Just fyi: Sayid is not the first character on this show to have died by drowning and been resurrected later. In one of Mr. Eko's flashbacks, he was sent by the Catholic Church to investigate the case of a young woman who drowned and later woke up during her autopsy.

If you remember back to the first season, Locke had the board game backgammon, and showed two player pieces from, one light and one dark. Little references to that were throughout the series. It's one of the few consistent parts to the story that are in all of the seasons of the series. This is one of those shows that is best watched multiple times, then you start seeing the connections and story elements that aren't really noticed the first time seeing it. Plus, binge-watching really helps, so you can remember all the little details. One of the flaws of the show, is that with a normal TV format, you can't remember everything when the seasons are a year apart.

I'm currently watching two LOST reactions, this one and NEIL Talks, and the contrast between the styles is pretty incredible. He really enjoys dissecting each episode and connecting all of the dots as the mysteries of the island reveal themselves. The Mrs. on the other hand... just can't be bothered. lol This is the kind of show you just have to jump in feet first with, and she never did, which has resulted in this late-stage cynicism.

She barely remembers what even happened in the previous episode, let alone tried to connect dots to various mysteries we’ve seen throughout the show. I don’t know if this is cause they watch so many shows and movies every week in addition to LOST, or she’s heard that nothing will ever get explained and that the show has a terrible ending so she’s given up even trying to understand it at this point. I know the style of this channel is just for the mr to just set the camera rolling on the mrs and let her react without saying much himself to get the purest reaction, but I would have called an audible and tried to explain certain things or recap what has happened in previous episodes that is likely to be relevant in the current episode without spoiling it. But it’s probably too late for that at this point.
@DrunkAtheist

Also, you should watch Rob and Trin. He’s arguably even more into the show than what Neil was at the stage of the show he’s reacting to now (midway through season 3) though I feel like Neil cares way more about the mysteries and plot whereas Rob cares more about the characters. Watching both their channels in comparison to this one is quite the contrast. Not everyone can like LOST, I guess. I’m surprised they made it this far.

I feel like if this wasn't a reaction channel, Mrs. would've quitted watching this long ago. She wasn't that invested enough, didn't really appreciate little nuggets in this show, and wanted the real answer asap. That's too bad but it's okay though. I actually feel she doesn't have to watch if she doesn't want to! I too, stopped watching shows that didn't entertain me enough a lot of times before. But this is really the first time i watched this level of disinterest on Lost reactions. But i appreciate her honesty and i enjoyed her perceptive reactions throughout the show, even though i'm sorry that some big twists in the show was received with less excitement. I can relate to Mrs. Movies. The first time I watched the show I wanted to know, what was going on but I couldn’t really keep up (in season 5 and 6), since I watched it on my own with noone to talk to. My understanding of seasons 5 and 6 has grown with 2nd+ rewatch. I value honesty (a reference to your Until Dawn playthrough). And it is better to be honest about your feelings then hyping everything up because of being afraid of the viewers comments. I hope, the Mrs. finds something she can relate to and like about the final season. There are some great moments, even for people that are not as invested in the show in later seasons. (Thank you for sharing your reaction. LOST was my first TV show love and still is my favorite show of all time.)

As for the numbers, my theory was influenced by the reality of ghost numbers, those eerie numbers repeated and picked up on some obscure radio broadcast that just repeated numbers over and over. The guy in the hospital who Hurley heard repeating those numbers over and over again said he and his partner picked up those numbers being broadcast on some unknown signal while serving in the military. So the numbers were--for some reason--being sent out into the world secretly. Since it appeared that the numbers on Lost were assigned to specific people, having the numbers sent out into the world was kind of a way of connecting the island with those people throughout their lives, and maybe played a role in the choices they made (or the choices that were given to them) so that they would eventually all end up on the island together. They kept showing up in different forms mostly to symbolize how the numbers were always there in each of their lives in some fashion influencing them without them knowing.

The main problem with season 6 was that it was poorly structured. The reveals in this episode (Numbers, Jacob, Candidates, etc) were great. But they should have came in like episode 1 or 2. The Temple people should stop going back and forward and get to the point. Tell Jack that Sayid is claimed. Instead of this test/pill/trust me bro storyline. It's sad. All the while giving some cryptic assurance that it'll all be worth it in the end, "don't worry someone is in control and knows what they're doing", "it's all part of a plan", "have faith". @hansmahr8627
@hansmahr8627 2 жыл бұрын
I've never watched Lost Explained and I feel like I understand what's going on pretty well. The show answers most of the mysteries either explicitly or implicitly. Do I think that all of the answers are great? No, I would have preferred if they had left some of the mysteries completely unexplained. Questions are always more interesting than the answers. But I think they did a great job tying it all together. People blame the writers for not having everything planned out in the beginning but that's just not how network television works. This show was not planned by Lindelof and Abrams, they were brought in to fix what was originally just a show about a plane crash and its survivors. Lindelof came up with the idea to add a mystery/sci-fi element to it. They didn't know if they were going to get cancelled after a season when they started writing. They barely had any time, casting was done at the last minute. Then the show became a success and they started to plan a lot more in Season 2 (though they were always open to improvisation like when they were so impressed with Emerson's performance that they created Ben's character). But they were clashing with the network that wanted the show to go on indefinitely. It was during the first half of Season 3 that they finally got the OK to end the series after 6 seasons. At that point, they planned out the rest of the show. So it's a bit more complicated than 'they just made shit up'.

I think there are good arguments for both sides. They're the only married couple, so there are no other two characters with the same name to compare it to. You have a good point about Sun's maiden name. But if Jacob's touch was what confirmed someone as a candidate, then he touched Jin and Sun both after the wedding when they were both named Kwon. I tend to think it was Jin because Sun was a mother.
@kadiryumlu

@@johnwoo8502 I still think that each name represents a single person. Because writers tent to avoid same last names for related people: *Jack* (Shepperd) and *Claire* (Littleton), *Boone* (Carlyle) and *Shannon* (Rutherford), *Pierre* (Chang) and *Miles* (Straume) ...etc. And these people (above) all have their (last) names are written seperatly in cave and lighthouse. So when you decide to cancel someone's candidacy, you can easily cross his/her name. Also we have some other *married couples* like *Rose and Bernard* (Nadler). But their last name was not on the walls. There was another couple (season 3) named *Danny and Colleen* (Picket). And they have their last name on the walls. But they both died as you knew. By the way, it was discussed when this episode first aired on TV that camera angle is too bad to confirm if Jacob has actually touched Sun. But we can clearly see that he touched Jin 😉

Every candidate has a number. Why do the main characters have that 6 famous numbers? Maybe destiny. Kate's name is deleted for a reason, you will discover in the next episodes. I think 42 is for Sun nd Jin, both them, in fact Jacob touch both. For the number's meaning you have to check on internet, the show doesnt explain this. SPOILER concerning the meaning of the numbers: . . . . . . . . . Its hard to explain but, the numbers are the Valenzetti's equation. The numbers cause the world's distruction. The Dharma initiative try to save the world changing one of these numbers. I know, its complicated. I dont understand it either

The Valenzetti equation predicts the exact time of the extinction of the human race from Earth. The numbers are the factors in the equation. Like the OP stated, the purpose of the DHARMA initiative was to change at least on of these factors in order to give the human race a chance at survival. That was the purpose of the initial broadcast that Rousseau heard and replaced with her distress call (they were broadcasting the numbers so it could be known when they were successful at changing one). While this is all spelled out in The Lost Experience it’s cool that they actually included it in the show, albeit subtly. There is actually a reference to the Valenzetti Equation on the blast door map in the Swan Station. It’s definitely canon.

I’m on episode 11 of season 6 and honestly I’m worried about the show ending kinda bad. Compared to how great it was in 1-3 then season 5 had a lot of good thing going then season 6 just kinda feels flat and all over the place sometimes. I’m going to finish the show no matter what, but I am nervous about the treatment of some of my favorite characters

The writers had no intention of resolving all of their mysteries or making them coherent if they did try to solve them. The biggest mistake they made was feeling they had to have a gimmick(flash back/forward/sideways) EVERY season. Season 6 minus the flash sideways were OK. Not great but OK. Her reaction is similar to mine and many on the lost forum I used daily when the show was on the air. Even George Martin wanted to avoid having a LOST ending to ASOIAF. And considering he's likely to never finish that series, I guess he will. I feel like you really have to shut your critical mind off in order to appreciate the show for what it is. As the writers really didn't respect the intelligence of the viewers. Kind of like what happened with the last two seasons of Game of Thrones.

It's so weird that my perception is almost exactly opposite of yours. I feel like it's *because* I watched the show with a critical mind that I enjoyed it so much. All along there were little hints and nods to classical works of literature and influential 18th & 19th century scientists, philosophers and theologians. And all that comes into play in the metanarrative of the show, which I always thought was the writers showing respect for the intelligence of the viewers.

GoT completely ruins almost every single character in service of the rushed mess of a plot. Whereas with LOST, even if you hated the direction of the plot and answers to mysteries, pretty much all of the characters had satisfying logical arcs. I don’t know how anyone can watch an episode like Ab Aeterno or Happily Ever After or The End and think that anything in GoT’s final season even came anywhere close to that level of greatness. It’s truly baffling to me.

@@DrunkAtheist Who did Sayid love more? Nadia or Blondie? Why did the numbers curse Hurley? Why was it a good idea to spend half of the final season in purgatory? And was purgatory a good and logical ending for the show? What happened to science vs. faith(religion) on the show. They just abandoned science and went full faith. I'd put that and purgatory on par with the bad things the GoT writers did. The Leftovers was at least consistent with how it told the story. So the strong religious/mystical aspects were consistent. Lost just shoe horned them in to handwave answers and keep viewers guessing.

I see a lot of complaints about the Mrs.'s negative reaction. What is the point of a reaction video if you're only going to love, love, love everything? How entertaining is that? I've spent almost 20 years watching LOST, thinking about it and talking about it and reading about it online. I can take different view points. I think there are a couple of episodes coming up that she'll love, and I think she'll be fairly happy with the ending. If not -- I'm still into both of their reactions.

To be honest, if she was just souring on the show now and really hating the start of season 6 that would be fair enough. The start of season 6 is one of the weakest points of the show, but she’s literally the only reactor I’ve seen who looks like she hasn’t been into the show at any point and has always gave off the impression that she believes nothing will make sense or get answered. It’s frustrating to watch.

@@DrunkAtheist I agree, although it's not only that...it's the fact that she hasn't ever given it a chance. How can you be dismissive about it, when you spend the episodes making irrelevant comments which mean you can't hear/absorb what's going. She's missed so much (and can barely remember anything from week to week) because she hasn't ever given it a fair shot. Even if she does like some of the more emotional bits of this season, I'm sad to say that it will all be on a very shallow level. If she had watched it properly and still didn't like it, that would be a totally different matter.

I'm only at the end of "What Kate Does". To make the Mrs. Overthinking Mind a little calmer... Us LOST fan's referred to the alternate scenes in this final Season as "Flash Sideways" as opposed to all the Flash Backward scenes from Season's 1-3 and the Flash Forward scenes that started in Season 4. Oh gods and she goes back to the Purgatory thing again... I guess that's why Sawyer is growing on her... Oh and she's happy this is the last Season. Geeze...it's about the Characters, their Journey's and the Joy and Entertainment they gave us all back in the day. Lol...if you're looking for more former LOST character actors many of them appear in single episodes in the TV series Burn Notice.

Nobody come back from the dead. Characters think Sayid was dead but he wasn't. The healing water just takes more time to save him than before Jacob’s death. No outside signs of life doesn’t mean there is no a little part, a cell, which is still alive. It is not the first time that this sort of thing happens in the show. The daughter of Claire’s psychic was certified dead before she "came back to life". The psychic had an explanation for her false death : "She fell into a mountain river. Her body shut down. She went into hypothermia, which made her appear dead." And what about Charlie in S1E11, Kate thinks he is dead, Jack too during several seconds, but no. Because, apparent death is not death. An other broken promises ? 🙂
