i think catra might’ve been kidnapped from her kingdom as a baby/toddler due to whatever powers she was observed having.

I think her having a redemption arc is almost a requirement to show that being abused won't put her on the path of becoming evil. Especially in a kid's show. It's more important of a lesson to show her overcoming her abuse and becoming a better person even if she ends up with stumps on the road.

Disney Recess (Spinellie and Gretchen), Spongebob (Sandy is one of my faves), Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers (Trixi was a brilliant and fun character), Powerpuff Girls and Daria just to name a few examples. Also all the Anime who also had many powerful leads who saved the world. Sailor Moon being the most famous example.

I have a theory... what if Catra was a descendant of the fire princess? Because the cat like figure was also in orange, similar to fire. Plus, the element does connect to Catra's destructive nature-- and the legend says 'The Fire Princess' destroyed the runestone with her greed and quest for power, distancing herself from all her friends, like Catra. Now most ppl would ask, 'why then is Catra present'. I believe that there were many more princesses on Etheria who once had runestones, but if those runestones were destroyed, they were no longer needed to connect to the "Heart of Etheria'. All those princesses shown by Light Hope were princesses who once had runestones, not just the 'Elemental Princesses' who's runetones are still intact and are online.

Comig from 2 years in the future, end of season 5, they’re canon, is beutiful, they kissed, but no one has sayed she’s a princess, but she does have a connecting to some kind of magical *feline*, frome an unknown planet, it’s a half written page. For those who have seen season 5, my theory is that she’s the princess from that planet, and that she’s a rencarnation frome exactly the same time as Adora, as she is alao a reencanation. Edit: Sorry but this is kinda long My theory is Catra was a lost cat princess but she has no/very weak powers or they are hidden deep within her. So Catra is the runt of the litter and one day when she was to young to remember Shadow weaver kidnapped her. Shadow weaver thought Catra would have awesome powers, but she didn't which explains why SW dislikes Catra and is so hard on her. And this also explains why Catra wasn't shown in the holograms because her older sister(s) (cats have litters with multiple offspring) have a stronger connection to the rune stone. I like this because Catra has worked for her position while Adora just had it handed to her in the form of a magic sword. Having Catra just become a uber powerful princess would undermine all the work she did to get where she is.

I believe catra's a princess, due to one of the scenes in the last episode of season one when the ranbow washed over catra and the light around her turned orange and unlike everything else that was instantly pushes away she remain standing a little longer. Also if she is a princess that would be pretty interesting because her struggle to seperate herself from Adora (since she seems to feel as if her existence is defined by Adora) would probably drive her down a path to evil even further? I know I’m a couple years late, but I had a thought. I haven’t read the She-Ra comic books (I may plan to in the future), but maybe Catra is possibly the Fire Princess as seen on the wiki. I know it sounds wild, but it’s possible. Just look at her outfit. Yes it may be red like Scorpia’s but it a lighter red, possibly signalling the light that fire gives off. Yes, yes, I know that the Fire Princess in the graphic novel is older than Catra. Or it may be possible that’s she’s a Princess from a Kingdom that we don’t see in the animated series. As it says on the wiki: “Skills; Catlike instincts, strength & agility, heightened balance & hearing, night vision, heightened sense of smell.” She could also be from another planet, possibly even Krytis, were Melog is from. As it’s stated from Melog through Catra, “Then the one who destroys came.” This is obviously Horde Prime just by the form they take. Maybe Krytis was just like Etheria. Maybe it had princesses and runestones and Catra was one of the princesses who was then sent to Etheria by what was left of her family hidden under ground centuries later. I don’t know for sure, but it’s a possibility.

Maybe instead of having a severed conection to the Rune Stone (like both Scorpia and Glimmer at the time we got shown the hologram) Catra never had a chance to forge one in the first place? This is more of a what-if but we don't acctually know how Princesses are choosen and clearly they in some way are because Entrapta is one even without a Rune Stone and despite Shadow Weaver being able to use the Black Garnet she is not one, and since both Glimmer and her mother show up despite using the same Rune Stone so clearly the hologram doesn't care if there's more people with the same stone. We haven't gotten a lot on the Rune Stones or how they work at all yet so I wouldn't be surprised if what Shadow Weaver was doing was simply taking and not being given power so I guess we'll have to wait for a season 2 to find out more..

I think she is, since she was very young in the series when she joined the horde, her biological parents couldve died earlier . She couldnt tap in back then, so im thinking, her runestone couldve got stolen by anything or anyone.

Soooo, in the original series, Catra is a member of the Horde who gains power from a mask that Hordak gives her. Said mask belonged to Queen of the Magicats (another race). This queen was captured by Hordak, allowing him to steal her magical mask. This mask has the power to transform the person using it into a panther, with magical powers. I think that the show runners of the 2018 series, to not further antagonise Catra, will direct the storyline into a course in which Catra is the daughter of the Magicats Queen, who got captured as well as her mother, and was raised in the Hordak, therefore not knowing she is a princess, but most importantly, not an orphan, and a victim of the Horde as well. I think this will trigger Catras feelings for revenge against Hordak, causing her to leave the Horde, and furthermore, collaborate with the rebellion to destroy Hordak, (not yet mending her differences with Adora - this will be a progressive issue in the story-) but on her way to do so. What do you guys think of this theory of mine? Please let me know.

Because of the new series I think she DOES have powers, talking to animals. I think her crown mask thing was her mother’s, and later on in her life in the hord she found it in Shawdow Weavers lab thing and she kept it, Shawdow Weaver probably killed her mother (which still fits in the theory about her not liking Catras mom), but Adora convinces Her to let Catra keep it. The episode before light hope was the one where Catra and Adora were stuck together, so the theory about the vacant spot for Catra, would be down, but sence light hope saw her and Catra still needed to get out, the thoery still makes sence. I figured this out and thought someone else has the same question as me. To the creator:I’ve commented about this so much thank you for talking about this!! My thought: Entrapta, despite being labelled a princess, lacks a runestone. We see a shard of one with Bows fathers.. could be hers, i'm not really sure, but it shows us that a runestone has been broken apart. What if, going with Catra being a "lost princess", her respective runestone was destroyed, long ago? Perhaps even by the first ones in their early days of coming to etheria to drain it of its magical resources. Maybe Catras stone was destroyed in process of building the heart of etheria?

I kinda doubt it. In the original show. There were magical cats . Infact that's how the original Catra got her power. She was given a helmet that the cat queen wore by Hordak.Its more likely they retool them to be more humanoid in the reboot.

I dont think Catra is a princess, but I do think she has history with magicats and their current princess and with the horde she will conquer their kingdom as a sort of revenge and hortak will award her with the magicats runestone which will guarantee her loyalty to the horde and 100% put her on the opposing side to Adora.

The idea is that the runestone just chooses someone to take their place which is how Catra *BECOMES* a princess. She is not part of some long royal line but she is a princess because she has what her people need to lead them through these uncertain times.

I know it's weird but I'm kind of glad that ‏none of this happened... That would have ruined her whole Redemption Arc. all catra's Redemption Arc is based on the fact did she was abused as a child by Shadow Weaver. how do Weaver always told her that she wasn't special or worth anything without Adora. When Catra finds out that Adora is a princess it brings up all of her insecurities. If she were to find out that she is also a princess much of Redemption Arc and story wouldn't have happened.... I do believe that it is true and she is indeed a princess but I don't think that she should find out she is one at the near future I would like to see her finding it out maybe in a future movie when she'll be older and more mature and will know how to deal with her trauma better. (Maby the movie will take place around that same day we saw Adora dreaming about...) I want a moovie so bad

While the idea of Catra being another lost princess would be an interesting twist, especially from the original, my thing is that it would have to be written right to keep it from being a cliche. Or, even if she is of royal heritage, could it be possible that her Kingdom and runestone are gone? The silhouette of the one princess may not be the same as species as Catra, only time will tell. But given the way the Horde responds to resistance, it could be plausible that Catra's home was destroyed. Even more plausible that it would relate to why Shadow Weaver abused Catra growing up. That said, the best place to look for more evidence is the mural in Castle Bright Moon. You can see many of the royals of Etheria depicted, so if there if a feline present, it would give more evidence to Catra's royal heritage.

Also, I'm sure someone else has mentioned this already, but further evidence to support that she's a princess is that when Shadoweaver tried to force the truth out of Catra with magic, it didn't work and in fact backfired on her. It's possible that because Shadoweaver's Magic is essentially stolen. Likely the princesses powers are designed in such a way that they aren't effective against each other, even less so in the case of the black garnet since Shadoweaver likely cannot use the energy to full effect. Although it did effect Glimmer, but that could also be because she has an active magical link to her runestone. Anyways, this is just conjecture and theory, but still fun.
