Hi Edna. Hope you're well? No problem at all 😊 = its nice to have a little wander down memory lane, sometimes isn't it. Yes, the Eastend was a very different place "not too many years ago." Aren't we glad that we grew up in era's "when I was a nicer safer place to live." 😊✌️

I remember the Greengate. As a child we would go on Sunday outings on the buses from Greengate garage. When we got back, the adults would go into the pub for a drink and us kids would sit outside with a bottle of coke and a bag of crisps.

That's a lovely memory to have shared! Appreciate that "as it adds life & interest to a post" I think 😊. I remember times like that "a more innocent age, in many regards." Its all housing now, where the Greengate bus garage used to be + no pubs in that bit now ✌️

How much better did these pubs look back in the day compared to what they are now, the streets looked clean with loads of space, now it looks like every space they could find was filled with a building etc..great video again luke. Great to compare..

Hi Wayne. Hope you're well mate? 100% agree with you, on that "they looked so much nicer + as you say = the streets looked cleaner." Yes, sadly London like many cities now "is massively overpopulated & its beginning to show." There are certain parts of the area that "I'm honestly too embarrassed to show." Things were never perfect = But, certainly weren't like this, when I was a kid & in the era that these photos were taken!! Thanks Wayne 😊 Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, its nice to have a bit of now & then, & see how things were ✌️

My dad Bobby was school pals with Joe Brown who's family owned & lived at the Sultan, they played there as boys! When I was a barrow boy at Lamb & Turner's green grocer's, East Ham in the early 80's, they had a guard dog called Sultan. He was an old German Shepherd dog. Why did you call him Sultan? Ron Turner said he was a pup from a litter & they got him from the Sultan's pub guard dog!!! 😊 East London was once a nice place to live...(but not anymore)!😢 It's all gone now...SX👌👍

Hi Steve. Ah rite, thanks fir sharing this memory mate, love stuff like that 👌 never got to drink in the Sultan, as it'd gone by the time I was about 14/15. Yeah, you're not bloody wrong there mate "hate what London has & is becoming." I'm just grateful I've not got kids "couldn't raise them here tbh." Shame really, as we remember a very different London, & "we're not talking all that long ago really" = frightening & sad, how quickly things can change ✌️

Hi Luke, great content!! The Earl of Derby still stands but closed at the corner of London Road and Chesterton Road, would be good if you could include the history to that also, thanks again for the history lesson.

@@markmclaughlan6313 Hi Mark. Cheers mate, appreciate that!! No problem at all = I'll put it on my list. Might be a little while though, as not too well at the moment. No problem at all, its a pleasure to share London's history, with like-minded people!

Enjoyed the video thanks. Another ex-pub in Plaistow is the Duke of Cumberland (now a small block of flats), was a great little pub... And depends if you count them as Plaistow, but the Army & Navy on New Barn St (also closed after a murder ... Vacant for many years, now currently being built into a big block of flats) and the Swan on Balaam st, which is now the new home of the old alec barber shop (which ive been going to for years and is great)....P.s. I live in on Plaistow still and its still lovely compared to a lot of the rest of London

Hi Dave. Ah glad you enjoyed the video, cheers mate 👍 I'm a Plaistowvian myself, & yeah you're right "its a lot better than some area's in Newham." I never got to drink in The Cumberland "my Dad has fond memories of it & The Gogg, in Custom House." Yeah, flats now "they're like a really stubborn leg ulcer = & are spreading everywhere now." Great Barber Alec's "was my regular, before my hair ran away to join the French foreign legion" 😉. We've still a good few of thr old places & faces around = & long may they last ay 🤞🍻✌️

Funny it was called the Sultan as it was probably demolished to build a home for loads of sultans 😂
